No, well trained little puppets would just go long with anything set before them.
These students obviously went to college in order to think for themselves.
Having a lap dog like Pence or an uneducated person like DeVos give commencement addresses is ridiculous. Graduating students should not be subject to these political flunkies.

What the behavior represents is poor breeding. I recall my mother's comments about behavior and she said even if you do not like the person as they enter your home offer them a cup of coffee.
What these students have shown is their smallness, pettiness and the benefit derived from open nd honest communication.
Mike Pence is n honorable man and he would have welcomed their comments and concerns. They lost that opportunity and because they lost that opportunit we all lost

Sandy - It appears it has been a while since you have been on a campus...I have spent the last 7 years visiting 2 different campuses, in 2 different regions, for the parent events and have heard first hand of the environment on campus...
The colleges are liberal heavens, the professors are attempting to brainwash the students at every chance they get in class. If the student displays agreement with the ideas presented, all is good. If the student disagrees or challenges the ideas presented, they are warned to not be disruptive. The kids are paying for the class, the teacher is spending more time brainwashing than educating, if they complain about the lack of focus on studies they are silenced. Think about the abuse of power!
The majority of millennials are not motivated enough to think for themselves. Most of the male millennials have their mother doing everything for them, or they are getting an allowance so they can pay people to do everything for them. Most of the female millennials are too busy posting selfies and / or attending social events (where they can be seen) to think for themselves.
"Lap dog" and "uneducated", are you sure?? Did you consider Joe Biden a lap dog? No, he was part of an administration and he had the same goals as Obamma (Pence is part of an administration)...Do you think DeVos is "uneducated" because she attended Calvin College? Did she need to play basketball at the University of Chicago to be considered "educated"?
"Political Flunkies"? Vice President and Secretary of Education are fairly high political achievements. Did you have an issue with Obamma and his administration giving commencement speeches?? It seems you are unable to look past their party affiliation to give them the credit they have earned...the liberal armies on campus booed someone because their political beliefs are not the same as their professors and it brought them media ATTENTION.
You are just another "Negative Nancy" on here. Nothing positive to say, just bitch whine bitch.

Dirtbanker, you are wrong, as usual. Betsy DeVos is totally unqualified for Sec of Education. She got that because of political donations.
The professors you are bashing are the offspring of our generation. Didn't you teach them right? I went to college to learn to think for myself. The kids in college think for themselves and get challenged by professors. That is good.
Negative Nancy? I don't think so. Combat disabled Vietnam vet. Progressive thinking also.

I am an unapologetic liberal. This kind of post does not help our side although I understand where the motivation to says these things comes from. And if enough Trump administration representatives get booed and walked out on, then perhaps college administrators will stop inviting such persons to give commencement speeches.
Those decrying the actions of the students are failing to understand what the graduation ceremony represents. It is a celebration of the students' accomplishment. The speaker is there to add to the celebration, not detract from it. He, or she, is a guest of the institution but should be someone who is a pleasant addition. The graduation ceremony is not a learning experience. It is not to get another view of our culture or our politics. It is for fun. And being forced to listen to someone who represents the policies of the Trump administration is the opposite of celebratory for most young people and most college educated people.

That's how "government" works..."government" is a facade the wealthy/powerful set up to benefit themselves and the corporations they run. Many...all?...high level positions in government are either bought or assigned...depending on their importance to "the system". High ups in government become high ups in business and vice versa. Sandy - I have thanked you for your service a few times already, but THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE! I truly appreciate it!!
I am not wrong. You are bashing someone who is accomplished, only due to her political leanings. She is educated, but you are saying her education is not good enough for you. Do you believe basketball star Arnie got the position due to his performance running the failed Chicago school system??
I am not bashing professors, I am telling you what is happening on campus today, not 1960. The professors are not challenging students, they are ruling and silencing students that due not agree with their political message. You are out of touch with the college environment and I did not educate the professors of today, I am not a liberal.
Ever wonder why an applicant is required to fill out a FAFSA, even if they are not looking for financial assistance...Don't question the demographics cited on the college websites...College is boot camp for the liberal army.
I challenge you to present one positive post you have made on this forum.

