What I don't get is the constant complaining about things that have absolutely zero effect on the complainer.
Complain about people eating out instead of eating their hurricane stash, complain about people who travel faster than you in a golf cart, complain about The Villages not opening shelters (when you have no idea of government protocol for doing such)...
If something I do irritates you but has zero repercussions on YOU, then shut up and mind your own business. Stop worrying about what "could happen" and worry about yourself.

And many people are complaining regarding some real issues, or haven't you read about them?
Tree problems and roof issues . . . Roof issues where people have leaks and can't get anyone to do anything for weeks.
Perhaps those of you who were lucky, should just remain silent.

Having our home flattened or flooded is the reason I will never live near the ocean or any body of water for that matter. It is very risky to have that gorgeous ocean view.

Have been reading about them...but they need to call someone that can help...like their insurance company. Right now there are greater needs, sadly, though when we have an issue, no matter what, it can seem horrific. All I'm hoping for is for everyone to put things in perspective. They are alive, they have shelter, some have power, some don't. Many of us who grew up dealing with hurricanes know and recognize that clean up and utility restoration takes time. We have absolutely no idea what is damaged, where and when crews can get in to remedy the situation. Alas, outages are triaged I believe....and the greater need is handled first. Probably the same for roof leaks. Will pray for no rain....quite a change from what we normally might have to do. It can't hurt and it might help.
And that's my opinion....:)

I wonder how hardened the infrastructure is that a weak Cat1 cause so much havoc.
I did not realize that the purpose of the golf courses was to protect the houses....
So the golf courses are secondary?
Then should property owners who are protected by golf courses have a higher CDD amenity fee?
Or do all properties in TV drain into the courses?
I've only been a resident here 3 weeks and only played golf twice...

Wasn't that much havoc here in TV compared to areas out south and east of us. We dodged a major bullet by it shifting to the east slightly. The ponds/golf courses were designed to take the water they did and keep the homes from having water in them (pretty good planning, I'd say). Doesn't make the courses secondary; can you imagine the amount of BITCHING if the courses had been dry and the homes flooded? All properties typically drain to a street which eventually drain into the retention ponds/environmental areas (some on golf courses, some not), so no, golf course property owners shouldn't be required to pay a higher amenity fee. In your 3 weeks here, you've probably been busy, take some time off to play - once the courses get dry. Welcome.........

My thoughts exactly....perhaps some of those folks need to start making a grateful list for each day.
1. I woke up
2. I'm blessed to live in this country
3 I'm blessed to have what I have
4. Grateful for the people in my life
You could make it as long as you want and do it each day then maybe you won't complain and find LIFE to be so negative!

Amazes me to we bought in a great place, most everything we need is a golf cart ride away, the grounds are well taken care of. Yet a storm hits there's no shelter, the yard waste isn't picked up yet, I Can't play golf, they put a surcharge on my water, the food at the restaurants stinks, they raised the price of drinks at happy hour, I Can't get gas geez. I'll bet the people that lost everything , still don't have electric, don't know where their next meal is coming from etc. Would be more then happy to trade places with us. I think anyone who's so upset and unhappy with the way this place is run or managed should look else where as I'm quite sure you could sell your house real quick. I count my self lucky as he'll. Lost a few shingles a few br-anches off my Palm tree,-and had to clean up the yar1d and the lanai. Gee -what a bitch.

When faced with a problem, think solutions. It stops complaints. If needed, ask for solutions, that is not complaining.
There is a great book that teaches you how. So many people just say "Stop it" but this book, "Letting go of ego", shows you how. (And yes, this is my field...a major one anyway).

The pond behind us was up by about 10 feet, looks to be about an acre size. Right now it looks to be down by about 4 feet maybe five. The developer really planned well for this kind of devastation for the ponds and golf courses to take the hit of the impact of such a major storm. We are so lucky that we don't have that 10 feet of water in our house. It's inconvenient because the groceries are not fully stocked, wait a little bit to get gas, however it could have been a lot worse there could've been a tornado spinoffs and much more devastation. No matter where you live you're going to get some weather related issues.

THEN there's the story of the 8000 feet of copper wire that was stolen which further slows down the progress. That person is beyond selfish. If you're on the other local social media sites you'll read the heart breaking stories of folk who are stepping up and helping their neighbors. Of course, there too, there are the complainers as well but I think they're everywhere. Some of it is we've gotten so used to the comforts we are used to and take for granted.

It is a week tonight since we had the widest Hurricane in the history of record keeping.. It felled huge oaks and caused a lot of damage with it's wind. I think that in three weeks most repair expectations will be met here in The Villages and things will be repaired, and no one ever will say, gee the women in Warranty tried hard or the people worked day and night to get the lights back on or it wasn't so foolish to have all the sprinklers on and the golf courses flooded instead of the homes. YES. There are valid things to bitch about but it seems like no one keeps in perspective that we are all still alive and the damage is far less than most of us expected. No people were injured, no windows blew out, no roofs blew off. Modular homes have a different set of expectations sadly, and they were harmed. But like Governor Scott kept saying, you can fix structures but you can't restore a person's life.

There may be some areas of the golf courses where the ground is still soggy, however it has nothing to do with good planning.
The courses were strewn with all kinds of debris that must be cleaned up before they are anywhere close to any kind of shape to be played upon.

What are we suppose to complain about, we had no damages to speak of. We ought to be counting our blessing that we don't have to complain about losing a house. Now if we didn't have any Ins. & we had 10's of thousands of dollars in damages we would have something to complain about. Someone above must of been looking down on us!
Well, ladies and gentlemen, it's been a week and we are all alive and hopefully, getting back to normal. Cleanup continues...saw a couple of those large trucks with a crane picking up debris along Morse, water is starting to recede and the grocery stores are restocking. Judging from some of the photos I've seen, some of the golf course flooding has come incredibly close to some of the golf course houses.
Gracie made the following quote on a different thread.
I've never heard this and cannot verify its validity:
"The Villages have a unique plan for handling excessive rain fall and will turn on sprinklers area wide to drain the retaining ponds to make them lower ahead of a storm.
