There was a post on my Facebook page this morning regarding info about a coyote following a lady and her Maltese dog.. she was walking with doggie at 5:50 this morning in Village of Bonnybrook. She and pup are ok but i figured it did not hurt to post a reminder that coyotes are out there .....be aware when you are out and about with your fur buddy..

They are usually out at dawn and dusk. I often walk with a five iron around that time and at night. It also can be used as a cane with a nice walking handle. How to Swing Each Golf Club : 5-Iron Golf Swing - YouTube (https://youtu.be/X7M8VIWFeCU)
I have seen them here in Lynnhaven and in Belvedere at other times (8:30 AM; 10:00 AM; 2:30 PM) but they were moving fast away from people those three times.

Last week I was walking Mookie around 9:30 p.m. near the Gilchrist mail station when 2 coyotes crossed Pinellas Pl . They kept their eyes on us but didn't want anything to do with us.Mookie on the other hand wanted to play 😆

Mookie-- if that is him or her-- looks bigger than most of the coyotes I have seen in the Villages except one of them.

He's just under 70 pounds and all legs. The 2 coyotes we saw weren't much smaller.

They are all legs too except for what looked like an alpha coyote I had thought was a German Shepherd loose in the neighborhood at 2:30 PM but it was a well fed coyote. Probably closer to 80 lbs. It could have been a half-breed.

This is the very reason I always carry the S&W Bodyguard .380 and my expandable steel baton just in case they decide to get a real close look at the pups and I.

Given the many coyote sightings and the ever growing and rapid increase in the squirrel population it appears Florida coyotes are lousy hunters. i guess chicken bones found in the trash and left at the end of the driveway play more to their skills

I was surprised when I saw one today at 6:45 AM. I thought they were in their den by that time. He was just strolling down the street and Mallory Square. Very nonchalant and did not look hungry. By the way, it was not garbage night he was in the wrong neighborhood, he should've been north of Odell. It was their garbage night. Maybe had his fill it was on his way home. I guess he lives by us

Two things that attract coyotes to neighborhoods are people leaving food out for their pets and decks and porches for shelter. The Villages does not provide those attractions. That doesn't mean they won't travel through here to check things out as they roam.