Bravo! Well what a nice way to get around to saying simply that " students have a right to say they support speech repression or "shut up" to the ideas of others.
I thought the purpose of a college education is to send students into the world with minds open and questioning, not closed and self righteous? I would believe that the objective would include speakers with varying points of view on the world.
Essentially what students are doing to people like Mike Pence, Ann Coulter, Donald Trump, Heather Mac Donald is what experts term "linguistic constructivism, which holds that we don't merely describe or represent the world in language , language creates the world and ourselves ( i.e. I identify as)...if reality is nothing more than a mere narrative then we can control what people say or are forbidden to say.
Speech repression comes in many forms such as trigger warnings, microagressions, claims of cultural appropriations, claims of non-binary sex ,safe spaces Gosh with lingusitic constructivism , specious claims can be endless.:D

To go along with that is the "Manufactured Consent". Where they keep pushing something we don't like and making it seem like everyone likes it to convince us that we like it too or are at least OK with it.
chomsky manufacturing consent - Google Search (https://www.google.com/search?q=chomsky+manufacturing+consent&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8)
It's what they did with homosexuality. What they do with racial equality. They keep pushing a lie until we believe it.

Several moons ago I was a college student at a well known Midwest
Big Ten University. I had a few so called conservative professors and more so called liberal professors. Nothing much has changed. By both, I learned to think for myself. I found too far left or two far right didn't make sense to me. You can be a Democrat and be conservative about certain issues and you can be Republican and be liberal about certain issues. A stupid uneducated person is one who only looks at issues with tunnel vision. Lots of those types around.

He doesn't realize that when Hispanics are having the majority of the babies...and that Hispanics are already the majority below the age of 7...that within 30 years...America will be Mexico II. Exactly. You speak to the problem. Once the politicians fit nicely into a bell curve. We had blue dog democrats liberal republicans but they all had one thing in common they were more patriotic and overall had sight of the bigger picture.
In today's political world the Democratic Party is dominated by fascist progressives whose only agenda is total federal/state government control
these fascist progressive are succeeding because they control the public unions and our educational institution from Kindergarten to post grad work. Just look at the public unions platform and look at the curriculum in schools, colleges and universities across the country.

FALSE reality? You are living in the false, delusional "reality" thinking everything will be fine. It won't. Name me ONE successful place that has gone from a white majority to a black/brown majority. It's already 50:50 white to minority. Hispanics ALREADY are the majority of babies being born and children starting school. It's just a matter of time...within 30 years they ARE the majority.

Because control and quotas is the ONLY way the inferior women and minorities CAN "succeed". Without quotas, they're left out in the cold...UNABLE to compete on an EVEN playing field. Disagree? Remove ALL affirmative action and quotas...see what happens.

I applaud those students for walking out on pence. He is NOT an honorable man at all. Small and petty? Hardly. THEY DID NOT INVITE HIM TO THEIR GRADUATION! Why should they be subjected to him? Do you really believe he wanted to hear what they had to say? Did he invite those students after the fact for dialogue?
Those students were making their voices heard by peacefully walking out on a man they have no respect for. Respect is something that is earned. pence has not earned the respect due the Office of Vice President. They were exercising their First Amendment rights. It is still America and we still have laws in place, despite what Comrade trump would like.

Guest - is your name David Duke or donald trump? In either case, your post reveals you to be a racist pig.
You definitely nailed our resident Racist Boy (Don Baldwin). :coolsmiley:
BTW - A quick way to identify these people is to hit the 'quote' button in any post, scroll way down...and the last 10 or so posts will have their user name next to their post.
You'll soon get to the point, where you could almost make the posts for some of these simpletons...before they even post. :D

Personal Best Regards:
The students have heard the words of pence, coulter and trump before. They don't like what those people have to say. They should not be subjected to them at THEIR GRADUATION.
The students also have something to say and have clearly demonstrated that by walking out on the devos, pence, trump, coulter, etc. It is their First Amendment right.
It is clear that trump does not support the First Amendment. He makes it quite evident every time he pouts and calls the news "fake" because he does not like what has been reported about him.

It's about to get a whole lot worse for Trump, as a breaking story has Trump trying to get a couple of his Intel Chiefs...to publicly dispute FBI probe on Russia. :22yikes:
Does this idiot Trump really believe, that he can bully and threaten people in government...like he was notorious for doing in private business?
More importantly, why are so many of his cultists...deaf & dumb to his sociopathic behavior? :ohdear:
Chump's resignation (as many predict)...seems to be getting closer.

