View Full Version : Town square music too loud

Does anyone else feel the music in the town squares is too loud? Louder is not better! My husband and I were walking around Sumter Landing last night (and this has occurred at ALL of the town squares) and the music was so loud we had to leave. My husband approached the man in the sound booth and asked why the music was so loud and the man said "I'm sorry, I can't hear you"....my husband said "precisely the issue". We used to enjoy going to the town squares each night, but even when we sit across the street, it's so loud we can't even talk to each other.

Yes it's too loud. Having an audience where many are hearing impaired is no excuse. Make a formal complaint.

It is a conspiracy. I heard from the bartender that this is happening in order to further damage people's hearing and it is paid for by all of the Hearing Aid vendors in TV.

I am not attempting to bash anyone....,but, I like it loud. I sound much better singing to loud music.

We go to the squares at night for dancing and singing.

Last night, and many other times, we sat behind a group of 6 who talked constantly. As the music got louder, so did they. Go talk somewhere else.....my opinion....they were rude.....front row seats holding conversations......I came to hear the music, not you.... (added.....I came to hear music....not your past cruise trip...or your grandkids vacation......)

If I need to to talk to someone, I whisper in there ear.....works for me....

I might gently point out the others at the square most certainly did not go there to hear YOU singing They came perhaps to hear the musicians not YOU. If you need to sing to someone perhaps you should whisper sing in there [sic] ear. Go sing somewhere else unless the actual musicians invite you to join in a sing-along. Perhaps the sound man is cranking it up to obscure your cacophonous intrusion.

Ok, maybe that wasn't gentle and if your post misleadingly lead me to a wrong conclusion that you are one of those people, I'll delete

Sometimes there are so many side conversations going on during a performance that a higher volume is necessary.

You know, people buy a house near an airport..then complain...Buy a house near a pickle ball court, then complain...At least you can walk away, avoid this irritation during loud music time,...and not not ruin it for the majority...

They NEED to play it loud enough to hear over all the "TALKING" going on. Dang, is it really necessary to blab all the time. This time is for the music and dancing.

Go talk in your groups at home, in a restaurant, away from the square from 5-9.

I was in the business and the music must cancel out all the talking going on.

Then there is the "old" factor. I am retired, over 65 and my mother says the car radio is too loud, the TV is too loud, the dishwasher is too loud yet can't hear a word I say.

For me, it has nothing to do with age. I have always hated loud music. I have never gone to live concerts for that reason.

Music is meant to be heard, and felt. The squares are designed for a party, not a conversation pit. If you go to the restuaraunts that provide music that is where they are too loud, I enjoy good conversation at dinner and prefer nice background musid....but not in the squares. As said, different strokes for different folks but keep the squares music going as it is.

Comment: Yes, that is the norm so it seems. Loud means Quality?
We do not do the Squares for that reason. While in the theater, Dunkirk was so loud, the movie, we had Kleenex in our ears. On a recent Cruise, we could not enjoy the night shows or lay by the pool during the day. It is really something to have to endure. Yep, there are those who love it loud. Hearing aids should be a booming business soon, this NOISE at 105 db is not for us. We probably need to be well loaded in order to endure the noise.

I agree.

On another note...The first time I heard Johnny Dee and the Starlights (or whatever their new name is) I thought they were good but their next performances they sounded bad, not sure if it was the sound mix/volume where you could not even hear their backup singers or they are not as good as I thought.

The music must/should be loud enough for the line dancers, etc. And although we don't dance we enjoy the music and the entertainment and fun. I will say I really don't like the music someone brings to the pool and plays it on a radio, etc. were others must listen. That's right up there on the "entitlement meter"

Some things in life are not meant to be low in volume -- a squalling baby, a fighting couple, a jet taking off, a sonic boom, rock music, a happy toddler, a cheering football fan. To complain about those sounds is not just an act of futility but is this side of curmudgeonly. Kick back, relax and go with the flow.

If one's ears are ringing upon leaving a "music" venue, one has lost some hearing due to the high decibels experienced whether it was a pleasurable experience or not. Was it worth it?

I damaged my hearing while doing a lot of shooting when I was young, in the days before they realized that shooting without ear protection permanently damaged your hearing.

At my advanced age, and with my diminished hearing ability, I still hear better than my son who attended Rock Concerts when he was younger.

-------------------

Several years ago I operated the sound board in a 5,000 seat church. One day I was approached by a church member who complemented me on the sound. He said that he could hear everything only on days when I ran the board. That's when I realized that this elderly hard-of-hearing member heard things well because I was running the board too loudly so that I could hear everything.

I'm heading back to TV in early October, and can't wait to get to the squares in the evenings. Loudness has never even been a concern of mine, and fortunately it drowns out my singing also (fortunately for everyone else also). Squares in the evenings and golf during the days (hopefully the courses will all be opened by then) is the reason I bought in TV. Just about every night I can find a good band at one of the squares that I can dance and enjoy. Uncle Bob's Rock Shop at the top of the list, but there are plenty of others.

We tried watching Dunkirk. NOISE, and the movie editing was really poorly done. Anyone with Ship Smarts would see the total discrepancies in the movie. I asked a lady manager, why the noise? She said? "Because of the dialog?
What? We tried Kleenex in our ears. Left early and surely will not be back to that theater. In another town, with the same situation, we talked to the manager and he gave us a refund. What is it with noise these days? Ugh. Note: Your ears have a limit folks!!

What is it with noise these days?

I don't know why everything is so loud these days but I refuse to put up with it. For example, I walked out of our son's wedding reception because the band was too loud. I also walked out of the 50th anniversary of my high school graduation for the same reason.

At Toojays last week, members of the wait staff were talking too loud right behind my seat, so I got up and moved to another table. On several occasions, I have told the manager of a restaurant that their music is too loud and I have walked out if they do not lower it enough.

We were invited to join a few other couples at Evans Prairie one evening but I found the Rocking Relics were playing and they were too loud. I dropped off my wife and went back home to get the ear protectors I use when I mow our lawn. Then I came back, enjoyed my dinner, and even enjoyed the music wearing my ear protectors.

My favorite Jesus quote is, "If they eye offend thee, pluck it out." In other words, if something irritates you, remove it from your life. Being retired is great.

:agree:

I want to preserve the hearing I have left. For years I played drums professionally, flew general aviation planes and shot some very loud rifles, shotguns and handguns all at some cost to my hearing. No thanks, no more.
