When someone makes some cruel statement about "must have taken the short bus" in Korean no less and probably aimed at me https://www.talkofthevillages.com/forums/just-fun-109/big-korean-242481/; I take great offense as my mother was sick with the flu when I was born so I did "take the short bus" as this classless poster on the Political Forum alluded. https://www.talkofthevillages.com/forums/villages-florida-political-talk-88/big-my-korean-friends-242484/ I managed to get four degrees though after getting the help of Mrs. Barbara Mitchell at Earl Wooster High School in 1975-1976. She saw something in me and had me reading Anna Karenina by the end of my Junior Year in High School and where I took correspondence courses at a Second Reno, Nevada High School-- Reno High School. I wanted to get away with the often moronic behavior of teens which I am now finding again from what I suppose are grown men over 70. So I graduated from high school in three years time.
This has to stop these continuous personal attacks by posters on other posters.
Why allow this kind of harassment and cruelty???
There is politically correct and then there is that line of us going into the sewer.
I hope others will speak up against this kind of harassment even if it is usually confined to the Political Forum. We should not have to take this kind of online abuse from people who look like they have the maturity of a 12 year old.
Online harassment is also against the law in Florida.

It's possible our fault also. I'm experiencing something similar from one of the Political Forum people. We both know better. They are rough over there. Don't even think about putting in an honest though about anything. You be analyzed and toasted and have your thought spun around where you're fighting the other poster rather than speaking about the issue you started on. It's never going to change. I support you Tal, you stick to your beliefs even if they are different from mine.

There are posts that just go way too far. No one should have to put up with this kind of baiting. Moderated or not. Supposedly TOTV is for seniors. People who should know better than to go this low. I can take quite a lot of harsh words and insults but there are boundaries. Short bus type insults fit in with that. And this looks like a pattern of malicious attacks on me by this person whom I do not know at all except on TOTV.
I know that the Political Forum on TOTV has a reputation of being extremely nasty but it is up to us to change it. I have tried the Ignore List but when a thread starts with a reference to a post I made on the Just for Fun Thread I just had to look at this. I am deeply offended by this use of "rode on the short bus" in Korean phrase.

Which is why I will always take to task those who have constantly harassed you, oftentimes on a personal level that is beyond the pale.
I will point out also, that a lot of those who say they don't like the despicable attacks on you, but share the politics of those who attack you...most often stay mute.
I guess we're seeing the age of where politics...overrides human decency. :ohdear:
And while it should be noted that I have used no names, I'll bet that I will be attacked also...unless this thread is locked first. :ho:

If a tree falls in a forest and you are not there...
A number of posters have been subjected to the bete noire rumblings coming from the usual suspects
a number of posters have appeared on this forum whose language is more suitable for the gutter.
We are all quite aware that a serious issue in this nation of ours is that a few really believe they have a right to silence speech, except theirs.....................
The Political Talk forum in a sense is the wild west. However for the most part it remained civil and disagreements did not dissolve into a hate fest...until
Those of us who enjoy discussing politics and religion cannot let these few dictate. I have much to share and much to learn. I will not let anyone deny me that opportunity.
I have employed the ignore list on those individuals who have made personal attacks on a number of posters and whose only purpose is to create mischief and chaos.
If a tree falls philosophy works quite well. If more posters employed its use... well as name implies such bellicose posters can never be heard because they are ignored and they become invisible. do it and don't look back because these trolls have no substantive value

Many posters in the political forum...are in fact Trolls.
They have no concept of, nor have obviously ever done, actual 'debating' and simply want to stand on their soapboxes, bloviating, acting superior and spreading lies without ever bothering to back those lies with a link (even if it's from a biased op-ed) and expect others to believe them...just because they are the ones who said it.
The ultimate in arrogance IMHO.
When those few of us actually provide the basis of our viewpoint with links, the usual suspects come out and in a few sentences...try to personally deride, denigrate and are told we're being 'too wordy.'
As if the important and complicated issues facing us in these trying times...can actually be crammed into 140 characters or less. :ohdear:
It's always much easier to attack the poster, especially those who put effort into presenting their viewpoint/opinion by providing proof...than to spend a modicum of effort trying to refute those views with some type of factual support.
In Taltarzac's case, there are a handful that constantly exhibit their need to bully him on a personal scale...that 5th graders would even find cruel.
And then there are those that will just stand on the sidelines while this occurs, solely because they happen to share the politics of these bullies...and are loathe to criticize them.
Extremely sad...when one thinks about it. :(

Quite true.
Tal, I wouldn't let these bullies get to you---you know yourself, and you know what they are all about. And the last thing that you should do with bullies is let them know that they are getting to you. Either ignore them completely, or take them out to the school yard and give them a (figurative) black eye.

