Have rec'd 2 bills. Seems high. How do we know what is right? We were billed for 1500+ gals of irrigation, but system has been off. Ran once manually 4 zones 10 mins each to check was working. No visible signs of leaking. Also home use was 1980 gals. For 2 people for 1 month. Do take more showers but are quick and more laundry. Does this sound reasonable?

Sounds reasonable for potable water, as for the irrigation, I agree with above, ask for the meter to be read manually and verified.

Call the water company. They will send a tech out and he will confirm whether there is water running with everything turned off, by watching the meter.
They are very willing and very helpful.

Our example, 6 zones, 4@30 mins, 2@10 mins. One day a week. 4000 gallons on bill.

Read your meter each morning to see how much water you are using. After a few days of readings you think are reasonable see how your usage compares to the bill.

You can also turn of the wate to the home and sprinkler system and see that the meter does not move after a few hours.

With water on do not use any water for a few hours and see if the meter moved or not. If it moved you have a leak.

Might add if the leak is on your side of the meter, which it would be if meter moves, it is on you.
