As the construction nears end and the blacktop is being put down you can get an idea of the parking. I can't imagine there will be enough parking spaces there. The gas station takes up 1/3 of the front, the employees need to park. Looks like it will be hard to find a spot in the small parking lot.

This is called a "Walmart - Neighborhood Market" which is a fancy title for a grocery store. These parking lots are not that large and usually have plenty of spots for shoppers.
But I really hope the designers took into consideration, the IS the Villages and there are a L O T of people here!!! :22yikes:

I think it will be a plus. I have learned since moving to The Villages that a lot of people haven't grown up with Walmart and some even have a prejudice against Walmart.
They have huge buying power and often you can find items much less expensive than anywhere. This draws people who have always watched their money and those who must watch their not much money.
Yep. I like Walmart.

I just googled neighborhood Walmarts (what do they look like?) The photos shown---well it's basically the grocery store along with the pharmacy area, not unlike grocery chains. So will give the Publix (for those who want it) a fun for their $$$. I'd heard the Colony Publix will be remodeling starting in October (just in time for the seasonal folks return).

It is far easier to complain then to actually DO something.
Anything you do will have both positive and negative results.
RE: WALMART
They are actually the largest employer in the US. Some here will bitch that Walmart does not pay their people enough. These same people will bitch about long lines to pay at Walmart and lack of PEOPLE willing to help you
As to grocery options. We are three miles from Winn Dixie three miles from Publix and about the same from the,"farmer's market." We shop all three by golf cart.

Speaking of which, here's the biggest problem I have with Walmart (and some other large corporations).

Walmart Workers Cost Taxpayers $6.2 Billion In Public Assistance
Walmart's low-wage workers cost U.S. taxpayers an estimated $6.2 billion in public assistance including food stamps, Medicaid and subsidized housing, according to a report published to coincide with Tax Day, April 15.
While I applaud Walmart's growth into such a large company and provide low prices, I really wished my tax money wasn't needed...helping them do it.

I'm at the Colony Publix at least twice a week. In addition, I go to the pool store weekly for pool water testing. It always amazes me how people complain about the congestion. If people didn't know any better, they'd think it was like downtown Manhattan. I really don't understand how people think the Colony area is too congested, and too difficult to get in and out of. Good grief!

I am at a loss to see where placing the Walmart in Colony or somewhere else produces more money for the developers. In fact how does the developer benefit from a Walmart at all? Doesn't the benefit go to Walmart?
Yes this is a congested area, but congested area equals more people shopping ergo more money for Walmart. I have realized that even though people in The Bubble sometimes think if a decision does not meet their every need, it is because the developer wants more money. Is this a war, because in a war one side does not produce a beautiful, friendly, wonderful place for so many people to live happily. What don't we all just live happily.

The Developer got a few dollars for the land WalMart is sitting on. Likely a long term lease.
I look for most residents to shop at this neighborhood WalMart in their golf carts. Parking will be difficult when it first opens but after that.....,

I joke with my friends and tell them I don't mind living with a lot of other old folks I just hate when they act old. And indeed it does takes effort to remain positive.
However, not all complaints are without merit and not all complaints are because people have too much time on their hands.
I disliked being in long lines when I was a kid in the military and I still do. I disliked congested roads and slow traffic when I was a kid and I still do.............
When I first moved here I was told we were lucky because a Walmart was coming to 466. I replied I prefer it didn't because I didn't want to see 466 become a 441. Look at 466 and its frontage road today
NIMBY is not solely an old age phenomenon .
Now what I have come to believe from being a member on this forum for a few years now is that a sign of old age reflects those posters who continually complain about people's right to complain.
What I have come to believe in life about people who complain about people complaining can be underscored with this old saw DEPENDS ON WHOSE OX IS BEING GORED

Cold, I always respect your opinion but in the spirit of friendly debate are you suggesting that Walmart should not provide ANY jobs to low income people?? A job is a job and the last I checked, no one is being forced to work for Walmart. You should also know that many low income job seekers deliberately gauge how many hours they can work before they lose Federal and State benefits. If you have a concern about wasted tax dollars, that is where I would start.

