The purpose of this thread is to provide reviews of your specific insurance--the good, the bad, the ugly.
We are thinking of switching to State Farm despite the fact that they are significantly more expensive that our current policy. This thread isn't to compare price, necessarily, but service.
I'll start. Has anyone who had a claim used State Farm homeowners? Your experience during Irma?
We currently have Cabrelli Coastal purchased through The Villages Insurance. We had no claim. Some others have mentioned that their companies reached out to them with an email/phone call right away. We heard nothing from Cabrelli. This doesn't necessarily mean they wouldn't react appropriately had we had a claim. We just don't know. But, clearly, not warm and fuzzy. They are highly rated. Did anyone with a claim deal with them?
So....please post your homeowners insurance company and your opinions of how they responded when you filed a claim. I think this will help all of us with future insurance decisions.

I'm sorry , I just don't understand.... you're going to leave a highly rated company for a significantly more expensive one because they didn't send you an email? And you had NO CLAIM.
I really am trying to understand your post. But I am

Chubb Insurance.
Been with Chubb for over 20 years.
(Yes, I do price checking)
Their paper is the best in the industry..........both personal lines and business lines.
You don't know how good your paper is until you have a claim..........."15 mins, save 15%", there is a reason.

Sorry but I'm just trying to do some anecdotal research from fellow villagers as to their experiences. Sorry to have confused you. Namaste.

To add more..............their claim services have been great over the years. (1)Lightning strike......came thru the TV cable, jumped to a water line. They replaced a couple TV's, water damage was fixed; (2)Sump pump quit.......$40k of damage. Both times, hassle-free, paid quickly, and paid for "a later damage surprise".

One person's experience, either good or bad is not a valid review. I'm not defending any company.
We have Travelers which is well rated. We've not had any claims so have nothing to add as far as service.
This past hurricane did a lot of damage so everyone is stretched from your insurance, to your lawn mow guy to the villages services.

Right. This is not intended to be a scientific poll--just anecdotal information with the caveat to take it or leave it. To me, first person experiences are valuable. That's all.

I am changing over to a company that offers a sinkhole rider thru the Villages Insurance company. Several hundred more than my current policy but piece of mind... is worth it.
Don't need a lot of hand holding unless a problem strikes and that would be where the Villages Insurance company would fit in

Your sinkhole insurance---just wondering what kind of deductible does it carry?

Sinkhole coverage scares me, a 10% deductible, ie, $250,000 home, $25,000 deductible.

yes a 10% deductible..
It caps the loss when the structure isn't a loss so the "universal" sinkhole insurance kicks it.
Not perfect but it will make me sleep easier
Without the insurance the deductible is 100% unless the house is condemned.

We had State Farm for 25 years up north and about 11 years here in the Villages. Then State Farm cancelled us and said they were not insuring any homes in Florida. They said they would continue to cover our vehicles but not our home. They said it was costing them too much. I told them thank you and cancelled the vehicles also. This was with the agent for them here in The Villages on 466. I would check and see if they insuring homes again, but will I will not trust them again.

Allstate sinkhole deducible is the all perils amount. As low as $500.

Yes. We had ASI for 5 years on our villa in TV. Never had a claim. When we moved to our home this past January, TV Insurance said ASI wouldn't cover us since they already had too many homes covered in our area. I don't know what they meant by "area" and should have questioned it.
They suggested Cabrelli Coastal. We had never heard of them. Cursory internet research showed a high rating and mostly good reviews. We were very busy at the time and probably should have done more research. We went with them based on almost entirely TVI's recommendation.
So far, we've found no one who has personally dealt with Cabrelli Coastal. They're out of Gainesville. They may be the greatest--would just like to hear some ground truth personal experience. I plan to thoroughly question TVI with respect to their experience with CC once things settle down after Irma since the policy will be coming up for renewal. I admit I wasn't a good shopper and didn't do my usual due diligence where this is concerned.
The reason I asked about State Farm is that our vehicles, golf cart, umbrella and condo are with them. I contacted them a few months ago and they gave us a ho quote (high), so they are writing policies in Florida again. It did have sinkhole coverage.

Well this discussion maybe moot at least until the next anniversary dates of policies following the total loss accounting of various companies because companies may well raise rates substantially and/or pull out of the state altogether.
I have been with State Farm for many years . when we moved here 11 years ago State Farm had a moratorium on writing new Homeowner policies and they considered a "transfer in", a new policy.
Because they would not take my homeowners I moved all of my policies to ASI. One year later ASI's premiums went up substantially.
So I called State Farm and found they were writing homeowners again . Since returning to them, State Farm has taken two big premium jumps on Homeowners and in addition added a separate premium charge for sinkhole, and accepted the endorsement only after they inspected my property , a inspection fee they made me pay. my auto rates have been going up every year and I never had an accident?
State Farm is expensive and there are no guarantees. State Farm will honor their claims fairly and fully without a doubt. However will they stay? how much will premiums go up because of Irma? But they are a national company with an excellent reputation
I am a life long insurance guy who studied every aspect of insurance and cannot tell you what Insurance Home Offices are going to do next or what position the governor will take? I can offer an educated guess However, it depends on their bottom line
the good news is that those coastal homes built after 1995 weathered this storm fairly well.
Review your policies look at what you believe you can absorb in losses to your home, personal property and autos. Finally, despite what you have heard or been told insurance is not like gambling. with gambling you pay out and will either have a win or a loss. with insurance you payout and have that invisible commodity called security always and if you do suffer a loss you are paid.
Personal Best Regards:

Always keep in mind that insurance policies are at their best when not " used ". If you need to " use " them you want the best security and claims handling reputation money can buy. We just submitted our first Homeowners claim in forty five years to ASI. Getting through to them to report the claim was quite an ordeal. It was obvious management was sound asleep when it came to being prepared for a Florida Hurricane despite the fact the company specializes in Florida Homeowners insurance. We will not lay eyes on an adjuster until sometime in October. It remains to be determined how the actual adjustment process will proceed and we will withhold final judgement until then.
