Any regrets from anyone that they live in the Villages. I see some who come from the Northeast. How are you feeling the heat? I know how hot it gets there. When my husband and I were there a few times, we loved the idea of golf carts, the pools for adults (no children) unless you go to the family pool, the squares, and the many clubs and activities that one can join.

The heat is okay if you stay out of the sun. The current weather in the shade or if cloudy is quite tolerable. No regrets

Love it glad I made the move in 2009. No matter how hot it gets I don't have to shovel. If I want to see white I'll order a beer or go watch the surf at the Ocean. Oh yea and I can afford a GREAT life style.

We miss nothing about the northeast. Old, cold and dirty. Political sewer, otherwise a nice place for someone else to live of visit.

I have regrets. That is the reason I sold last week. A year after I bought my home I went to the Rohan dedication and heard the Village rep say " this is the last rec center we will ever build. Then the next year, Fenny popped up. Then information about the land purchase near Wildwood. Then in 2017 the deal with Leesburg for another 8000 homes. Then I saw where Morse family was selling homes in Fenny for as little as $161,000. With another 22,000 homes coming on in the next 2 years I figured unless you owned for 5 yrs or more you would always compete with the builder forever. Put the home up August 1, sold it, and now rent for 4 months a year for a lot less than owning. Owning here is not inexpensive, no matter what the powers at be tell you. Some of us aren't as rich as many folks here. I guess if you sell a home in the East for big money, prices here are reasonable, but not for a middle class guy from Ohio. No, I enjoy visiting here, but wish I had not purchased. I'd be about 10 grand ahead if I had only rented.

You LOST "10 grand" on the sale of your home here? Or in Cincinnati to come HERE? Or on renting here?
And I think your regrets are the continued building of new homes? Or the lower prices in Fenney possibly because for a time Fenney will be away from the "Mainland"?
I am confused about what caused you to regret buying here but brings you back here for a good part of the year?

There are obviously some people who are moving out, there are many resale houses for sale.
Of course lots of people are upsizing or downsizing, but remaining in The Bubble.
Fred, you have an interesting perspective, and I wish you well.
I figure if we had rented for six months for the last ten years ( in high season) we'd be in the poor house by now.
For the most part, it seems that Villagers can't stop congratulating each other for making a smart move.
We love it in The Villages.

My wife and I have zero regrets. We are originally from NJ and lived in Michigan as well. We don't miss anything about living up north. True the summers are very hot and humid, but I can go outside 365 and enjoy being outdoors. You learn to adjust your activity level, and just remember that 10-2 are usually the hottest parts of the day. The pools are quite refreshing! When the winter weathers came while we were up North, especially when it got below zero, going outside was not anywhere near the top of my list. "Snow" (and actually "work") are now 4 letter words in my vocabulary.
Truly this is a personal decision as there are people who regret moving south and being away from their immediate family. If you have grandchildren, this might be a factor in your decision as there are people who have sold their homes and returned 'home'.

Regrets, I have a few. But this Ain't one of them. The bright flame of TV'S enthusiasm flickered for a moment after the storm but were back at full blast now. I think we should regret we didn't tell the kids we were moving. Mrs. Nucky not so much!

We moved from Boston and NH. We have no regrets as such, but we miss certain things especially in Boston. Miss the theatre, the restaurants, the stores, the Museum and Art Galleries, even miss the Duck Boats! But, life moves on and we were finding it more and more difficult to drive in and out of Boston with the amount of traffic and the winters were really a problem. I think there comes a time in everyone's life when your needs change and ours did, so TV suits us just fine. Of course, the summer is hot, but the air conditioning is superb and we do not get the brown outs we had in Boston. So, in answer to your question "No Regrets", but great memories.:)

We moved to TV in March 2006 and have absolutely no regrets. Well, perhaps one. We regret not moving here first instead of another adult retirement community.
Because of personal obligations we are "Snowbirds" but have always owned instead of renting. We have found purchasing, decorating and selling four properties in TV have more than paid for our winters here. I admit owning a home here and one in Illinois can be challenging at times but we learn to deal with it.
Bottom line---I find living in a "growth community" is a much better situation than in a stagnant one. It appears that The Villages will continue to grow and progress for the foreseeable future. But to each his own.