In reciprocity of having a "friendly" debate, and trying to keep this thread from being shut down due to becoming political, let's just say that I don't see the need to subsidize multi-billion dollar companies...or even whole industries for that matter.
Many folks like to grasp at the false idea/stereotype of the 'Welfare Queen' to justify a lot of things, but the truth of the matter is... that there are millions of the 'working poor.'
And I'll just leave it at that...with my appreciation for your reasonable approach. :ho:

After this post started I left my home in Pine Hills to purchase some gas at the Colony Shell and checked out the very large parking lot that the new Walmart neighborhood market has. After five years in The Villages I still see some cutting The Villages down. This is normal after leaving your home town and moving here among strangers. Sometimes people say to me this is not like Chicago or NYC or Minneapolis but it's our home now and we have to make this work. Please try to put aside your differences and let's try to make this our home away from home. Sometimes we don't understand how people are in different parts of this beautiful country.Sometimes they don't get our jokes (or humor) but it is all in good faith. Sometimes I look around and I wonder how I got to where I am, with great friends and their families playing golf and so full of life that I have never seen or never paid attention to until now in my busy life that I had before I moved here. I agree with Grace. The people run this piece of heaven know their stuff and as my old friend John said "It don't get much better than this"

Additionally, who cares to walk in there in the morning and the counter attendant has a cheap boom box blaring trashy a** rap and as you're leaving she states "have a blessed day". Today was my very last day that I will ever walk through those doors; until the new Wal-Mart opens, I will go out of my way and drive to the Marathon on the other end of 466a to fuel the cart up.

I will point out that there is a Circle K Shell due east on 446A/Miller. Only another mile and a half away toward 441 and gas is always 10 cents less than Colony.

Walmart beats the price on many items compared to other stores. However, those who have a prejudice regarding Walmart, probably have a well-founded prejudice.
There is a huge difference between a Walmart Super Store and a Walmart Neighborhood Market, other than the size of the store.
Walmart Neighborhood stores are traditionally, much more expensive than the Super Stores. My guess is to be prepared for these stores to be on a parallel with Publix, price-wise.

Well in my humble view if they did they would have built bike trails that were designed solely for bike riders. The MMP would not be MMP's because only golf carts would be allowed. Pedestrians would have nature trails.
Growth would have been better managed because all overbuilding does is over crowd and over crowding causes congested roads, businesses, etc, and critter over populations. Home price ranges would not be so far extended. It would have truly been a gated community. It would have had a Homeowner Association that had some real decision making power...well that is an iffy issue.:D
People who seem hell bent on defending TV also seem hell bent on defending the Developer, and they appear to do so in a tone and manner of taking the high moral ground I don't believe either has to be defended as both speak for themselves.
My view is that of a consumer, tax payer, amenity fees payer and my focus with the Developer et al is transactional because its all about business and business is business and sentimentality results in poor negotiations.
Indeed this is a decent place not the worse not the best
and I do my part with the people I know to make it pleasant. Again this is an observation, an opinion and not a complaint.

I remember reading that this store will offer a service where you can order and pay for your groceries on line, drive to the store, and they will load your purchase into your car. I think that a lot of people will be ordering online and getting there groceries delivered to their vehicle. The is a large awning to drive under. I think, but not sure that when you order on your mobile device that you can set up your app so the store know when you pull into their lot. The best thing is NO FEES for this service. Plus, saving you a lot of time.

I can't speak for how they will deliver online orders to TV customers, but at other Walmart stores that offer the online shopping/pickup, the orders are delivered directly out the front door.
Since it's all new construction, this new Walmart will probably offer something more convenient.

I have shopped Walmarts in Pompano Beach; Deerfield Beach; Boca Raton; Coconut Creek; Hypoluxo, Florida, in Louisiana, Nevada and probably even more of their stores than that, but these are the ones that quickly come to mind. I have shopped WalMart for many years -- not because I like the store (because I don't!), but because there are certain items I buy on an ongoing basis, and for these items their prices are the lowest.
When I have shopped for the items I usually buy in quantity, I have found their Neighborhood Market to be higher in price than the Supercenter.
The only thing I can say to those who have criticized me for my opinion, is that everyone, including me, will have to play the wait and see game regarding prices at the new store.
I will say without equivocation, that prices throughout Walmart, from one store to another, are not the same on many items. This is a fact.

Walmart's Price Matching Policy (http://help.walmart.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/31/~/walmarts-price-matching-policy)
This is a policy for matching prices at online retailers not other brick and mortar store retailers.
From the link:
"So if you find a lower price from an online retailer on an identical, in-stock product, or the item purchased from Walmart.com is now listed at a lower price, tell us and we'll match it*."
I think it would be difficult to price match the on shelf price of an item that isn't advertised. That info just isn't readily available.
Also from a consumer's point of view price matching isn't all that practical except for expensive items because of the time you have to spend to get a price matched.

We signed up for the Walmart Savings Catcher. You type in your receipt number and if there are any advertised lower prices they give you the difference in the form of a gift card. If their price is lower at a super store they will credit the difference, you don't have to look it up yourself, just trust that they will do it honestly. We have received hundreds of dollars back by using the savings catcher. If you are not familiar with it, do a search and you can read all about it.

How about milk, produce, deli salads, ice cream, perishables, etc? what does it cost to ship a week's worth of other grocery items, bottled water, soda, cat litter, dog food, etc. I'm not sure exactly how the Pantry works but I'm sure their are items you cannot have shipped and extra costs involved for bulky or heavy items.

Must not be familiar with prime this week I ordered two different kinds of Gatorade eight bottles each, 4 kinds of bottled juice, 20 pack of toilet paper, 10 pounds of cat food, box of cat litter, can goods, and 20 other items. Shipping is FREE. It's called pantry because that's the items that you can order right now, however since the purchase of Whole Foods Amazon will be shipping produce cold and frozen items delivering within hours or the same afternoon. Since Alexa tells me if there is something cheaper elsewhere she asks if I want to put that item on hold. So far my average savings is around $200 a month and I don't even have to stand in line. Our meat comes from a butcher and I grow veggies myself. Fruit is the only thing that I pick up and that usually at the farmers market. Saves a ton of time. It's great just open your door and there Is your order

Eggs come from farmers market, use very little dairy, but if we want ice cream I make it. Soon Amazon will deliver anything you buy in a store, frozen or fresh, same day and as many times as I want. I don't need a list, I just tell alexia what I want and she stores it until I tell her to ship.
Coupons are deducted from my order. My UPS guy does heavy lifting for me. There is special inserts so chips do not get crushed. I can order and send grocery items to my parents, dead of winter so they don't have to go out, and have sent items to our Disney hotel for our arrival.
I may go to a grocery once a month, if that. Once you try prime, you wonder why you wasted that much time, going to a store. Every grocery up north at our other home offers a click list to either have it ready When you drive up or deliver to your home.
High season in TV the grocery is crazy, and when I can save time and money it makes my day. The FREE ship with my prime includes anything from books to clothes, and free pick up on returns. It's been at least a year since I shopped at a brick and mortar mall.

There are a number of different Prime services on Amazon. One delivers in just an few hours or so after order... that service is not available here.
Prime Pantry is a different. Certain products are eligible for Prime Pantry... but you have to order a minimum number of items at once (not sure what the number is) and they all get delivered at the same time in a single box, or maybe a few boxes if you order a lot.
It costs Amazon less to ship because they put your entire order together in their warehouse and ship it as a single item. It sort like the way grocery stores used to operate when the did home deliver... but in the Amazon case the grocery store might be a 100 or even a 1000 miles away.

Welcome to the world of gadgets. Container farming is simple little space and no bending over. Potatoes grow under radishes. Ice cream, no brainier pour ingredients in ice cream maker, push start, half way thru add fruit if you like.
We have a calf raised, four of us split, we take hind quarter, as long as you don't go visit and look into those brown eyes it's all good grass feed beef. We get our chicken there also, they package all for freezer. Lasts us a year. I don't one stop shop I just open my front door and poof grocery is done.
Get my first order of cold, and frozen on Sunday, yes it coming on the weekend, and still free ship. As my kids say come out of the 80s no one wastes time shopping when you can be out having fun. Once you go to Amazon Prime it's hard to Go to a brick and mortar.
If Walmart is doing the click list and drive up to pick up, they will be busy, you send the order on the website, tell them what time go to the assigned spot, grocery put in your car, card swiped and off you go. Think about how ugly it gets in high season at grocery store. This will be a gift for villagers

As the construction nears end and the blacktop is being put down you can get an idea of the parking. I can't imagine there will be enough parking spaces there. The gas station takes up 1/3 of the front, the employees need to park. Looks like it will be hard to find a spot in the small parking lot.

