View Full Version : PLEASE quit turning short on your left turn out of tunnels!

Going down to enter the tunnel in front of Sumter Grand this morning, a cart exiting the tunnel turned short left and damned near hit me. This happens to me several times a month and I rail on this frequently; doesn't anyone know to look at those mirrors opposite the tunnel ends to see if another cart is coming? I saw him coming to the end in the mirror, I just didn't expect him to go stupid and turn short.

If this helps one person from getting hit, you're welcome.

Good luck as I see this behavior quite a bit. Even saw one guy "roll and go" (he only slowed down enough to turn) through a stop sign and he didn't even look to his left, where I happened to be in my cart. Fortunately I always assume that there are Darwin award candidates behind any wheel otherwise I might have hit him, had I not slowed down BEFORE he went through the stop sign.

People need to stop assuming their safety and they need to own it.

If only it was just the MMP tunnels we had this problem. I see it all the time on almost every corner, people keep cutting the corners short on the left hand turns. Two years ago at the corner in front of my CYV a car cut the left turn and ran head long into a Community Watch truck, both had to be towed away. If it had been a golf cart instead of a CW truck, the driver would have been easily killed. The CYVs are especially dangerous because the left hand turns are almost always blind turns because of the walls and homes being so close to the roadway.

What is the hurry? Isn't almost everyone here retired?

Another reason not to use a golf cart, unless you're playing golf--it could be worth your life or being crippled for life-IMHO, golf carts are death traps

Nope! Lotsa outsiders driving in the Villages! Delivery folks, landscape folks, pool maintenance folks, home healthcare folks, family and friends, etc...not to mention the residents who are late for an appt or tee time! ;)

It is cute that you think that anyone will actually change their stupid ways based on a posting here :D

We should all be issued suction cup dart guns like we had when we were kids. These darts should have a flag attached that said STUPID and any time a cop saw a cart or car with more than two the driver would be issued a citation. :icon_wink:

It helps with blowing off the steam. There are many people who read TOTV though if you can get one person to drive more carefully that's a victory.

I have to wonder how many folks here had "driver's education" and then applied what they learned. Seems like not many by the observations I've made. I once heard someone comment with "I never stopped in ___state they moved here from___so I'm not starting now!" Karma may come and get you if that's the attitude you take. PLUS I still maintain there are folks driving who long ago should have given away their keys (and vehicle) as they're no longer able!

most gas golf carts roll and go. gas carts die every time the come to stop and you have to wind them back up again, which takes seconds. sometime that them seconds can get you in trouble. If the cart was at the 4 was stop first he has the right-a-way anyway. Its the ones that don't have the right of way that don't stop that causes problems IMO, Not in line till You STOP. IMO this also applies to vehicles.

the above may not apply to your incident if it wasn't 4 way stop.

I was parked in parking spot with another cart waiting. the guy came out (which his cart was ahead of mine in the spot. His front wheels was not straight. he got in put it in reverse and didn't even look back. I had to yell to prevent him from hitting me. Then I had to back out so he could get out, like he didn't know how to maneuver the cart backwards. I gladly moved out of His way that was for sure.

If you read my posts on here, you should realize by now I don't say "cute" things on here. Being a retired LEO, the close call I had this morning prompted me to do a "public service announcement" in an effort to try to try to stop a possible accident.

To try and prevent an accident was my point.

IMHO its the feeling of not being able to be identified that allows a lot of golf cart drivers to drive the way they do.The other week a driver threw a can at a bicyclist & now with the probability of parking enforcement looming--golf cart tags or other identification will have to be a reality--its long overdue

It absolutely is needed and overdue.

Sorry, but I expect every other person on the road to do something stupid all the time. It's the only way to drive.