Not with us, but the people next door are moving back to where they came from before being here a year; the wife misses their kids too much.
The only regret I have is that we didn't move here sooner. I was still working (consulting and traveling by plane every week) so I just had a longer commute to the airport. After nine years here, I pinch myself and say is it real? I too like seeing the progress. Every week there is something new - next week Walmart is opening near us. I have not missed a tennis day because of heat. I wish it were a bit warmer in January and February. Most of those who I know have moved back have done so for health reasons to be close to family.

My wife and I were born and raised in Michigan before moving to North Carolina 20 years ago. That first summer had record-breaking heat and I thought sure I was going to die from it. By the next summer, I didn't find it so bad. After that, no problems. We moved to The Villages last February as full-timers and just finished our first summer here. We didn't really find it hotter than North Carolina, just hot earlier and longer. And now that we're retired and don't have to get everything outside done on the precious few days off we had, we find it actually easier to take than North Carolina. If it's hot outside during the day in the summer months, we just find something inside to do. That can be at home (TV, reading, music, video games and let's not forget our wonderful naps!) or out in The Villages (so many clubs and classes at the recreation centers, bowling, shooting pool, going to the movies, dining out, shopping, going to the gym, etc.). If there are things that HAVE to be done outside, we just do them earlier in the morning or later in the evening. If it's too hot to go to the squares when the music starts at 5 PM, we can always wait until 7 PM, for example.
As far as regrets, sorry but I just don't have any yet. We love our house (which was built well enough to come through hurricane Irma without a scratch), we love bopping around in our golf cart, we love our neighborhood and neighbors, we love the huge variety of activities in The Villages and we love what we're finding to do outside of The Villages throughout Florida. And I have yet to even find time to take golf back up after 30+ years away from the game and take advantage of essentially free golf at the many executive courses!
But there must be SOME shortcomings, right? Well hmmm.... Costco hasn't moved here... yet! But we get down to Orlando about once a month to spend a few hours at one of the Disneys (awesome deals for annual passes for Florida residents) and stop in there and/or Trader Joes (also absent so far around The Villages) before heading home. What else? It took us a while to find a family physician but we have one now and quite like him. Ah, what else? Sorry, drawing a blank.
Good luck with your decision!
<Edit>
I just read another post who said their only regret was that they didn't move here sooner. I guess our only regret is that we couldn't move here sooner (wrapping up careers in North Carolina). But we moved here just three days after my last day of work up there!

I understood every word you said. It was clearly stated that you lost $$$ with your home sale in TV and not Cleveland.
I do sympathize with you. What works for us is I rent out my home, and only spend time here when its vacant, which is 5/6 or so months out of the year, not consecutively.
So you did the right thing for you, and I for me....

One reason I regret moving to the villages is the extreme heat in the summer.. I am now in upstate New York on vacation. The upstate area has had zero days of 90° temperatures since July 1 until present. In my opinion one of the prettiest places in the United States is the Catskill Mountain area of New York State. In the summer seldom gets above 90°,, nights are mostly in the 65 to 70° range.. The air is fresh and clean,, the amount of oxygen in the air due to all of the tree cover is extremely high and so easy to breathe. The humidity is very very low. There are so many things to do and places to go concerts, country fairs, fabulous restaurants,, playing golf in the Catskill Mountains is a pleasure beautiful courses great condition and the price is right. Don't get me wrong I still love the villages at certain times of the year. I do not spend January or February in the villages as it is pretty cold. I find myself renting in Costa Rica for those two months. The weather is fabulous the days along and if you look around there are things to do. If I had to do it all over I would definitely move further south in Florida with the weather in the winter is not as chilly. Yes I have pictures of snow on my roof in the villages. So have another glass of Kool-Aid and go out and play some golf with the conditions of the courses are pristine. No excuses, too much rain, too little rain, too much play.

