Anyone have advice on best/cheapest way to get a new Fob for a car? I just bought a 2016 Ford, but it only came with a single key. I see that eBay and others online will sell the fob, but I still need to pay to program and cut the spare key. A local dealer said they charge $100 just for cutting & programming.

Is there a better way?

Recently lost my Buick FOB. Dealer wants $78 for a new one and 2 hours labor at $97 an hour to program it. I would be interested in a cheaper way also.

I recall seeing a vendor recently at Market of Marion that has loads of FOBS and I think does programming?
Might be worth checking out.

Also here's some info from Consumer Reports.

Try Ace Hardware. They can do some (but not my DH's refuse-to-part-with 2005 Magnum). I think he paid $150 at the Dodge dealer for a replacement.

Don't do it. I bought one. Cheap Chinese. Lasted a year before internal solder joint failure.

ours would have cost $148 for our Jeep. I did not have remote start so for $89 I had remote start put on with two new key fobs. Win Win

By it online. Do a google search for reviews. Then take it to a full sefvice locksmith and have them program it. You might also check around and see which locksmith business does this. Never, ever have the dealer do this and rip you off.

Look on eBay, there is 6,000 listings for Ford, 33,000 for all cars and most $10 to $20.

I called several locksmiths in the vicinity, and settled upon the Ford Dealer in Mt Dora. They were cheaper by far than most others. Dishonorable mention to the nearby Ford dealer in Leesburg who wanted twice as much as the nice people at Prestige

Kind of an old-ish original posting but maybe some people are still looking.

Their web site is not real specific but have you checked with Affordable Lock & Security Solutions - Lady Lake? They have that castle-like building on 27/441. Seem to do all kinds of locks and stuff.
