we are planning on renting again this January and February in the Chatham area. Last year we loved it, except for the train noise. Understand that was an issue and there were some posts about its possible resolution.
Been following TOTV since our return and haven't seen any updates.
Curious if it still is an issue. Not a huge deal we resolved it by keeping windows closed and ceiling fan running, that seemed to help.
Thanks any updates greatly appreciated.
Other than that we had a great time and are looking forward to our return.
Great folks, great golf and great times!

I don't live in Chatham area, but I do play golf up that way. And I have not noticed any appreciable change in the train activity or noise.

At one point they were talking about re-routing some of the freight traffic away from Orlando over to the line that runs by The Villages. This was to free up traffic in order to accommodate additional passenger traffic. I don't think that has happened yet nor am I sure it will happen. However, living within hearing distance, I can assure you the train traffic is alive and well. I live far enough away so it does not annoy, in fact, I rather enjoy it.

Thanks for the updates. "Sounds" like things will be pretty much the same as last year. Like I said didn't always notice them, at times they seemed much louder and closer than others.
I had read that there was some talk of using directional horns and quiet times, but apparently that has not come to be.
Really love that part of the Villages and looking forward to our return.

I remember reading here on this forum the RR"s were to install directional horns. If so, I expect they were given time to do it. Frankly, I'm not sure how much it will help those living close to the tracks.
BTW, atmospheric conditions has a definite effect on how sound travels.