I purchased our first home In Village of Charlotte 2012. Everyone was saying the same about stopping. I spent 40 years in sales. That is the normal pitch when you have great demand. As long as the Morse family can get land, water and roads and sell the homes as quickly as they do they will build.....

...I just hope TV management keeps up building enough golf courses to keep up with Winter demand.
You mean the executive golf courses, right? The Championship Courses Winter Rates go effect today. To play 18 holes will cost you $45 at any course south of 466 except Palmer, that course is $51. You can always become a Priority Member for the annual fee of $740 for a single and $925 for a couple. That would knock your green fees down to $33 except at Palmer $39.
In high season, come January 1st until the end of April green fees on those same courses will be $55 and Palmer $60. From January to April 30th you can play Palmer and any of those courses just about anytime you want, in fact Oct, Nov and Dec you can get just about anytime you want. That's one of the reasons the executives are so crowded. What my neighbor and I do, is to play 9 holes for about $22 to $27 depending on the month. We're done in 2 hours but it's the way it is.

We too are from Ohio & I agree with you exactly. My thoughts are a lot of people haven't lived here long enough to see the real Florida life or like you said Fred they're richer than some of us. We also are looking for another home in Ohio. Yea, I agree I hate the cold in the north but like a lot of people I have my reasons not to stay here. When we moved here one of the first things the sales office told us was, "If you want to sell your home here in a couple of yrs. it'll sell in a heartbeat", not true. With 20 or 30,000 homes up for sale here all the time your home isn't all that easy to sell. Other than that & not getting into a bunch more neg. comments TV isn't a bad place to live, but then again the ones that love it here, we don't know their life style where they came from maybe they lived in a rough neighborhood. I'm going to enjoy it here as long as I can. I look at TV as an extended vacation.

We are from the Northeast. I expected the Summer to be worse. I guess I just needed some extra vitamin D. Maybe next year I will feel different, but for now we love it. We absolutely have no regrets. We have been here for 6 months and I still feel like I am on vacation.

There are those who will never see reality because their rose colored glasses obscure the view. TV has gotten too big and too corporate, wish I had known what I know now before buying. And then there is the Villages Health Care System debacle.

It's terribly hot here in the summer. You could deeply regret it if you do. It's better not to come over the summer. You can't even breathe outside between 10 am and 9 pm. (P.S. My hubby told me to say that because summer used to be so quiet, peaceful, and fun, but with all the growth, it's starting to become just as busy and crowded as Jan. thru April.) :-(

So true Fred. I do understand the competing with the developer. When you see new concrete courtyards for 191K, I would think it difficult to sell a used one all things being the same. When you compare a brand new home versus an aged one, not that the aged one is bad, but I would think most people would buy the brand new home. I know people will argue the location point, bond VS no bond, added improvements. But all locations in The Villages have there benefit and are good. I think the developer is successful because they know to keep the new ones priced right under the resales.

If 7 months of temperatures in the 90s with high humidity doesn't bother you, then you'll love The Villages. It's a beautiful place with more amenities than you can imagine, friendly people (mostly), loads of activities, and lots of golf courses (if you're a golfer). If, on the other hand, you like moderate summers and cool fall nights, forget Florida--period. As one who hated winter, I moved here enthusiastically from northeast Ohio to escape the snow and ice, but after 12 years, I find myself yearning for cool autumns and white Christmases-- so much so that I spend a lot of money (airfare, hotels, meals, etc.) visiting our kids in the northeast at those times to get a little taste. That's one way to handle the yearning, but I still hate the brutal summers here. Who wants to stay indoors every day after 8:00 a.m. because of the heat? Unfortunately, we couldn't be snowbirds, or we would have opted for that.
As for the squares, in the beginning I was excited at the prospect of having fun there almost every night, but I find that for me and my neighbors who have lived here a while, the luster has worn off. Large crowds and too much drinking have driven us away. The Villages is not what it used to be when the crowds were smaller and you could dine pretty much anywhere, even during snowbird season, without crowds. But if you haven't lived here a while, you won't know the difference, so none of this might bother you. Just want to give an honest answer to your question.

