Some friends of mine were talking about men hit many times by lightning and surviving. I wonder if this is still the accepted record of seven? He, ROY C. SULLIVAN, goes through all that and then kills himself over a dame?

When I was in my twenties I met a guy about 23 years old from Connecticut who had been struck by lightning three times. He showed me the scars. Turned out his father had also been struck by lightning which crippled him. A few years after lightning struck his father he was shooting craps behind the ice house when the cops showed up. His father got out of his wheelchair and tried to run away!

Maybe it runs in families?

I think the answer is pretty simple.

Most of us men eschew what we think are signs of weakness, whereas most women are smart enough...to take proper shelter in a thunderstorm.

And a fine one at that. Helen Mirren - Rotten Tomatoes (https://www.rottentomatoes.com/celebrity/helen_mirren/)

My friends were talking about near disasters they were in and one of them had been on a plane in the 1980s that had been hit with a lightning strike. The plane did OK though as the electrical system did not control the entire plane or something like that.

Could it be as simple as...men don't have enough sense to come in out of the rain?

50-year-old woman fatally struck by lightning in Sarasota | WTSP.com (http://www.wtsp.com/news/local/sarasotacounty/50-year-old-woman-fatally-struck-by-lightning-in-sarasota/309489513)

Sometimes that does not work either. A homeless woman was killed when lightning hit the metal roof of the shelter she was under. She had no where else to go in the storm.

Of the 50 states Florida is the lightning capital. While the most frequent lightning strikes occur in the Tampa Bay area, the chance of being struck by lightning in Florida is 1 in 3,000 over the course of a lifetime. Florida accounts for 16% of the average annual fatalities in the United States. That 89% figure for men is accurate.
