The VHA Voice that was delivered with today's Daily Sun has something I find astounding.
Dan Bard, the Mira Mesa VHA rep in the Lake Region, reported this:
"At the Town of Lady Lake Board Meeting it was mentioned again that the state is planning to remove the Hwy. 441 bridge over Hwy. 25 between Stein Mart and RaceTrac within 5 years. This will open up the area for more commercial development."
 I'm flabbergasted! How can the cost of this project be justified with "more commercial development?"
How will the 441-25 intersection be controlled - more traffic signals or a roundabout or ???
What will the mess during the construction be like?
Unbelievable!!!

A good example of feathering the government nest with more tax dollars. Who cares about safety or taxpayer convenience which is why the bridge was built in the first place.

Another stupid wasteful idea. Hopefully it will be shot down.

Great! A spot to build a Costo, Trader Joe's, Wegmans or any other of the retailers folks keep asking to locate here.

If it's the State's plan to remove it, I don't think the Town has much say in the matter. Much like how the state plans to add traffic circles to 301 in Wildwood.

Below is the desription for a job coming up in Lady Lake. It is a FDOT state job. So it seems the bridge will be gone to complete this widening of 441 to 6 lanes thru Lady Lake.
:mademyday:
Site work and paving for a road / highway in Lady Lake, Florida. Design plans call for site work for a road / highway; and for paving for a road / highway.
This is a reconstruction project that will widen the road to 6 lanes on US 441 from Lake Ella Road to Avenida Central.
As of July 31, 2017, this project is in the design stage. Information regarding contractor selection has not been disclosed. A firm timeline has not been established; however, bid letting is scheduled for July 31, 2019. Construction is expected to begin shortly thereafter.

Some awfully harsh judgement already without having any clue how the project will be implemented.

They're going to do whatever just wish some of the projects started could get funded for completion before they worry about others getting approved. 441 would be a HUGH project which I'm sure would put many others or hold for a long time. JMO

I agree.:agree:
:icon_wink: I am in complete awe of some members here. With all they have to do running the Villages and most businesses in the area, they still have the time and energy to take on running the FDOT. :BigApplause: Well done!

How would people get across US 441/27 if they do away with the golf cart bridge? I do not believe any golf carts can cross US 441/27 legally?
Or maybe I am thinking of something else in this thread??? The Golf Cart Bridge.mp4 - YouTube (https://youtu.be/lCyAHnvhnOc)

This thread isn't about the golf cart bridge across 441. It's the bridge that takes 441 across Hwy 25... near the shopping center that has Steinmart and Kohl's in it.

Tal, down towards Texas Roadhouse, that's the bridge in question.

I use that bridge often when going from Pet Smart to dropping off stuff at the Lady Lake PL. I do see it may create quite a mess if they get rid of it.

An understandable reason for the removal of the 441 overpass at 25. Thanks, GaryW.

After looking more closely at Google maps, I can see an upgrade to Fennel Blvd, and the complete elimination of the remainder of route 25 south. This would use an EXISTING intersection, it could be completed before the removal of the bridge, and provides (IMHO) minimal impact on all parties. The removal of the roadbed south to the gas station, then opens the land up for the proposed future development. so it will be interesting to see what the actual plans are......

continuing development any way you look at creates overcrowding and overcrowding creates extensive problems including the increase of pests

Let's hope they finish it quicker than the 7-8 years it took to finish the stretch from 466A into Leesburg.

466a is NOT finished yet, still waiting for the 2.5 miles from Pine ridge area to Fruitland park....., just glad they finished the part to 301, but IMHO, it should have been 4 lanes, not 2 lanes and a chicken lane, but I guess that did not fit Wildwoods plans, wait till they see the additional traffic to the new stores....

I meant the stretch of 441, from about 466A heading south.
They about had it finished then realized it was flooding from bad elevation planning, then rebuilt it correctly.
Kept FDOT workers busy for awhile.

"any way you look at it"?
Not exactly. Depends on the quality of the development and your mindset regarding the possibility of development being a good thing. It IS possible. :)

Guess I am just a negative Nellie today... As I am setting by the pool enjoying The Villages life and the fact I can get just about everyone I need using my golf cart and I haven't needed to drive my car in over 10 days, I am failing to see how the elimination of this bridge is going to affect my life? Sure it will be a mess, but is it really going to be that much of a problem? Or is it just another opportunity for people to b@#$h and complain?

I for one can not see why it is a pain either. I am sure the construction and congestion will be a mess for alittle bit in our time, year in FDOT time. LOL
But it is for the better and 6 lanes will flow easier with a red lite for the 25 intersection I would think.
All for the better. :BigApplause::BigApplause:
