Another bad experience with a new server at Bonefish. The food is excellent. We have now on two occasions had our server omit putting in our visit for the Dine Rewards program. Obviously this is not gone over with them in their initial training. So much for offering this incentive to come more often,if they aren't insuring that all Dine Rewards members get credit for each visit.

Unfortunate.
We love the Bang Bang and always have great service.

Just a thought. I know there is a lot of room for interpretation but we go out to eat probably 5 times a week, we find the service to be very good most of the time. The only time the service is terrible is when we are ravenously hungry. The people who serve us have a million things on their mind and don't always get everything correct. When anyone is new at a job they could be nervous, may have just gotten stiffed on a tip just before they are not attentive to us and I always keep in mind that things are not instinctive when a person is new. I know what happened wasn't good but at least it can be fixed.
Many people order water with lemon to drink with the meal. When I asked why, was it because they really wanted a water I was told it was to keep the bill and the tip down. This is amazing to me. I try not to judge because it is their money but not taking care of the waiters and waitresses doesn't help retain people so you could expect the problem you had more often. Just a thought. The people I'm talking of have more money than, well they have a lot, now I know how they got it.

Bonefish is my favorite restaurant in The Villages.
I'm sorry you're not receiving dine reward points for eating there, perhaps it's not a popular program.
Do you remind the server when you order?

If I'm not ordering beer, I always order water, because I feel that it is a horrible waste of money to pay $3 for a coke. I am not slighting the wait staff, I'm spending my money wisely. It's how I got here at 50 and am able to eat out 5 nights a week.

Not being sarcastic but inquisitive. Why did you want to be in a a 55 and over retirement community when you were 50, were there not communities with younger people that you could have joined? I too could have been here at 50 but I waited until I was 70 as there was much that I wanted to see and do after I retired.

I started watching & visiting TV when I was sub-40. Every time I visited or did a Life Style, I couldn't wait to get here full time. We purchased prior to the magical 55 and have never regretted it. We are here, we are traveling and we have done "much" and continue to do "much". Our children visit and want to move here and skip their career years. I for one (throw in my Bride for two), totally understand people not waiting until the ripe old age of 70 to come here.

There are many under the age of 60 especially in the new villages of TV. I was 58 when I retired and wife 55. Following retirement we did lots of traveling and still had a home in a 55 and over retirement community. There are so many activities in The Villages that it's impossible to be involved in all of them.
I believe OP is generally correct in that the restaurants in TV do have a lot of inexperience servers. Good employees are difficult to find and it's difficult for them to make a living wage in TV as a Server. Many seniors, Iam ashamed to say, leave poor tips even when they can afford to be more generous. :mmmm:

We dine at Bonefish regularly & never have had an issue with not receiving credit on the dine reward. I guess I would classify it as an honest error and cut the "new" server some slack. I'm guessing that if you returned within a reasonable time with you receipt management would credit you. Just my opinion

Mine is 9 years older... so, um, do the math.

What was management's response?
Bogie, based on the OP's comments the better question may be "is management the solution or the problem". Businesses more often fail because they are poorly managed.

Speaking for myself I have never been enamored with Bonefish. The last visit was the same as the first. I have had tastier meals at the Golden Corral.
We have always found the service to be good.
However we were seated in a section where they crowded in too many tables. The result was when the next tabled filled the server was forced to walk between tables which pretty much placed his derriere in my face.
All was not lost because my wife found it to be most amusing, especially since I had to stop eating and turned my face sideways. How I had wished at that moment that I had the ability of an owl so as to turn my head 180

Everyone not being 70 is one reason we picked The Villages.

I am one of those who orders water with lemon to drink. Why? Because I do not drink when I eat...I should, but I don't (probably wouldn't eat as much:laugh:). It has nothing to do with being "cheap". I sip on it while waiting for the order to come to the table. Why order an expensive something to drink and then walk off and leave it? Also, I am the driver in our family, so I don't like to drink and drive. As for tea, etc., I don't do that, either. I pour tea at home sometimes, and then end up drinking it after we eat, while watching TV. If we have wine, same thing. I do tip well (anyone of us who has worked and relied on tips do) and even add a note as to "excellent service", if it applies. Otherwise, just the tip....always.

