Wife and I have recently noted some price comparisons between the local Walgreens stores and Publix for items that both stores sell. I have found as much as twice the price at Walgreens for certain items. Examples are batteries and some over the counter drug items. I believe Walgreens knows they have a captive buying group for their pharmacy and they take advantage with other items. I am no longer shopping at any Walgreens store. I suggest you compare yourself.

I totally agree!!
Arn't we fed up with being taken advantage of for so long?
I put Publix in the same catagory!!
They should feel so blessed to have such a loyal and captive audience. But instead of given us fair prices, we get taken advantage of everyday!
Even there two for one deals are a farce!
Walmart!! Listen Up!!
Soon, you will have an opportunity
to show all The Villagers just how long and how much we have been taken
advantage of since you arrived on the scene!!

Walgreens can sell whatever they want at whatever price they want. We DO have choices. Here's a big one.

I bet I could cherry pick some items from Publix that cost much more than the same item at Walgreens, plus Walgreens gives me a 15% Military discount every day. I do appreciate your telling WalMart to listen up. I think all the Waltons are members here so we can expect stellar results.

I assume both. I am retired. They used to give the discount on Tuesday, but now they give it every day.

Overall, Publix has the highest prices of all of the supermarkets in the southeast. They are also the biggest in terms of sales.

The reason is quality, selection, and service. I see a world of difference when I go into Winn Dixie, or Wal-Mart or Walgreens compared to Publix.

Publix is cleaner, well lit, has greater selection and incredibly helpful employees.

I honestly don't mind paying the small difference in price to shop at Publix. I don't intend to spend my life running from one store to another to save twelve cents on an item. I don't have a lot of money, but I just don't see that much of a difference in price between all of the various food stores. If you want the cheapest, go to Aldi.

You are the person in charge of your personal finance destiny. My wife has from day one when we began our marital journey dedicated time to peruse the advertisements and then listed what she needed and at what store offered the best price for that item. it takes practice, it takes advanced planning and it takes patience.

If you don't or can't to, or don't believe that pre-planning before you purchase is worth your time and/or that it is only saving pennies then you have made the right choice for you.

For people like the Mrs. the market is made by a willingly seller and a willingly buyer both having an understanding of that market. she likes kicking the tires.

A store any store is going to charge what the traffic will bear. Its the basis of capitalism

Walgreens is convenient for my prescriptions and Publix for groceries. I'm not a fan of Walmart especially their grocery. I'm not sure what kind of dollar value you put on convenience or service but Walgreens and Publix have convenience and service here in The Villages. They get my vote (business).

We just started using OptumRX for our prescriptions. Wow! Big savings over Walgreens, and the refills magically appear in our mailbox. No more waiting in lines at Walgreens! I wasn't sure I could deal with another winter of long lines and refill delays. 2 of my 4 meds are free at Optum Rx. One of those is a migraine med that I paid $60 for at Walgreens. I am thrilled!

I can't wait for the Wal-Mart to open in the Colony area. All of these people complaining about Publix and wanting the Wal-Mart Grocery will be out of my way while I am shopping at Publix. The second reason is all of these Wal-Mart shoppers are going to be moaning about traffic and parking at the new store. We can all laugh and say "you asked for it..... "

Can someone please explain how we (whomever "we" is?) are a captive buying group? No one is forced to shop anywhere. For those that have limited mobility, there are many online stores that sell anything anyone could need. Different people have different reasons for purchasing items at any number of locations, whether they are brick and mortar or online. For me it is usually convenience. For someone else it could be price, for others it could be a combination of these or any number of other factors. Some like Wal-mart, some don't. Some like Publix, some don't, etc. I don't have the answers, just wondering what makes us (Villagers, I am presuming) a captive buying group?

Aldi's is supposed to be in the Trailwinds Village development on 466A just west of Buena Vista (same development as where Lowes is being built). Don't know when Aldi's will open, but it is shown on the web site of Barclay Group, the developer of Trailwinds Village.
