Propane tank disposal

I have an old 1lb propane tank from an old golf cart heater. I want to get rid of this, but think it is to dangerous to put in the recycling trash.

Does anyone have any ideas what to do with this tank safely.

see if someone you know has a torch tip,then you can run it empty,then toss it.
