I am just so made I have to vent before I blow up. I cannot get over how some people treat their dogs. I want to say a lot more, but will refrain and just stick to telling you what happened.
This is heartbreaking. Our rescue took this girl in.
Animal Control got a complaint from a neighbor about the way a woman was taking care of her dog. They showed up to find a poor, blind, 13 year old doxie, living in her own feces and urine, tied to a lawn mower in a hot shed. She had been living that way for 2 years! They told the woman she had to surrender the dog and they fined her (not enough punishment in our opinion). The poor dog smelled so bad and the feces, urine & fleas were so matted in her long hair, they had to anesthetize her to shave her little body down.
Luckily an Animal Rescue League took her in. They are a no kill facility that takes dogs from animal control to keep them from euthanasia. Then they contacted Florida Dachshund Rescue and we agreed to take her.
When she got to her foster home, she still smelled so bad that she had to have a bath right away. She seemed to like that. But her skin is a mess and she is still very itchy. She had bloody diarrhea, had very bad teeth and a tumor. Luckily she is heartworm negative. They are treating her for the diarrhea, but she needs a dental very soon and she may lose all her teeth. They will also evaluate the tumor to see if it needs removed.
In case anyone is interested in donating to help us pay for her vet care to get her back to being a normal, happy dog, I'll post the info. in the comments section below.
