View Full Version : Another bad experience at Colony Tire Choice

We had a questionable experience 5 years ago with my wife having to purchase 4 new tires when she was told a nail hole was in an area they couldn't repair. I saw where the nail hole was but had to leave for work in my old home state so instructed her to go to Colony Tire Choice to have tire plugged and I'd deal with long term when I got home. Well that plug turned into 4 new tires and a full extra service/insurance package. I had not been back until today when I could not get into my regular service place for an oil change and tire rotation. Remembering my last experience I marked my two back rims just to make sure they did get rotated. As I waited in lobby the scheduler came out with the obligatory 4 or 5 hundred dollars worth on service I needed, including a wheel alignment. I said thank you but just oil change and tire rotation today. About :30 later car was "ready". I paid and left. When I got home I checked and tires had not be rotated. Called Tire Choice and they said they had been rotated, he said she said I guess. I wonder if I got the synthetic oil I paid extra for? I did file an online complaint to Florida Attorney General. I'd like to contact owner but no contact information?

There are several Threads on Colony Tire Choice and most of the posts are not favorable. Though it may be convenient, I would hesitate to take my car there for any reason.

No question, the most honest and best garage for the car is Wildwood Tire just off 44 right after you get off of 301.:a040:

After all the bad posts on this site it is a wonder if anyone would go to Tire Choice.
Sumter Tire on 301 in Wildwood is the place for me and they are outstanding in service and reputability.
Wildwood Tire on 44 at 301 is also as good IMHO

To stroke your ego I will agree you are right about me using them. That said an oil change and tire rotation at a tire store seemed pretty safe. They didn't sell me something I didn't need, they didn't do something I paid for. Big difference. Just sharing my experience for those new to community that are interested, but thanks for your feedback.

Some you have posted on this site, you obviously read the topics. I can't help but to wonder why would you take your car there? If you were lucky enough not to get taken advantage once, then you should have run! These criminals are getting away with what they are doing in spite of all of the poor publicity.
The word was out and you didn't listen.....

Tire Choice. Too bad I didn't read these posts before I took my car there. I was in a jam and it was late. I too had a tire that "could not be repaired" according to the on duty manager Rich. Ordered a new tire and am having it installed right now. Just got a call that my rear shocks are leaking and need to be replaced. No way. I fear these A-holes are simply taking advantage of us Villagers. Never going back!

I would have loved to use Sumter Tire as they are outstanding with customer service; unfortunately, I wanted Hankook tires which they don't carry. I ended up going to Discount Tire in Ocala and had an amazing experience. They quoted me an out the door price that was very competitive and that was the exact price I paid. Waiting area was very clean. If you can't use Sumter Tire, I would highly recommend Discount Tire in Ocala.

There are enough people "out there" that never read TOTV or are smart enough to do their due diligence on a place or a service before they scratch a check or swipe the plastic with them.

I’m OP on this thread and did contact attorney generals office to file a complaint. Was gone month of August and of course Irma hit right after. Case worker attempted to call me before Irma and left message. When I spoke to them in Sept I told them I still wanted to follow up on my complaint but understand with hurricane they have bigger issues to follow up on so I’d wait. I’ll let forum know any results. Again I’m not interested in refund I just believe they are taking advantage of people who just don’t know and therefore trust them.

My elderly, widowed, handicapped Mom came home one day with new tires for her golf cart bought from Tire Choice. It cost her a bundle and at one glance, I knew that she had been taken by them. The tires were too big for the cart, sticking out from the fenders 2". I got into the cart to see how it felt and they were off balance, doing a kluklump every rotation of the tires. I brought the cart back to them and they refused to give us the original tires saying that they didn't have them anymore and it had been only overnight. The mgr., a rotund man, cornered me and screamed at me to the point that I had to call the district mgr. to tell him how he tried to intimidate me. Being a woman, being yelled at by a large man and cornered was scary. In the end, my Mom had to sell the brand new tires to a cart tire place as a trade in for tires that fit her Par Car cart. I'll never deal with these people again. They saw an elderly woman and took advantage of her. She lost in total 1/2 of her money due to their shady deal with her. Of course, we'll never go near that place again. Beware.

