My wife & I will be making our first trip to TV in Jan. 2010. We are taking advantage of their Preview Plan (6 days). Looking forward to enjoying all that TV has to offer.

Oh Brozzy, be prepared to be swept off your feet. It is so lovely here, so friendly, so interesting, so clean, so just right for grown ups!

We will be there in January. Be sure to let us know when you are coming so some of us Villagers can arrange a meet and greet!

HI Brozzy,

You're going to enjoy your visit. It really is a wonderful place to live and trying to describe it isn't easy. You can't really understand what the place is like until you are here.
It will be very busy in January, lots going on, though there is always lots of things happening around the Villages. See as much as you can, the place is very large, but you don't have a crowded feeling....you'll understand that when you get here.

Post when you get here....you already have friends.

And, remember, Brozzy:

There won't be any snow!

Hi graciegirl,

I'm Brozzy's wife, Chris. Wanted to know if we need to rent a car for a 6 day stay. What do you think?

Hi graciegirl,

The Sales Department has probably already told you all about the Villages Shuttle Service from the airport.

I think renting a golf cart would be way more fun for you than renting a car. (Unless you want to take side trips outside The Bubble). I sincerely doubt you'll want to leave TV once you arrive!

Hey Bare...

Only a few more weeks till you fly South.

Chris and Brozzy,

I think a cart now comes with the Lifestyle Program. Also a pair of bikes. If you take the airport shuttle it will drop you in Lake Sumter Landing across the square from the sales center. It is also not far from Creekside where you will be staying. Someone from the sales center will likely drop you off at your villa/home.

As Bare says, unless you also would like to explore a bit outside of TV - like take a beach day trip - you most likely will not need a car for the week. If you want one for just a day, there is an Enterprise in TV - they'll pick you up!

Hello Brozzy,
I had the preview in June of 08 and it is the best thing to do. The preview comes with a golf cart, his and her bikes with helmets and things like tickets to the movies etc. We have 2 movie theaters with about 5 movies showing at each one. 2 bowling alleys....lots to do.
January is the busiest month of the year here so don't be put off by all the people and traffic. Everyone wants to get away from the cold in January.
The summer months are hot....but so is Iowa and Indiana!
Remember........you don't have to shovel heat!!

If you plan to just do normal Village stuff, you can probably get by with a golf cart just fine. However, if you think you might want to do some serious house shopping, you may want to rent a car. This place is very large and to get from one end to the other or just a lot of point A to B stuff takes a long time in a golf cart. Also, the nights can be quite chilly in January. Driving around in a drafty, unheated golf cart may not be everyone's idea of fun.

I'm not sure why you want to rent a car. If you are on the Pre-view plan they provide a golf cart. You can go anywhere in TV on the cart. And it is more fun. We've only been there for one pre-view visit and we put the house on the market as soon as we got home.

Thanks to all of you for the ideas regarding renting a car. It sounds like we will be plenty busy just doing TV for our week stay.

About the weather. What type of clothes would be appropriate for January weather?

Hope to get to meet all of you when we come.

Chris

Averages are high 60s and mid 40s for day and night, respectively. However, as you can see from the records, it can get up to the 80s and down to the teens.

If you want to save some time, sell the house in Iowa before you come. You're going to love the activities, weather(except something we have here called 'lightning'), and most of all the disgustingly optimistic and overly friendly people. You will not need a rental car unless you need to get out of the Villages, but you'll have plenty to do without the rental car.

Enjoy!!!

There are some very good rental deals now at the airports. I would check the cost of the car rental vs. shuttle service to TV. You may find that the weekly rental is the same as the shuttle costs. It is an easy 1 hour drive from the Orlando airport. I just rented a car there last week. The best rates were at Dollar and Thrifty.

Hi Chris,
I would rent a car, but maybe not for all 6 days. You would be able to check the areas not available by golf cart.
We are close to many major attractions and towns.
One thing you will want to bring with you is a GPS. Some of the new areas of the villages are not in the programs yet, but you will find it very usefull. You will need to enter Lady Lake in it instead of the villages for it to pick up the maps.
Also, the map they provide you with is not the greatest. Ask for the detailed map of TV (it will cost $5) The detailed map is the one that will keep you from getting lost. (just misplaced)
If you get lost, pull over and take out the map and see how fast people will stop to offer you help.
P.S. take the free trolley tour first in order to get a general idea of where things are.
I hope this helps.

Tolls are about $5.00 (bring about $3 in quarters).
