DirecTv just announced it will offer refunds to those who purchased the NFL Package this year ($40+/mo for 6 months) if they desire to get out of the contract. Big revenue stream for the NFL that will surely be taking a big hit.

I think it's a big revenue stream for DIRECTV. The NFL will still get the rights fee DIRECTV has to pay.

DirecTv what a bunch of clowns they are since they connected with AT&T. I don't pay a penny for the Football package and they make it like they are doing you a favor when they lower the price. I cancelled my FREE Subscription anyway so I'm never tempted. It's going to be rough but I feel very strongly about this and I don't care for Roger Goodell either. The NFL may still get a few dollars somehow but I know I did the correct thing for me. Superbowl Sunday is going to be different this year.

In 2014 Directv paid the NFL $12 Billion for the rights to broadcast out of market games for 8 years. The NFL is getting their money, it's Directv that will lose.

At&T purchased Directv for $48.5 Billion.

If you're not paying for the football package then you have nothing to cancel. However, for those who pay $240 or $330 and want to cancel the package, Directv is allowing you to do so.
Myself, I have Directv and NFL Sunday Ticket. I have nothing to cancel since this year they gave me NFL Sunday Ticket for free. I've been a good customer with them since 2008 with the Premier Package and have NFL Ticket since 2011, so when I called to negotiate a better price, they gave NFL Ticket to me for free, I can't complain.