We use the dealer for service. While doing an oil change they noticed a nail in my tire. It was about an inch from the edge of the tire and they told me they could not patch it. Reason???? Insurance????? They told me that i could take it to Sumpter tire and they would patch it.
Aside-plugging a tire is actually a temporary repair. Forcing that rubber plug into the hole further damages the fibers that support the tire.
Sumpter tire, 810 n main st wildwood. Patched the tire for us in about 20 minutes. They did it properly by taking the tire off the rim and patching in from the inside. The difference is that the air pressure makes the patch tighter rather than with a plug the air trying to force it's way around the plug. They even marked where the balance weights were and put them back so that I did not have to pay for a balance job.
As to your replacing four tires. There are important details missing. Perhaps, they were worn. Perhaps, the sidewalls were damaged due to hitting curbs etc.
As to flats. The workmen around here regularly drop nails and screws all over here. In four years I had one flat in my car and another in my golf cart.
By the way the flat on my golf cart was patched with a plug by Villages Golf cart. It cost us about $5.00 very reasonable as they gave us a loaner for the day.

Paper1, thanks for sharing your negative experience, and it's a shame that you got castigated and questioned on your due diligence. Some posters live on this site, and can't believe that everyone else doesn't, too.
Sharing your bad experience is a benefit for everyone.

I use to go there for service, but after feeling like they were thinking I knew not what they were doing, and reading all the bad reviews on this forum and others, I decided to take my business elsewhere. Spreading the word is the only way to affect them!

Wildwood is very good/ Sumter Tire also in Wildwood is another reputable and fair dealer.
Tire Choice unsuccessfully attempted to upsell me. What are some places close to Colony to just get an oil change?

I like WalMart on 466 for oil changes. Not close to Colony but the time goes by quickly when you have other shopping to do.

I hate to slam a Village location business, but I have to jump on this bandwagon. I took my car to Colony Tire two years ago, stupidly without checking TOTV threads. I had a small, but annoying steering noise. I walked out $3500 lighter. Same noise appeared over the past six months and I checked this site and noted the many recommendations for Mike's Auto in Fruitland Park. He gave me an oil change and replaced a seal on my power steering pump which was leaking for $85. Before the service, I gave Mike the Colony receipt because I did not want any duplicate work. When I paid him he laughed at the Colony charges and commented how can they sleep at night. As an example, he said he charges $250 for brakes and rotors and Colony charged $495. Now I wonder whether all the work charged was even done. At least now I have a mechanic I can trust.

Thank you for support, I do appreciate it. Attorney generals office seems to have forgotten me. I will call them tomorrow after reading latest post. Florida is very business friendly to the point that many people are getting screwed with impunity.

I bought 4 tires from colony tire choice- two went flat next morning. I filled them up and took my cart back . The manager said there was nothing wrong with them. Next morning they were flat again.
I WONT BUY FROM
THEM AGAIN AND I HAVE TOLD ABOUT 200 PEOPLE NOT TO BUY FROM THEM- MAY BE IF ENOUGH PEOPLE DONT BUY FROM THEM . THEN THERE WILL BE A CONSEQUENCE???

From the reviews on TOTV for Michaels Automotive, I went to him for A/C repair this past summer. His quote was $400 less than another place offered. Michael did an excellent job, and answered several questions I had on other mechanical issues in a straight forward, no nonsense manner. I believe he is trustworthy and I highly recommend him.
He doesn't do wheel alignments so he recommended Boulevard Tire in Lady Lake. Just this morning I went there for an oil change, tire rotation, and all 4 wheels aligned (same repair company that was overpriced on A/C work said I needed it) Boulevard Tire serviced my car and told me I DID NOT need an alignment. I now believe I have found two honest car repair shops.

Another horror story. Bought four tires two years ago from Tire Choice at Colony. Tires have been great but I felt they needed to be rebalanced (because of a slight vibration at highway speeds)which was supposed to be a "free" service for the life of the tires. Ha. They said since I had not had the tires rotated every 8,000 miles(give me a break) the "expert" tire specialist could tell my tires were feathered and it was impossible to balance them, they were ruined, and I needed new tires to the tune of $869. These tires have about 24,000 miles on them. I said hahaha see you latter. Went to another tire store, they balanced my tires, said they didn't need to be rotated and looked brand new! Tires work great now--no more highway vibration. Wow!!! They also said the original weights that were installed at Tire Choice were off more than 1-11/2 oz per wheel! Never go to Tire Choice!!!

I live in the middle of Tire Choice colony and Tire Choice on Wedgewood. Needed golf cart tires mounted and with the noise on this thread I called to see if the price was the same ???? NO WAY !!!!
COLONY $25 per tire
WEDGEWOOD $15 per tire
Guess where I'm going now.

I don't like Tire Choice either. But, yesterday, I had a screw stuck in my tire. I drove across the street to the Colony Tire Choice, they fixed it in less than 30 minutes, and charged me $38. I was afraid to drive to Wildwood because of possibly getting stuck with a flat tire. Did I have another option?

Yes you did, it is the spare tire that you carry in your trunk.