You need to look in the Amazon prime it is as my mother says life-changing. I bought them a echo, it's tied to my prime account, as she needs things she says Alexa order dove foam wash soap, and so on. No list or forget something at the store.
My parents get such a kick of of it and they don't have to drive, just open front door 7 days a week and there it is. I have an app that will tell me if item can bought elsewhere for less. Usually its pennies. You can do a month for free, easy directions, free delivery when you buy 5 of certain staples. Think no more lugging cat food, litter, paper towels, and heavy water bottles.
And the box has a cute smile on it:wave:

More traffic for an already congested area. What were they thinking? How silly of me more money for the developer
I have been watching this section since the executive courses opened at Pine Ridge. As construction continued I began wondering what the line of traffic was going to be like entering the Pine Ridge gate, given that both cars and carts have to merge.
I know that the traffic coming off 466 to cross to Buena Vista via Belvedere created a back up at the Belevedere Gate quite annoying especially if you are a cart attempting to merge from the cart path
As to Walmart we are equal opportunity shoppers focused on a balance of price-value (utility for our $) so we shop all stores

Yep in the villages and up north house and send to my parents. I donât even have to make a list. Alexia keeps my lists separated free ship, one and done. Our meat comes from splitting a cow. Most Fresh veggies from my container gardens.
my parents love this, who are mid 80s. If you stop in most of our local grocery stores you will see a lot of shoppers but they have an extremely large cart in front of them and are shopping for at least 12 people at a time. Some of the groceries are shipped out within two hours and some prefer to pick it up. I canât imagine wasting a couple hours to grocery shop for cans or paper products when somebody else can do it for me. After all doesnât take rocket science to pick up probably 80% of your groceries itâs just time out of your life you donât need to spend. At first my parents said it was a younger generation since all of my kids shop online for their groceries but now that they have been acclimated to online grocery theyâll never go back to driving to a store.

The vast majority of grocery shopping still takes place in traditional brick-and mortar stores. But according to industry experts, this pattern may change during the next decades. More and more tech-savvy retailers now offer grocery delivery options for their customers in the United States. Like the milk man used to do in the past, retailers bring food items right to your doorstep. As of 2016, some 5 percent of U.S. consumers preferred shopping for groceries online. In total, U.S. online grocery sales amounted to about 7 billion U.S. dollars in 2015 and are expected to rise to 18 billion U.S. dollars by 2020.

Do you know anyone under the age of 70? I bet people who know how to use the internet, Alexa, Blue Apron, Google Express, and just about any big box store app order online...I don't know many people who shop in grocery stores!
Sent from my SM-N920R4 using Tapatalk
I know lots of people under 70. Interesting folks too, some very successful and busy and they all go to the grocery store. Now they may buy more pre prepared foods than they used to.
I am interested in the statistics between online grocery shoppers and cart pushers. I may be surprised.
Not exactly what I was searching for but interesting. Grocery shopping by income;
⢠Grocery shopping: U.S. households' frequency by income 2017 | Survey (https://www.statista.com/statistics/272866/grocery-shopping-frequency-of-us-households-by-income/)
I shop for many other items much more frequently online than going to brick and mortar stores.

Take a look at when you go to the grocery store 80% of what you pick up doesnât take much thought process. It might just be the younger generation doesnât want to waste time but reality is there a lot of people online grocery shopping you just donât realize it
I will agree there are people shopping for groceries on-line but 80% is way out of line. We spend our summer in a city a bit larger than The Villages with a large number of young adults. I see many of them in the grocery shopping just like my wife and me. Many are shopping for bargains on a limited budget.
When you shop on line, have your food delivered or pick it up at the grocery you pay for that service. How many can afford it? How many visit the food pantries every week? How many have incomes low enough to still qualify for food stamps? Are they getting groceries delivered to them?
Bottom line 80% in my humble opinion isn't close to the correct number. Sorry we are off the Thread subject.

