What can be done about the weird drivers?

Saturday a couple in a fancy cart, pulled up behind us at a stop sign, honked and started yelling, "Hey get going you *****"
Then after moving out, he roared up about one foot from our rear bumper.
Then, at the next opening for a recreation center, he sped into the open lot, roared across the lot and then at the next exit from that lot he pulled out in front of us at a very aggressive speed and came very close to causing an accident.
So, my question to the occupants of this fine Village, do you know of or care abut the wild stuff going on?
It is almost impossible to go for a nice bike ride and not get nearly swiped by some one who does not like bicycles.
On the MMP we always yield to carts and any pedestrians, we all need to use the MMP units.
State law we understand is the autos are to be 3 feet from a cart when passing,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, OK that sounds good but?
One guy at a Recreation center said he wanted to put his boot through my bike spokes, Really?
So, for those of you who care, do you have any suggestions? If you do not care, that is fine too.
How many happy hours does it take to produce a safe driver with some courtesy and common sense?

Be careful. That's about it.

They'll always be around. Any time. Any place.

YOU are right as usual............AND...

And a huge bunch more are coming. A LOT of folks who will make us crazy, and may cause harm...coming soon. THIS is no matter WHAT you drive. This is the center for terrible driving, right here in THE VILLAGES. I am looking who to blame.

Folks bring their bad habits (driving and otherwise) with them when they move here. NOT sure why they have to cop an attitude though.

A week ago at the Morse gate on 466 I'd just come through the gate heading north when a cart gunned it right in front of me...so I tooted my horn while applying my brakes. His passenger (a woman) gave me the one finger salute (her age OR I.Q.??) which I always think is real classy. Guess she wouldn't have minded being my hood ornament!

A few things to remember sadly you/I/we tend to notice the damn fools but not the vast majority that LIVE appropriately.

RE: State law and 3 feet from a golf cart when passing.
I must say, I ride a bike, drive a golf cart and drive a car.
If, I am wrong you can assume that MOST other people do not know it either. I do know that you are SUPPOSED to allow 3 feet between a car and a bicycle-FAT CHANCE. I do not believe the same is true of a golf cart. If, that is so it is impossible to do without crossing into traffic traveling in the opposite direction.

I am normally against big government but, it is clear from repeated posts things need to be improved. We could perhaps, have all the golf carts and perhaps bikes as well have a number on them as they have on the rental golf carts. Thus, a complaint such as yours would not be a fancy golf cart but GOLF CART NUMBER ///////// and it could be addressed.

Your post is a bit one sided. NO IT WAS NOT ME but, I expect there are two sides to this tale.

IF a cyclist is riding their bike just to the inside of the lane striping rather than mid-cart/bike lane or even close to the curb, is it possible to maintain that 3 foot space without one's car/SUV/truck entering the lane of on-coming traffic?

We all must practice defensive driving when behind the wheel (car or cart).

Aging brings with it for some, a decrease in judgement, medical conditions, hearing, sight + the me first outta my way folks.

All together makes the other 95% of us have to pay close attention.

Unfortunately I think the inconsiderate driving is a sign of the times....people are so self absorbed, courtesy is fading away. It is something I have noticed over the last 10-20 years as progressively getting worse. I do not know what could solve this. I just know I refuse to add to the problem and refuse to return their bad behavior with matching bad behavior. If someone is driving aggressively, my first instinct is "please go ahead of me....the farther away the better."

I used to ride a lot -- at least one century a month. Took one look at the craziness here and said no way to getting a bike again. However, if I were to ride, there isn't enough money to get me on golf cart paths. Too many cart drivers are under the illusion that only they belong on the paths and woebetide any pedestrian, bicyclist or anything else in their path. So, my suggestion is stay on the streets. Actually much safer.

Couldn't disagree more.

I've been riding in TV for 5 years and feel much safer on the MMP. I have a certain set of personal rules that I strictly abide by and I feel safe on the MMP. And most importantly...I feel almost 100% in control of my safety, unlike on the street where I'm at the mercy of every vehicle driving by me at much higher speeds.

For the record, I think you can make a case for streets being safe for group bike riders who know how to ride properly in a group. But imho, the MMP is much safer for an individual rider who takes certain precautions.

GG, it's not like you to make such a sweeping generalization.
I hope you're referring to renters who are inexperienced driving in TV; and NOT to seasonal residents.

The news source that cannot be referenced just published another bunch of pre snowbird photos of almost comically poor parking. Ineptness, inconsiderate behavior, dementia or a combination thereof probably lie at the heart of it all, driving or parking.

