The threads on this subject, here a few days ago, can't be found by search. I copied the blurb myself from the unmentionable news source.

Sadly, it's not the first time for drugs or for golf carts. And it won't be the last.

Thugs hide out where they will not be suspected to live and go to a target rich environment to steal.

Not @ all--Tierra Del Sol--is close to SS, that's where the house is, we bought a new house in 2011

Sadly, it's not the first time for drugs or for golf carts. And it won't be the last.

Nor will it be the last time the law enforcement agencies get rid of these dirtbags.

The more they keep getting arrested, the less likely they will be to set up in this area.

I read that there were several complaints from neighbors regarding this operation. That's the way it works. If you see anything suspicious, report it.

If we keep reporting and the police keep arresting fewer and fewer of these criminals will want to do business here.

That CBS report that you link to was dated yesterday June 26th. Villages News ran a similar story 5 days earlier on June 21st and the same day it was covered on a couple of the TV news reports out of Orlando. I haven't seen any updates since the original story. Because we cannot link the Villages News to TOTV and it does have some different info and such as the actual address and mug shots, I pasted the story here. The mug shots cannot be linked here either.

Five people hauled away in handcuffs from problematic property in Palo Alto

BY STAFF REPORT - JUNE 21, 2017

Village of Palo Alto neighbors were thrilled early Wednesday morning when the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office swooped down on a problematic property and arrested five people on a host of drug charges.

The home at 1902 Antonia Place has been the scourge of the neighborhood for quite a while.

The SWAT Team, armed with a search warrant, arrived at about 6 a.m. along with a host of deputies and patrol cars.

“The investigation and search warrant stemmed from numerous complaints for this residence for suspicious activity related to narcotic sales, suspicious incidents and persons involved in the theft of golf carts, as well as, for being a general nuisance to the neighborhood,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement.

The search of the residence revealed numerous parts related to golf carts consisting of windshields, seat cushions, wheels and tires along with other various parts that were discovered in the attic and garage area.

At this time the sheriff’s office has been unable to connect any recent golf cart thefts to the group working from this home.

At the time of the execution of the search warrant, only one item has been reported as a stolen item from Georgia. Detectives recovered less than 1 gram of methamphetamine and less than 20 grams of marijuana. The investigation is ongoing and additional arrests in the future may be possible.

Those arrested include:

• Charlotte L. Gajewsky, 45, is facing charges including possession and sale of methamphetamine. In 2015, she was arrested for pawning a hospitalized friend’s jewelry.

• Kenneth Ray Padgett, 53, has been charged with possession of weapon/ammunition by a convicted felon as well as multiple drug charges. He was arrested on drug charges in 2014 at Wal-Mart at Buffalo Ridge.

• Michael Edward Witkowski, 63, is facing charges of possession of marijuana and a new legend drug. Last year, he was found squatting in a home in The Villages.

• Kathleen Unrath, 43, is facing charges of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. She has been repeatedly arrested for driving without a license.

• William Romska, 38, is facing charges of possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a new legend drug.

If anyone has information about this case, contact the Criminal Investigations Division 352-793-2621 or Crimeline at 1-800-423-TIPS (8477)

I find it hard to believe this warrants national news attention. It seems to me that the mainstream media - USA Today in the instant case - enjoys vilifying The Villages. Drug raid in The Villages retirement community nets evidence of golf cart '''chop shop''' (https://www.yahoo.com/news/m/facc637d-db4a-3bf8-ba4d-084bbdb92baf/ss_drug-raid-in-the-villages.html)

If this happened anywhere else in the country it would be considered business as usual.

It's the man bites dog scenario. Should be no surprise.

Where else in the country would have a golf cart chop shop run by retired old people?