I guess we think they put in online capability just because....I suggest there is a marketing department that does the market research on this stuff and they must believe there is a market here for that service. Not everyone that shops in the stores here live here.....most actually work here. Publix has an online service, though currently limited, but you can go online, order and pickup in the store. Deli stuff, party platters etc are available online. Then of course, as mentioned before Blue Apron serves a wide market, we have friends here that use that service and of course, the giant in the room, Amazon is building that side of their business. It may not suit us, we may not trust it, we may not have the capability.....but there is a market out there and it must be lucrative because there are a lot of heavy hitters entering.

I don't know one person that orders groceries online and no one I've talked to knows anyone that orders groceries online. Maybe someone saw a movie about someone ordering online and it's now etched in their mind that it's reality. 80%, I don't think so.

I digress from the OP but to reply to this...
I enjoyed as a young person all the individual mom and pop shops for their variety. Now wherever you go it's the same old Walmart or same stores in strip mall with whatever the few buyers chose by comparison. Some prices were higher and it was surprising how some shops bought style goods in for reasonable prices. I liked the choices. With more individuals in small businesses, the little guy had mores chances to make a decent living rather than a few at the top and the majority near minimum wage. IMHO, we were better off even with perhaps paying a little more. Yes there were pros AND cons but I truly believe this.

This is really interesting and I would like to see you expand what you know about doing this, i.e. what website, how do you order, how do you know sizes to order etc. etc. My interest in this is due to the burgeoning interest in people "Aging in Place" which is a fast growing network of people living right here in TV., as well as across the country. The more we know about online living and ordering, the more it will help people who have no intention of leaving their homes until they have to do so.
Your input and information could be invaluable to people who cannot get to the store, but that still remain in their home!

I order International foods on line, but for me it is to get foods that I cannot get locally. It is also expensive. The shipping is a killer and the only way to get around shipping is to order a large amount of items. I shop with two places that will give you free shipping over $100 in purchases. For the items I buy in bulk and freeze, I am prepared to pay, but for average grocery items I still shop my stores.
I think income, time and lifestyle would have an impact on ordering on line from a normal local market.

My uncle owned just such a grocery store and I helped there from time to time as a kid. He worked long, long hours and carried many people on credit and didn't make himself rich for sure.
That said, I like to shop in large grocery stores. I love seeing the availability of foods unknown to me and I love trying new things. It gives me ideas and inspires me. I love satisfying my capricious hunger for foods not in season where I live, but I miss having meat and poultry cut for my needs with little fuss.

When Robert and I were in Paris years ago, our hotel on Rue Monge had one of those tiny balconies overlooking the street. From our room I could look up and down the block and see the green grocer, the charcuterie shop, the baker, the fish monger, the meat man, the wine shop and the cheese shop.
I loved going to all of them. The cheese shop, in fact, would ask what kind of wine we were having and then recommend one or two excellent choices to be eaten today--and certainly no later than tomorrow. In Winthrop, outside Boston, three Greek brothers ran a butcher shop a block from our house. I would go in and say, "What am I having for dinner today?" I miss these things.

Gracie, dear, you just reminded of shopping with my Polish grandmother. The was a poultry shop on our street. She would go in, point at a chicken, and it was plucked and slaughtered on the spot. I was six or seven at the time and was horrified. :) Darn good chickens, though.
This is also the grandmother who would choose a roast at the A&P, then take it to the deli where she had the string removed, and the roast re-weighed.

Not a space to be had for three spins around the parking lots! Finally snagged one and set out to get turkey thighs, lamb steaks, and baby tomatoes. No lamb at all and no turkey thighs, though they had other turkey parts (including feet!!!). The tomatoes were the same price as at Publix. Oh well.

Up early and went over about 8am.

We stopped in today just to see what it was like. It was mobbed. The store was bigger than I expected with mostly the same categories as any grocery store, just less selection. I was expecting more specialty items (although I did find a tiny pie for one person that I had to have....about a quarter of one of the small pies at Publix). I might stop in to pick up something quick.

Went at about 3:00. I knew the lot would be mobbed, so I took a space that opened as I drove in--farthest from the store.
MUCH smaller than I expected. Fewer selections. Produce looked quite good and did seem less expensive. Four cashiers only(!), but about ten self check-outs. Some stuff cheaper than Publix, some about the same. English muffins cheaper, but not as cheap as Publix BOGO.
Next time, I'll take a pad and pen. I can only keep two prices at a time in my head.