Amen, sister. I always calculate 20% and add on from there. It's very rare that I don't leave at least 20%. I don't think I've ever stiffed a server.

My original post was an observation not a jab. It's just the people I was with have conspired to do the water thing and short the tip and that never occurred to me and I was shocked. I'm glad you're with me and tip appropriately, after all being a waiter or waitress is not a game it is how they feed their family. We overlook a snafu with service and chalk it up to it could have been worse. Life is to short rite? :cold: We just chillout. :cold:

I never had the impression that folks in their 70's did less than those in their 50's.
Must be because all the 70 year olds (and older...including me) still act like they are 50.
TV is what keeps us that way!!!!
Age is just a number based on birth date....activity and attitude do the rest.

Excuses, excuses--IMHO--the water/ lemon wedge people are just cheap-I wish all restaurants in TV would charge 50 cents for the lemon wedge--then we will see how many plain water drinkers there are and you better not be sitting @ a bar waiting for happy hour $$ to kick in==you're so obvious it hurts--

Them's fighting words.:D
My wife and I never , never order drinks out and always order water and lemon. I don't because I am the driver. She won't because its a waste of calories.
At home I have a glass of wine with my meal and my wife occasionally
you seem to have an obsession about how people their money.
Better you spend your money the way you see fit and let others do likewise

True...As to the OP perhaps s/he said what s/he felt needed to be said and then left iy open to the membership.
I question management because the OP said the server was appeared poorly trained. training/orientation, etc is the responsibility of management
conversely to support your response perhaps the OP should have told management so management learned that they indeed had a training issue

First, even when a restaurant includes a drink, mostly wine with the meal my wife and I reject the offer and stick with water and lemon.
you define as "cheap"those individuals who switch from booze to water once happy hour is finished. what you label cheap others view as getting value for their dollar.
I can tell you that both my wife and i have a low tolerance for alcohol. succinctly stated I have felt a buzz after only one glass of wine/beer..forget the hard stuff one shot floors me. so some of those folks who switch to water/lemon may be doing so because they have reached their alcoholic limit.
finally my best friend owned a number of restaurants in N Y. he told me more than once that he didn't make money on food but over the bar

I have to agree with you. The last meal we had there will probably be our last. Not because of the service, the service was great. I had the grouper with jumbo shrimp. It ranks right up there with one of the worst meals I have had in a long time. The wife got her bang bang shrimp, which was fine, but mine had no flavor at all. I had her try it and she felt the same way. I squeezed a bunch of lemon on it and dumped a lot of salt on it so it would have at least some flavor. I'm not one to complain to the manager about poor meals I just won't be back.

Just another side of the coin. We just arrived home from a nice experience at Texas Roadhouse. We sat at the bar and had very good service. My wife ordered an ice water, no lemon. It came with lemon, no big deal. We were there for almost two hours. I drank three big beers not on happy hour price. We had dinner, the tab was $50, and we tipped 30%. This evening my wife drove and risked noones life and safety on the way home. People have reasons for doing what they do and drinking what they drink, and it's none of anyones damn business. And I pity the person that tells my wife she can't drink an ice water sitting at the bar

Are soon parted but lucky to have been together in the first place.
Drinking water is a great idea. Tipping properly is another great idea. The best idea of all is letting your wife drive home after you have had a couple. I want out on this thread because my original thought got turned around. I have nothing against anyone's decision on what to drink when out to eat it is non of my business. It just never occurred to me that anyone would conspire to cut their bill in this way.
I mentioned that when I caddied as a youngster we looked to see if the bag we were carrying had a ball retriever. We knew if we were going to get a nice tip or be stiffed. I was told that some people in TV'S have their ball retriever regripped. They will risk getting bit or attacked to save a golf ball. :1rotfl:
