ihave been searching for an answer and cant find it. i even emailed the softball director at the rec center but got no reply. can someone tell me the difference between recreationsoftball leagues and nieghborhood softball leagues. thanks for your help

Neighborhood league consists of players from the same Village (if possible) The teams more or less stay the same every season .They use bats supplied by the league and play only on Saturday

Rec leagues play twice a week, weekdays Teams change every season via a draft . The bats used are supplied by the player and are more of a better quality, thus more power .

The rec leagues play their games during the week. Divisions 1,2 and 5 on Wednesday, Friday. 3 and 4 on Monday and Thursdays. The rec leagues hold drafts and select players on a snake draft basis. More competitive than neighborhood. Neighborhood plays on Saturdays. To qualify for ANY softball in TV you have to go through a 3 day tryout. I believe it is held on Tuesday mornings. Once evaluated they will tell you which league to try to join.

There are a number of differences. I will focus on the biggest ones. The Neighborhood Leagues play once a week on Saturdays and the Rec Leagues play twice a week. The Neighborhood Leagues use a Villages provided aluminum bat and you provide your own bat in Rec League. The popular bats in Rec League are composite bats and are "hotter". Neighborhood League starts off with a 1-1 count while Rec League starts with a 0-0 count. Rec League Teams change each season via a draft while Neighborhood League Teams are primarily composed of players from the same Village. Rec League has a playoff at the end of each season while Neighborhood League doesn't. They are both organized by Division based on an evaluation of your playing skills.

I played neighborhood league for 15 seasons in a row, that's 5 years since you play 3 fourteen game seasons a year. Neighborhood teams are coed, generally you won't have more than 1 or 2 ladies on a team, if at all. The aluminum bats as mentioned are provided by the league and both teams use the same bats in the game. Usually you get two 28, two 29 and one 30 bat. Level 4 and 5 start with a 1 - 1 count, I think level 3 and above begin with a 0 - 0 count. This was done with the 4 and 5 divisions about 3 years ago to speed up the game. Neighborhood league you can have a runner, they use to allow a runner from home plate, but that was changed in 2015. You must run to 1st base then a runner can replace you. However, you can continue past first for a double or triple but then you lose the option of getting a runner. With the old rule, you couldn't go beyond first base, and if you did by mistake, you were out, and that happened many times.

Even though Neighborhood teams don't change like Rec League, you may have to move around. In my five years I played (1) season with Calumet Grove, (6) seasons with Tamarind Grove, (2) seasons with Liberty Park and (6) seasons with Amelia. Some teams don't have enough players in the summer so you may have to move to another team for a season, sometimes you village doesn't have a team and then gains a team, or your team goes away for awhile. We even had a split, use to be level 4 and 5 played together, then in the fall of 2014 they were split into separate leagues. My team Tamarind Grove at the time, had 10 level 5 players and 2 level 4 players, myself being one. So Tamarind Grove became a 5 level team and I had to move to Amelia and the other level 4 player moved to St. James. Also Tamarind Grove had a level 3 team, so they had a 5 and a 3 team, but no 4, 2 or 1 team. Very few villages have a 1 or 2 team, there might be a total of ten at anyone time. Level 3 about half the villages have a team, between division 4 and 5 most villages will have one or the other, but very few will have both.

Now if you want to get really confused, ask about RBL or Restrict Bat League. I played that one season. If mornings are not your thing, they play all their games on Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 and 3:30, and you have players from division 4 thru 1 playing together on the same teams.

No. Some Villages don't have enough players of the same skill level (Division) to field a team(s). You also need someone to step up and organize a team(s).