Aside from hating the smell of Walmart inside (never noticed), I agree with you. They were even taken to court because they sold at a loss when going into a new neighborhood in order to drive the competition out. They ran so many mom 'n pops out of business and changed small-town America's landscape for the worse. It's a part of corporate greed that really gets my goat.
Corporate greed is why unions got started. But that's off topic...

I really don't need an insulated mug. BUT
I am having some envy of all of Helene's coffee cups with kitty pictures on them. I get a plain one every time. But she and Sweetie still bring me my coffee. I shouldn't complain.

I decided that today was the day to check out the Neighborhood Market. It was about 11:00 and the parking lot was full.....as expected. When the store was being built, I thought the parking lot would not be sufficient enough for all of the people to park....I was right. Luckily, as I was going down a row, a car was leaving, thus providing a space for me to park. My first impression was good. I liked the produce area a lot. As I continued to shop for a few items, I became very disappointed. There is a very small selection to choose from and then isles are small!! I was looking for a particular tomato sauce that I use to make spaghetti with and they don't carry it. I was also looking for a particular brand of club soda in a 12 pack....no gots. So, I came to the conclusion that this Neighborhood Market that I was so looking forward doing some serious grocery shopping in was only good for picking up a few things here and there. Oh well....I guess I'll have to keep shopping a the regular Walmart for my large shopping trips. đđ

Two that WON'T be clogging up the parking lot. There is always a positive side if you look for it.

Went there for first time. Parking ample. Not that impressed with the store. When all the "migratory humanoids" are here it will be very crowded. Should take some pressure off Publix. Gas station should put pressure on the Shell. Liquor store ok but not much stock as yet. If you are looking for variety you would not go there. Frozen foods section mostly imported stuff with very high sodium. I would not buy. Produce ok but normal Walmart stuff.

Went 1PM today.
- parking lot more than adequate - many open spots, well laid out
- inside of store is almost 1/2 larger than expected - everything all stocked and lots of employees
- aisles wide, brightly lit, easy to navigate
- produce/deli/grocery/frozen etc seems to be just as much avail as a normal WM store.
- Gas pumps were 1/2 full - BTW $2.44 & 2.59, same price we saw at Colony Shell.
- the online order service in effect soon. The had $10 disc coupons to try.
Took pics, and a WM corp/mgr type told me this is the latest prototype of the USA Neighb WM and the largest... some pics taken>
I went a checked it out on Saturday. We had a Walmart neighborhood market near us in Utah. It wasnât my favorite store but convenient with low prices.
I was surprised that this one is so small. Equally surprised that the Mngr told you it was one of the largest of the new prototype. The one near us in Utah was as large as Publix. But it was a much older store, so Iâm sure they have revamped the plans several times since then.
Itâs very conveniently located for us, nice not to have to get out on 466A!!
That will be extra nice when the population soars!!

In Gracie's defense--and she and others know I'm not a Gracie sycophant--you frequently post mostly negative comments on TOTV. Comes across as a person negative about TV, with few if any positive comments.
Some of us get our hackles up against people who constantly complain. We acknowledge that TV is not perfect but don't care to run every single thing into the ground. Sometimes it makes us respond with maybe what you should hear from an opposing view?

Perhaps my expectations are higher than others??? When they said that the Neighborhood Market was going to be a Walmart with just food, I'm thinking great! I expected it to be much like the other Walmart minus the other stuff. When I walk in a building that appears to be much smaller, isles narrow and choice limited I was let down. Am I happy it's here...heck yes but it will not serve the purpose I had expected it to serve.
As for my other negative comments, when I go into stores here and compare them with the same stores in different cities, we have the short end of the stick. They seem to build smaller versions of stores here. We have a growing population and are already overwhelmed with people in the winter. It just seems that the buildings are not sufficient for our growth. It's disappointing.
There's plenty I love about where I live and wouldn't change it. However, when I see things falling short, I voice my opinion. Everyone has an opinion. It's nobody's job to chastise me for doing so.

The wife and I checked out the new store the other day and came away largely unimpressed. It was smaller than Neighborhood Wal-Marts we'd seen in North Carolina and the parking is kind of limited. I guess we prefer the greater selection we get at Publix or Winn Dixie. The prices may be better (I didn't really see any prices that knocked me out) but I'd rather go where I know I can get the specific products I want. The peanut butter chocolate chunk cookies we got were pretty good though.

