Houston Evacuations.

I have been to Texas many times. Mainly either driving through on the way to Florida or to Nevada at times of family moves or on job interviews.

One of these was to Houston for the downtown library in 1985 or so. I recall what a nice library that was and how good the barbecue in one of this restaurants was that was downtown Houston.

My prayers go out to the people under threat of Harvey and its aftermath.

Been to El Paso, Dallas-Ft. Worth, and Sam Antonio as well either in family moves or library interviews. And for a American Library Association convention around the Summer of 1984.

My former employer's corporate headquarters are in Houston. I had to go to Houston quite a few times from 2001 to 2015. One trip I made about 10 years ago, Houston had just a few hours of heavy rain, and I couldn't get from the hotel to the corporate office 2 miles away because Old Spanish Trail was completely under water right by the corporate office.

I just got a message on Facebook from one of my former coworkers who lives in Friendswood, a suburb of Houston. She said the road conditions are very bad in her area.

I am live streaming a Houston TV station (KHOU). The meteorologist said the Houston area will be getting between 10 and 16 more inches of rain between now and Thursday.

What a mess...keep the people of Southeast Texas in your thoughts and prayers.

We are pretty safe here. This is where the people on either FL coast (Gulf or East) will come if they have a hurricane. You do have to worry about the tornadoes though.

I have heard that they die out within about 50 miles inland.

I was going to make it to TV this week on my journey to live there. That will not happen. I am up tonight to watch the water rise and hope the house is safe. Two of my friends were in a water rescue this afternoon. At least we have water and electric, and the water has not come up to the doors yet. We have had over 23 inches of rain in my area and as I write this, the rain is still beating down. I look forward to moving, but just need to get through this flood. Hope to meet you soon!

For those of you who are capable, please make a donation to the American Red Cross. You can ask that it specifically be used for the Hurricane Harvey rescue and recovery operations. IMO, this is the best way for us to help those being impacted by this catastrophic event.

This tragedy appears to be so extensive that literally thousands of people may only have FEMA trailers to return to. The possessions and memories of a lifetime have disappeared with the rising waters.

Cajun Navy is enroute or already there in Houston to assist in boat rescues. The call was made on FB social media yesterday. This consists of a citizens flotilla of LA boaters that are there to help their fellow man. The "help me" remarks on FB from some are heartbreaking. You tell them to have patience, help is on the way....how are many to know when they have no utility services available?

Many on here have been through disasters including me & would love to help. NVOAD.org is a list of organizations. These folks will need all essentials to sustain life. Your efforts are best applied by the locals that are there.

My Dad was the catastrophe manager for a major insurance company for much of the ten years they lived in Rohnert Park, CA. He handled a lot of disasters like the one occurring in Houston. Namely Andrew here in Florida and some in Hawaii and CA.

My heart goes out to these people. I cannot donate platelets until late September but donating blood, platelets, plasma, or red blood cells are one way we can help these people. The people in Houston who usually donate have no buses or blood collection centers to get to in many of these areas affected by the hurricane and its rain.
