Just heard on radio news - OIA will cease operations at 5pm Saturday due to Irma.
Shoot - my significant other was to fly back from WA state, ETA into OIA Sunday at 5am. She's been there 3 weeks - but unless Alaska Air can accommodate that will be extended. We had a lot going on next week, but those plans may need to change now.
On another point - went out to get the paper on the driveway at 5:30 (couldn't sleep...) and the eastern sky, still dark, was spectacular. Venus, low in the horizon...so large and bright. And easily see stars and constellations east as well. And full moon in the west. Guess this was the 'calm before the storm'.
Hunker down folks and stay safe - glad TV is located where we are, rather than south or east coastal FL...

From News 6 and ClickOrlando.com:
ORLANDO, Fla. - Orlando International Airport officials said Thursday that the last pre-Hurricane Irma flight will leave from the airport at 5 p.m. Saturday.
I flew out of Orlando Thursday afternoon - long line at Thrifty to return the rental car. The security line was moving, but it still took almost 40 minutes to go through security. Change of planes in Charlotte. Walked through my home's front door at 1:00 a.m. today.

Thank you, Tal. My cat Molly gave me a high five when I arrived home. Then she wanted some food. :)

Cats have priorities. I will have to see how Beau weathers Irma. I may have some more late nights. Beau is a chihuahua/terrier mix who is taking up most of my bed right now. He always has bedsheets to conquer it seems like. Stretches out like some cats to take up as much space as possible.

Schaumburger, glad you decided to go ahead and leave early. That was likely a good decision. Best Regards, Jim

Have heard on News reports that most airlines have been accommodating.
Another data point; Phyllis was originally scheduled to fly back from Seattle ETA Sunday @ 5am. Of course OIA would have long been shut down - she would have have to stay in WA even longer. Who knows when she could have resched a return...
I suggested she call Alaska Air Wednesday to see what options she had - and they were able to rebook her. Not as her orginal Seatt<>Orl non-stop, but Seatt<>LAX>>Orl, thru their partner Amer Airlines. No extra$$ or change fee. ETA 5AM tomorrow - BEFORE MCO will shut down.
Considering the early arrival originally I was going to drive and pick her up at MCO. But now - considering the traffic on the Turnpike, she arranged the TV Shuttle and I will get her from Brownwood.
Now hopefully she/we will ride it thru with Irma - if she turns out to be like Dorothy in Wizard of Oz I will never hear the end of it.