Since several posters have mentioned the size of the new Walmart Market. I looked it up, and here are the sizes for comparison of stores in the southern area.
Walmart (New) 41,000 sf
Publix Traverse 46,000 sf
Publix Colony 54,340 sf
Publix Deaton 54,000 sf
I liked the new store. It should save us the 9 mile trip each way to the Wedgewood Lane store. Most of the stuff looked for on Saturday they had. They didn't have any real sponges, they had about 6 different sponges with rough sides for scrubbing, but nothing for wiping a counter. The Walmart Sherbet they had Rainbow and Orange, they didn't have the biggest seller Raspberry. I also didn't see any of the really good bakery pies, I had just picked up one last week lemon Meringue from Wedgewood store and it was great and only cost $4.98. I figured they'll be getting more items as the store settles in.

We went Sunday for the second time, just to check out the Liquor Store. Prices didn't impress me. We did pick up a couple bottles of wine. One of them had a $1 discount hanger on it. The clerk did not know how to process the hanger through the cash register. She said she hadn't gotten a lot of training (seems strange since they only assign one employee to the store). She ended up giving us $1 out of her purse saying she was sure they would reimburse her....I sure hope so.

Today, I visited the neighborhood Walmart. It was clean and well stocked. The parking situation wasn't bad at all. I breezed through the checkout in a few minutes. There were plenty of customers but not mobbed. I say it's an excellent addition to the area.

We make an early trip to the neighborhood Walmart yesterday. Crowd was light at 9:00 am in the morning. Mrs. Jim was not impressed with the store and she said prices were higher than what we paid for same in Illinois this summer. I was impressed with the gas station (price too) so filled the tank as we left for the Village of LaBelle. Although not a big fan of Walmart, perhaps we will give it another try. Publix is also close by âwhere shopping is a pleasureâ.

Now that the Neighborhood Market has been open a while, have any of the shoppers on TOTV conducted a price comparison with a Supercenter?
Walmart beats the price on many items compared to other stores. However, those who have a prejudice regarding Walmart, probably have a well-founded prejudice.
There is a huge difference between a Walmart Super Store and a Walmart Neighborhood Market, other than the size of the store.
Walmart Neighborhood stores are traditionally, much more expensive than the Super Stores. My guess is to be prepared for these stores to be on a parallel with Publix, price-wise.
I just did a quick search to see if the neighborhood stores are more EXPENSIVE than the superstores. Doesn't seem to bear that out. My wife knows prices, we will see.
Here is another article, this one from Business Insider, that says the prices are the same in Walmart Superstores and Neighborhood Walmarts;
Inside Wal-Mart's Neighborhood Markets - Business Insider (http://www.businessinsider.com/inside-walmarts-neighborhood-markets-2015-7)
To those posters who have supplied articles, comments and questions regarding the price comparisons between the WalMart Supercenters and Neighborhood Markets, I can only say my comments are from my own experience.

Sales tax in Schaumburg, IL (northwest suburb of Chicago): 10%.
This is the total of state, county and city sales tax rates. The Illinois state sales tax rate is currently 6.25%. The Cook County sales tax rate is 1.75%.
Sales tax in Sumter County, FL: The combined sales tax rate for Sumter County, FL is 7%. This is the total of state and county sales tax rates. The Florida state sales tax rate is currently 6%. The Sumter County sales tax rate is 1%.
Interesting to learn more about price comparison between the larger Walmart stores and the neighborhood Walmart stores.
Do the larger Walmart stores have the same prices throughout the country?

I think from what Mrs. R said, they do not have the same prices throughout the country. But then, neither do the other grocery stores have the same prices everywhere. General costs like rent, fuel, warehousing, wages, etc., are not the same everywhere.
Other than Walmart, supplier competition would factor in. The grocery prices, for instance, we're much higher in West MI than they were in NJ and Pittsburgh because for the most part there were only two suppliers supplying all the grocery chains in that area. Very little competition.

I agree prices are not the same up north in different stores in the same chain depending on what ZIP Code they have. The only thing stays the same is the sale price in the flyers.
