can not believe the villages is shut down, stores are not reopening, yet, Open Houses are still being held today...
Seems you have to stay off the paths for only some things.... does not seem safe to me.

But you would be OK with other forms of commerce resuming normal activities?

I seen no issue with this at all. Get back to business as soon as possible.

Did anyone go to the movies Saturday, Sunday or Monday? In the newspaper on Saturday and on the late arriving paper yesterday, they had big letters across the photos of the live entertainment "Cancelled" at each square. Yet, next to that were the movies now playing at the three theaters and nowhere did it say they would be closed. In fact they had the box office hours listed as if they were normal operation.

If it were my home, I would expect to sell it as soon as possible. With TV people cleaning up their yards and prospective Villagers maybe evacuated, I don't know who would go to an Open House right now, but I would expect my realtor to be as aggressive as possible in selling my home. I have seen quite a few people out and about despite the "stay off the roads" request.

heard from another source, the radio, that TV did the right thing and canceled the open houses. thanks goodness... after the photos I saw in the newspaper, can't imagine the issues that might have occured. many of the new home area we drove thru yesterday had no power and there a sink hole forming in the road. not safe..

When they say "open house", are they implying the roof blew off?

You never know when the buyer might walk into an Open House. If my broker wanted an Open House......it would be cool by me. It's for sale, sell it!!!

Back when we were looking for "the place to retire" we checked out locations in both North Carolina and South Carolina from Southport to Charleston. it runs along Highway 17. We were advised if we wanted to buy their perhaps it would be wise to visit when 5 days of rain were predicted because the area is a flood plain.
Perhaps for the benefit of buyers to TV this would be a good time to visit and to get a realistic look what might occur along with the kool aid Lifeystyle visit? just saying

I Agree and they didn't cancel in time.

I also agree that prospective buyers ought to visit now. My take on it is to witness how great The Villages is when faced with an emergency. How quickly roads are cleaned up, power is restored, downed trees are removed, etc., etc., etc. Now don't get me wrong, I don't agree with certain decisions that have been made by The Villages, i.e., health insurance, but as far as emergencies it doesn't get better or expedited quicker. Come on down, or up, and spend some time with us, especially NOW.

Just a thought....
Thank goodness this is one of the small things to complain about.
Imagine if Irma would have come in here as a category 3. I bet then there would be many "big" things to complain about.
So happy she lost strength and came in as a category 1. It could have been complete devastation here!!!
The point... let's just be happy all is pretty good here and everyone can get back to work and we can get out of the house. I'm so ready!! :crap2:

I am disgusted but not surprised about the things people find to bitch about.
And joyful about the things others find to celebrate.
The glass is full and flooded with good things to be happy about on this day of our lives.

You complain about open houses being unsafe for people to get to them. Yet, you were out driving around yesterday???

When people work it is a good thing. Work and lack of laziness are excellent things.
Open houses sell houses and keep bread on the table for a lot of souls.

The main reason we decided to retire in central Florida is because hurricanes usually lose strength and are never at full strength when they arrive here. It would be next to impossible to have a Cat 4 or 5 ravage central Florida in our location.
Having said that......tornadoes are a different animal. They can cause much destruction here such as the tornado of 2007 that ripped through Caroline and Mallory.

Yes, "usually" lose strength. No guarantees.
I didn't say a category 4 or 5, however it could have easily been a 2 or 3 and that could have been devastating!! Then add to that the spinning off of tornados.