I wasn't even here a week & had two near misses while walking and one on my cart in a rec center parking lot. I looked down to move something that was sliding off of my seat (for a split second). I then looked up & I had to come to a screatching halt to an SUV barreling at me on my drivers side. He wasn't going slow or cautious!! I accepted blame & I waved & yelled sorry.... But.... he slowed down to lean over his wife in the passenger seat to chuckle and continue laughing at me!! Really??!! What is wrong with these sick people!! Please treat the other people on the road like its your own family. I'm a Daughter, Mother & Wife of a husband who's very glad he wasn't with me. This guy would never have gotten away with it....A conversation would've taken place for sure!! Everyone Be Careful!! Sadly, It's
only going to get worse!

Lobster lust aside, I think that snowbirds who are inexperienced are much more likely to cause havoc in the roundabouts.
Seasonal residents, for the most part, have figured out how to drive.
And those that stop to read maps in the middle of the roundabouts are probably renters here for the first time.
(I do realize that is a sweeping generalization. Many renters are stellar drivers).
I'm glad the online newspaper has an article with pictures of poor parkers BEFORE the dreaded arrival of snowbirds. :evil6:

I think there are many full time residents of TV,
that shouldn't be behind the wheel of a cart or car.
There were photos published of bad parkers in the
unmentionable news source and all were taken this summer.
So please get real and don't blame snowbirds for all the bad driving around town!
I do agree though that, the influx of snowbirds adds to the number of bad drivers already here!

I agree with PB and Fredster. It's a mathematical certainty.
Of course the droves of people about to descend on TV will increase the amount of bad drivers and bad parkers.

Here are my take....I believe that until law enforcement starts getting involved with speeding drivers, those who cut across parking lots going 30mph, those who don't stop at stop signs or yeild at yield signs, or pull over reckless drivers, the problem will only get worse. Sometimes I drive on Morse or Buena Vista doing 35-40. I don't go over 40. I have witnessed drivers go by me at 45-50 mph with a cop car in sight. He never pulled them over. So until the police start cracking down on these drivers nothing will be done. I generally try to stay off the roads. I'm happier at home knowing I'll wake up the next morning to see the sun shine.

1230 today I'm at light at 466a & Morse waiting to make left turn & head North on Morse when my light changes. I'm facing eastbound....motorcycle heading southbound on Morse approaching intersection & some dizzy broad turns left in front of him. I saw his back wheel wiggle as he locked up his brakes. She grimaced & continued on. If it would have been an accident I would have had it all on dash cam video. I was nervous as hell and wasn't even involved. Thank God he cleared her.

Just MORE people....AND THE SAME PERCENTAGE OF BAD DRIVING AMONG MORE PEOPLE.

LOTS of people ....ohhh bunchs and about 90 percent of all present during the crowded times are not believers in stop signs and red lights and NEED to pass you.(I love to exaggerate)

STAY SAFE. I WANT TO COUNT ALL OF YOUR noses come April.

I think there are various ways of looking at the driving here in TV.

For starters those of us who live here year round are used to the type of drivers here, good and bad.

For those that winter here they are used to their home town way of driving and are shocked when they get here and see how we drive and think we are just a bunch of old fuddy duddies.

Also, many winter residents are in "party mood". They get in those golf carts and become teenagers again, they forget that they are in an actual vehicle and should obey the traffic laws.

Then add in the really large number of people who should not be driving for either health or eye problems. Add in people who have never had to drive a traffic circle, or if they have it may be much bigger than ours. Add in locals who are cutting through our Village and really don't give a damn about anyone living here.

We are going to add an enormous number of people immediately after Christmas:loco: - who are hell bent on having a great winter:loco: - who have no intention of ever becoming a resident so we should all smarten up and drive accordingly if we want to see 2018. The best way to do that is to drive defensively. IMHO there is no point in b*****g about it, because it is not going to change EVER.

For years I was a winter resident on the Gulf Coast and was only there to get out of the cold, walk the beach, eat out and enjoy myself so I think I know what I am talking about.

That's outrageous. Get a picture with your cell phone, then call the Sheriff.

I drive the Morse paths a lot, and I like to drive at 16-17 mph--it's quieter and more enjoyable view-wise. If I see someone approaching from behind me, and if I see a clear view for a couple hundred feet ahead, I slow down more, hug the right shoulder, wave them to pass and wave again as the do. Mostly, they wave back.

I used to ride a motorcycle for years up north, but I decided to sell it and give up riding before we bought a place down here.
After spending time down here and seeing how people drive, I would never consider riding a motorcycle in or around TV.