I do use the Ignore List quite often but when one of these bullies starts a thread with a jab at me of some kind that is hard to do. Kate told me if I go on the Political Forum on TOTV I might go insane because I am way too nice to go on there. Kate is a computer programmer recently retired who used to help various hospitals in the US with their computer glitches. Brilliant woman it seems. I am still sane though. Not sure if Kate reads TOTV anymore. She might. She told me to avoid the Political Forum quite a long while ago. I have known Kate for a long time. She is a Villager and a friend. Do not know her handle though on TOTV.

I would like to beat them up, literally, and I have never done anything like that before.
I don't think the Political Forum should be shut down and I can tolerate the locker room language and the racist dogma but Tal is a real person who has been very honest about his challenges. It is the same thing day after day calling him boy and saying he is a loser because he lives with his parents and isn't employed. It goes far past being insensitive.
Sometimes political disagreements become heated and there is a lot of name calling but this is plain school yard bullying by people who have all of the things that Tal doesn't.
If it continues I will expose their screen names on the real forum and copy their taunts and bring them here which will get me thrown off this forum. I don't care.
Actually I did a little legal work for another nice woman last year. Just law librarian stuff. Helping her deal with her dog that got attacked by a much bigger dog. I must say though that sometimes I fell like this nurse's pooch after she was picked up and tossed around by this German Shepherd/dachshund mix. And she had a Spanish speaking Federal agent assisting her too when the dog got mauled. The little dog is doing quite well the last I heard. So, I am not exactly unemployed. I do other stuff but do not talk about it on TOTV.
The nurse does not like computers that much so I doubt if she is on TOTV but her sister or her sister's friends could be. The sister of the nurse is also a Villager.
And I live with parents because I am a care giver for them as well. I could go up to DC to live with my older brother or could go to other relatives in other parts of the US if I were not helping out my parents quite a lot. The neighbors also help a great deal too.

The nurse does have a huge pit bull mix so I get where you are coming from. The little dog slipped out of the house and got attacked by a neighbor's German Shepherd/dachshund mix. Now that is a weird breed mix owned by someone whose English is often not that good. Thus the need for a Spanish speaking Fed. The Fed and the nurse were dating obviously.
The dachshund mix would have had a problem with the very big pit bull if it had got out rather than the little innocent and sweet white dog.
I just hate it when they attack me relentlessly because I appear like someone who is down-and- out and they need to start kicking. Like constantly calling me wackadoodle. https://www.talkofthevillages.com/forums/villages-florida-political-talk-88/more-intersesting-than-wackadoodles-library-thread-239695/ I did have a mental breakdown in April of 2000 the circumstances of which I reported to both the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office on September 18, 2002 in person at their Headquarters and to various FBI offices around the country. But, I have been on an even keel since I had my boat rocked back in 1999-2000. That was something a lot more sinister though which I believe the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office accepted but refused to investigate. I did get out of the Headquarters after handing them over quite a lot of documents supporting my story. The detective I talked to said that what had happened to me was not protected by the Criminal Laws of the State of Florida and I was not going to argue with a man who turned out to be a Homicide Detective. He just happened to be the Detective on call when I walked into the Sheriff's Headquarters.

Yes. I know many people at DDRR. Very nice owners there and I crossed paths with one of the DDRR owner's kids yesterday working somewhere near DDRR. I bought a new Mr. Coffee pot for my Dad for Father's Day while out-and-about. I have been going to DDRR since November of 2006 when looking for a dog at one of their adoption events. Met Petie and Holly there. Or saw them for the first time.

I think the OP should follow the old bar rule...no discussing politics or religion. Those are hot button issues at any age and I think with 4 degrees the OP would be educated enough to understand that.

A Political Forum should be for mature discussion of the issues not for personal name calling that does not help any debate whatsoever. This is not the Junior High School bath room stall.

It is not for just Seniors but Seniors make up 80% or so of Villagers. I moved here with my parents in 2005 when I was 46 from Palm Harbor, Florida. Been on TOTV since July 2007. 25, 507 posts and have made a lot of friends on here. Many are lurkers who never post.

That depends on whether or not you believe mature adults can have a reasonably intelligent discussion of either politics or religion without reverting to the behavior of 3rd graders.

This week while talking to a friend the subject of social media came up. We talked about "Next Door", where posters are helpful, not hateful. She voiced a strong dislike for TOTV because of how rough and rude the posters are here and said she doesn't come here anymore. She was unaware that she can hide the political forum by clicking the "Hide Classified" button.
I think the moderators should install a separate red button, "Hide Political", in plain site, or require a separate "Sign In" to enter that forum. Allowing political forum posts to mix with those in the general forum gives a really bad taste of what the people who live in The Villages are like.

WE talk about politics at Doggie Doo Run Run a lot but our dogs keep us honest and they can sense when people are getting a little too upset for their own good.
And some people just walk away as soon as people start with the political stuff-- there goes Grace. A different Grace I know. I am acquainted with a lot of Graces.
And if a woman has a massive pit bull mix in tow I am very careful what I say around or to her. Or when she has a Fed as a friend.