If even half these reports are true, he has a problem. These are factual reports, most uncontested by him or the White House that do not show he was in collusion with Russia, but certainly shows his fear of allowing this to continue.
And we do not know what else the investigators have in addition.
I get a kick out of folks blaming the media for always reporting negative articles on him. What the hell else is there ? How do you blame the media when NOTHING has been disproved.

Yep. :ohdear:
And the only defense so far, is trying to blame those who leaked...for Trump's own actions.
I mean really, how desperate, pathetic and stupid is that?
My favorite quote, that still sums it up best is... "The house is on fire, Trump is running around with a box of matches, and the GOP demands to know who called the fire department." :D

I attended my nephew's college graduation yesterday and was pleasantly surprised by the commencement speech given by CNN host, Dr. Fareed Zakaria. I was bracing myself for the usual liberal talking points and anti-Trump rhetoric, but instead thoroughly enjoyed his speech as he attempted to bring both sides together. He denounced the protests and walk-outs on other campuses as being just the opposite of how he hoped that students would react when confronted with someone with an opposing viewpoint. Instead, he encouraged the graduates to listen to those viewpoints with respect and an expectancy of learning something by listening to those who think differently. I found myself, instead of looking for the closest exit, actually glued to my seat. By the crowd response, I would say it was a very well received speech.

Looks like a bright man. Graduations though look like the wrong place to bring a real controversial speaker into talk about some subject. It is supposed to be a celebration of these students' achievements and not about some institution making points with some politician.

I agree. However, this has been going on for some time now. My son graduated college in 2009 and the keynote speakers were Chris Mathews and Cornel West.........talk about controversial. We were not able to make it to his graduation due to a death in the family. I think it was God's way of saving me from having to sit through that.Ugh!

Have any of you defending the walkout of the students even bothered to LISTEN to his speech? It and many, many others are all on YouTube. I suggest you listen particularly to those of Presidents Reagan (ND 1981) and Obama (ND 2009) (Howard U 2016), as well. You might be surprised.
They claim it was a part of free speech for them to do this. What happened to his right to free speech? Do they get sole rights to freedom of speech along with their diplomas? I thought the Constitution granted that right to all Americans, not just ND graduates. They also said they were "standing up for their moral and ethical standards". Why is he then trashed, yes trashed and disrespected, because he stands up for his moral and ethical standards? Is this all not the perfect definition and example of "double standard"?
There is NO excuse for disrespect and rudeness. I don't always agree with what our preachers say, but I certainly do not get up and walk out during their sermon. I don't agree with what former President Obama had to say much of the time, but I would never just get up and walk out on his speech because of it. I certainly wouldn't PLAN a mass walkout without even bothering to hear what he had to say.
Whether they choose to acknowledge it or not, these students do not have all the answers. They are about to embark on their life's journey and will soon find that there will be many things with which they do not agree....especially out in the workforce. They will soon find that pretty much no one starts at the top just because they have an education from a prestigious university.

I relate to much of your post. Besides that, you will not like what I will say. Please do not belabor Obama, Clinton, etc.
What we needed in this last election, and if you believe the posts on here you would agree, but what we needed more than a message of ANTI everything, we needed a Uniter.
Until this administrations just tries, as promised to bring us together, and stops denegrating everything American, and asks for cooperation instead of accusing. If the administration would begin to tell the truth, instead of blatant lying.
If those things happen, this activity will decrease. Always will be ideological differences, but now the language from our leader is deceptive and hateful, UNLESS you agree in total.
You speak to this REACTION, but refuse to even acknowledge the reason for. The current administration simply blames others...media, court system, electoral system, intelligence community. How much anti everything American do you expect people to accept ?
There will be no improvement in this country until our current leader recognizes he is not always correct...until he recognizes we respect TRUTH not deception and that a good leader accept truth.

You can't argue with liberals...women...and minorities. Facts don't matter.
Most of those kids who walked out are going nowhere. The boys will live at home with a menial job or "disability", the girls may marry and go from living off mom and dad to living off her new husband. They expect a perfect world and want someone else to do it for them.
They should have just not attended...it's not like "you must be present to win". Want to make a statement to the school...refuse to attend...don't disrupt...that's rude.

