Many people have posted about roofing shingles issues after the hurricane. These people have said the warranty department has not stood behind the warranty saying it was caused by the hurricane and therefore not covered. Those shingles should be able to withstand 100mph plus winds if they were installed properly. In my humble opinion, if the home owner can show poor workmanship in the installation, the developer should pressure the contractor to make good the repairs for no charge or release the contractor from doing any future work in the villages.

That contractor could probably book himself well into the forseeable future doing repairs everywhere in Florida and then go on to Puerto Rico and the other islands.

Neighbor talked to CertainTeed the manufacturer of the shingles on many roofs. He was told the winds stated in their warranty is for gusts, not sustained and that damage caused by hurricane force winds are not covered. I don't believe that Sumter requires Miami standards so maybe someone should talk to Sumter to get the local codes and since the county does the inspection before providing occupancy permits, that might be the place to check before we hammer the developer.

This is all B.S..... My roofer did not nail the shingles down properly and then he tells me they were defective...they are not adhering to the roof properly and CertainTeed is responsible . I am following protocol but I know I'm probably going to have to get an atty. I'd really LOVE to contact the T.V. newstation and show them everything..the developer has us over a barrel and they know it!

We would only be interested in the contractors who did the lousy work, and to fix all the roofs that were incorrectly done right here in The Villages!
With all the complaints, that will keep them busy enough.