I am not even sure some of these people are in the Villages. And the majority of posters on TOTV behave. There is a small group of extremely nasty posters on the Political Forum who feed on another's hate and often target anyone who looks weak to them. And that often brings out the worst in other posters as well.

What is frustrating is lectures based on political beliefs.
I am lectured because I offer criticism of the President with links to back up my point.
Those who disagree are snide, filthy mouthed, uninformed and sneaky.
AND I get the lecture and these folks, BECAUSE OF THEIR POLITICAL STANCE AND POSITION are unscathed by anyones words.
My posts are two long....my posts have too many links....my posts have too much copy and paste, however those who critique ME, loudly and proudly support those who offer nothing ever but smart immature wise cracks loaded with sexually offensive terms and language.
I must mis understand a political forum after all these years. I thought sharing what we read and opinions was the norm.
Yes, this post is personal.......I agree with TAL in that this is personal now....those filthy mouth folks have taken over this forum.....those who never do anything but lecture, depending on the political stance of the other poster...they OWN this place and as I said when i came back on here, my point was that it had been overtaken by a group, and surprisingly, they still hang on and offer nothing but change the subject on any thread that is uncomfortable......and gee would it be great to have someone share links for actual news, which of course most on here do not believe anyway.
Actually, those who do not visit, although it is totally understandable, make those who dominate stronger. It has changed me with posting for sure....in order to survive I lose my way and have an "I dont care attitude because I know who is there.....would be great if others would join in and uplift the conversation with facts, links and honest discussion. The political forum, is resembling however what is happening in the real world. Simply mean spirited and personal attacks instead of debate.

I do not think it needs to be closed nor even Moderated. However, calling people out for extremely out-of-line statements on the Political Forum should be allowed on the General Discussion on the Villages Regular Board. I have told these bullying posters repeatedly to stop the online harassment and stalking of me but they just continue and often get even nastier.
One of these did seem to get shut down a while ago. I mean a particularly persistent troll who posted many dozens of harassing photos on a Thread I was busy with on the Political Forum. These pictures had absolutely nothing to do with the subject and also demonstrated the complete opposite of the message I was trying to get out.
I enjoy your posts Rockyrd.

I have to remind myself frequently that "words matter." It should, as you have posted, be possible to debate an issue rather than attack the poster. Great comment. Thanks.

I just popped over to the Political Forum. It seems no worse than many online political boards. I see no point in discussing politics online or for that matter even in person. You never really change the other person's deeply held beliefs.
But if you choose to join in political discussions you need to grow a thicker hide.
Tal seems to garner a bit of ridicule in many of his posts..whether political or not. It seems posters have tired of his redundant recitation of his life experiences and discussions of his life long project. I've never met a Legal Librarian who isn't a bit "quirky". Nothing wrong with his quirkiness but I'm sure he gets under some people's skin and they are going to lash out.
As I said before....if you want to discuss hot button issues, don't complain when it gets into a gutter fight.

It's been my observance on any social media site...here, "The Other News", Facebook and more that "some" folks just feel they can't just read it and go on without some sort of silly, degrading, putting-down or whatever kind you put in the blank---comment. Many times, I've noticed that it's the same folks over and over. Opinions? Yes---we all have them but do we have to put them out there? As DB said...words matter, words hurt, words, kill, words can be abuse. I agree with Tal that we're adults...older ones at that and should know better!!! Were these folks like that in their work place, are they like that with their family and friends?? By the number of posts/pages on this link it's struck a cord!!!!

And all the law librarians I have met are also a bit strange. Probably because we do not really fit in with lawyers nor with librarians.
I have a thick hide. It is the stalking harassers that cross the line probably of legality too as there are laws against online abuse. If one or worse a group of people start verbally abusing someone they deliberately target on the TOTV Political Boards that's a big problem.

A review of the political forum shows you calling vulgar names to those that you oppose politically.
Also you have started many hateful posts about Trump.
Something I can't believe is that you repeatedly defended the person that called for the assassination of the sitting President.
I did too because I know her. That isn't her at all.

"That woman" must be someone you know, is that why you defended her?
Why would a private person post all the personal things on totv?
I do not know her. She was being ganged up on by people on the Political Board.
I wanted to find out why she allegedly wrote that. People can quote people incorrectly and frequently it seems do add in names to those they quote. I usually have wackadoodle added.
I do not know you so I am not going to say anything more about why I post stuff on TOTV. You have 23 posts. You could be anyone.

This thread is now closed. Despite the title, it is entirely about the Political Forum. Moderators aggressively remove any posts in the main forums that are directed at another member or are inappropriate. Spillover into the main forums is one of the primary reasons the old Political Forum was closed. When the forum was reinstated, it was to be unmoderated and members could enter the forum at their own risk.
When you sign in to TOTV you can avoid political forum threads by clicking on New Posts. If you click on Today's Posts, political threads will appear. Members should also look under UserCP to see if they have at any time subscribed to or joined the Political Forum. They can opt out if they wish.