My question would be "Who was in charge of inviting the commencement speakers"?
A VP like Pence would be fine IF he steered completely clear of political messages. Of course, that did not happen. His message should have been congratulations and wishing them well on the challenges to come.
Inviting Ann Coulter to Berkley was just as strange. An ultra conservative speaking at an ultra liberal university is not a good mix.
What would the seniors at Liberty Universitiy have done if their commencement speaker was Al Sharpton? No one would have attended the program.
Yes, students should think for themselves at college but administration workers at colleges have to think about reactions to speakers when inviting them.
Don is right when he says being rude is wrong.

Please tell me what "denegrating of everything American" he has done. Is is because he wants us to regain our standing in the world, not apologize for being American? As for the electoral college, he defends it; Obama and Clinton do not because they want only the votes from New York, California, Florida, etc. to count. No, the founding fathers knew what they were doing when they devised a system to include ALL voters, no matter Party affiliation. He has asked repeatedly for cooperation and instead gets the "cooperation" of the likes of Charles Schumer and Nancy Pelosi. To quote Pelosi, "No, we cannot pass that bill...it's a Republican bill, and we just can't do that. No." Cooperation? I think not. When his new healthcare bill was shot down, he didn't find a way to shove it down everyone's throat anyway. He just said that apparently there was more work to be done. He gave up the cushy life of an American millionaire to try and turn this country around and make us once again the #1 nation in the world.
You say don't start on Clinton or Obama, but you invite talk about them by your views on our current president. President Obama lied repeatedly and constantly placed blame on President Bush for everything under the sun. He was also the first one to talk about voter fraud. He NEVER accepted the truth regardless of being proven the truth, but stayed in constant denial. How many times did he not even bother to take things before Congress and how many times was he overturned by the Supreme Court for doing so? He gave up NOTHING to become President and walked away with millions he didn't have going in. He and so many other politicians on BOTH sides of the aisle have built up vast fortunes while trying to convince us that the ones at the top (not counting themselves, of course) should be ashamed and pay more and more.
All presidents have faults and flaws. Accept it. Instead of finding fault with everything the man does, why not look for the good? You don't have to look far. Look at the respect the other world leaders (not counting the idiot in charge of N. Korea) give him.
If you have ALL the answers, then I suggest YOU apply for the job next election.

Please, just do as I suggested and listen to the other politicians who have given or are still giving graduation speeches, then come back and tell us that none of them got political. Students have every right not to agree with the choices, but they are NOT in charge and the colleges have EVERY right to invite whatever speakers they choose. These students want to claim tolerance, but show absolutely none if that "tolerance" is not in step with their values or their wants and desires. Colleges are supposed to be where they are taught to have an open mind, but that apparently is not happening. If it were, then they would listen first and then challenge. They have every right challenge, but not just blindly be against what someone has to say simply because of WHO they are. They might actually learn something and have a real basis for their difference. It makes me wonder if they might actually change what they think and so they refuse to listen in order to save face.

.....PUBLICLY denigrated on an international stage ALL of the US intelligence agencies.
.....PUBLICLY accused the ex President of wire tapping
.....I did not say..electoral college...I said electoral system.
.....Has on more than one occasion demeaned PUBLICLY judges and the judicial system
.....Has openly and PUBLICLY lied from the Oval Office.
....PUBLICLY demeaned the FBI and their investigative skills.
This is a short list and are not in any way considered "faults and flaws". They are a SHORT list of INTENTIONAL LIES, not mistakes, not errors....intentional actions to deceive. From our White House.
Add to that short list, the results of our President's actions that will come to light relative to the investigations underway.
Again, not simply faults or flaws as you call them, but in less than 100 days our Presidents actions. Flaws and faults are the way he conducted himself with Merkel, or his sharing of intel with the Russian head of espionage, or shutting out America an Media while welcoming Russian state media because, in his words.."Putin asked me"
I will accept ideology differences, or errors. His actions are, I am afraid, the epitome of un American behavior.
Your equating ideological differences with the actions of Trump is very insulting.
