My parents went to tire choice for a simple oil change.. but they said they had a nail in their tire, needed four new tires. Also both axel's need to be repaired at a cost of $800. My parents were smart enough to call me and we took the car to another repair place. They said the tires were fine and both axel's were in perfect shape. He also told us they paid double for the oil change they offer. He also said he gets many customers who have gone there and have had the same problem. So please get a second estimate before you do any repairs at Tire Choice

I used the old Goodyear store at 44 and 301 just outside of Paddock Square. Nail in tire repaired and balanced $18.00. Its an old store but very busy and they new what they were doing.

These guys should be reported to 9 news and get their franchise taken away! Not everyone reads Talk of the Villages so the word doesn't reach everyone.

YEP!

One, and only one, interaction with these crooks is all I've ever had...or ever will.

When they tried telling my wife that she needed a complete transmission overhaul (@27,000 miles) after asking only for an oil change...she called me.

They weren't happy when I arrived and told the guy that he should be behind bars...for the shady BS they were trying to pull. :rant-rave:

Sadly, I'm sure all too many elderly and not to mechanically inclined residents are being taken to the cleaners...every single day. :(

Are you sure they weren't trying to upsell her a transmission fluid change? (Not many places overhaul transmissions and your car is still under warranty). If in fact that was what happened and depending on the car, it might actually be called for as regular maintenance. Just saying ...

And no, I don't use them and have never used them. Many of these place use oil changes as a loss leader to get you in the door to upsell other services (which may or may not be needed). They may also not have the exact fluids needed for your car. You need to be familiar with the maintenance schedule for your car.

I have used AccuTech on 301 in Oxford for the things I don't care to do.

I've seen several threads about Colony Tire Choice and would suggest that someone(s) who have experienced their "customer service" first hand should contact / send these links to their corporate office. JMHO

Irritates the hxll out of me that these alleged scams from this outfit continue - been reading stories about this place on ToTV for a couple years.

Wish they still had that Hidden Camera segment on 'Dateline' or such to nab crooks like these. Perhaps someone will video them in the act and go to BBB or TV stations. Every time I pass by this place, can't help but think of an older couple or unknowing senior that may be scammed by them right now.

Hard to believe (if all these scams are actually true) that this place hasn't been charged and shut down.

grrrrr.

Their shop on 466 is no better. Around 5-6 years ago, I went in for an oil and filter change on a 3 year old Accord. I was asked to come into the service area, where they told me I needed $900 in services. The vehicle was 3 years old, and was maintained by dealer under warranty for those 3 years, and this was the first service out of warranty. Let them finish the oil change and left and haven't been back since. Traded it in a couple of weeks later.

My wife had a similar experience at that business while I was lol up north working. They follow the business model for many here in Villages, that is growth is so rapid when you lose a customer 2 new ones are in line to take their place. Although there are ethical businesses almost everything today is a hustle, true across country

I don't think it is many that follow their fraud practices.

Sorry but we've had nothing but great service from Tire Choice @ Colony Plaza. In fact the first time we went ther was to price new tires and get an estimate on a brake job that George Nahas said we needed. Their tires were less expensive and said the brakes were fine. In fact they lasted another 20,000 miles before we replaced them. I'm not a fool and don't take kindly to being played like one and can say these guys have been very professional with us! being replaced

Nope, that isn't what they told her.

They actually told her that they checked the transmission oil, that it had metal particles in it and that's why it needed a rebuild.

I then pulled the trannny dipstick myself, looked at it and asked the salesman to get a magnet and let's see.

He demurred and then said "we'll just write up an engine oil change at this time."

I pulled the manual and said , 'gee, it says here even under 'severe service' (which it definitely doesn't meet) it calls for the tranny to be serviced at 75,000 miles.

I have never owned, or even heard of, an automatic transmission calling for a tranny service (oil and filter) at less than even 50,000 miles.

THAT is when I told him he should be behind bars...and we left.

And yes, I am very mechanically proficient and could (and used to) do all of my own service, up to and including brake jobs, but at this stage of my life...choose to let others scrape their knuckles and dig grease out from under their fingernails while I play golf. :D

Several Threads on this Tire Choice and they all mention pressure to upsell you something to just plain fraud. The smart thing to do is just go somewhere else for your service. Other posts have mentioned a number of options. Some have mentioned reporting them but apparently it does little good.

Could have been worse, they might have added metal shavings to your fluid.

I am glad it worked out for you but I am pretty sure that place is not equipped to do anything other than fluid changes and that is probably what they were upselling. Your wife most likely misunderstood and they are counting on her not understanding the issues. Shame on them. I do a drain and fill at 30K miles (myself) = cheap insurance. Anything that can be done to get the word out is good.

Several past Threads about this business . Not a good reputation and some might say not " good neighbors " but excellent " predators " .