If you like freezing your buttox off, stay up north. WE MOVED FROM MICHIGAN, AND I DON'T MISS IT AT ALL. I LOVE IT IN FLORIDA- THAT'S WHY THEY INVENTED AIR CONDITIONING

You are spot on regarding air conditioning. It wasn't until the early 60's until air conditioning really became affordable and available to most everybody. The population of Florida was less than 5 million in 1960. By 2000 it reached 16 million. The latest population figures show 20.61 million in 2016.
Air conditioners made much of this population increase possible.
How many would call Florida home without it?

We're all free to leave, but to say that a lot of people are moving out is a bit silly seeing as how we have been the fastest growing metropolitan area every year for the past several years.
Are you saying that no one wants to live here anymore because it's too crowded?

Winters are great.

No regrets here. I pay attention to my needs and wants, which are more than fulfilled here. I have the home I want in the area I love, so what do I care how many homes they build, how much they sell for, or all the other " wo is me" stuff. As long as you're happy, enjoy what life you have left and don't sweat the things that REALLY don't concern you. As far as home values.... Your kids will probably dump the house when you die anyway..... :)

We Still maintain a home north, so summers like many can be a get out of dodge situation. Traffic, crowds, waiting for a restaurant are irrelevant, up north, 10 miles can take me 15 minutes or an hour depending on the time of day, if we don’t make a reservation for dinner we will wait up to 2 hours.
TV isn’t any different than other places, I am pretty sure if we sell up north I will never forget how long everything took. Of course retirement means you have 24 hours a day to do what you want, no worries on trying to schedule around that 12 hour shift.

No regret. We travel and live abroad in Asia, Costa Rica for 5 years. We regret not to live here sooner. This is the Life Style I want. I have an option seat at home, or attend to zumba, yoga, line dance, golf, tennis, pickel ball.At night go to square lsten to live music, did not cost me any thing. When I get really old, can not drive the car I still can drive the golf cart to grocery, restaurant to maintain my independent.

Not being able to build the style of home I preferred on Lake Miona with a dock and such, otherwise quite content. I wish they would pick-up my storm refuse though, I am not going to break the rules and dump it by the mailbox. I also wish the roadways and cart paths were not continually wet with sprinkler water fouling my vehicles, otherwise....happy camper. They do a great job otherwise, thank you very much.

In my opinion, if a person doesn't golf, doesn't enjoy driving a golf cart along the beautiful golf cart trails, belong to some clubs, enjoy the rec centers, attend some square celebrations, look around and see all the beauty that The Villages gives to a person and more, then I guess it's not worthy for a person to live and own a home here.

The right place in California is heaven, spent most of my life there. 73-75 all year around. I also lived in Hawaii where the scenery is nice, but unless you have any amount of local blood life there is tough, and tremendously expensive. When we sold in CA and moved here we said that is it for a while. This was the first summer in 5 the temperature and humidity did not beat me up so bad. Happy! A place like this in HI or CA would be prohibitively expensive, plus property taxes are enough to scare you

We moved here from S. Fl and are quite happy. We have friends from our old neighborhood who moved to a golf community in Naples as they didn’t want to be so far from their kids. Very understandable. But they are bored there. Nothing to do but golf they say. They have one golf course, one pool & one country club. I am usually taking part in clubs/activities @ probably an average of 3 or 4 different rec centers in a week. I think there is no place that can compare to The Villages.

After six plus years... The bloom is off the rose
After ten years of frenetic activity, joining clubs, mahjongg and exercise groups,
I now find it very relaxing to sit in our birdcage and just read a book!
I found that for the first years when we were newbies,
we felt guilty unless we availed ourselves of all programs and activities.

Totally agree Bare .... and now you mention reading which brings to mind the Village LIBRARY, and what a great library it is, they can and will get you anything and everything to make it possible to enjoy sitting and reading. Just another plus to living here.

Pinellas Library is great as well.
No regrets here either and we moved from southern CA....where the weather can be so boring....nice today, nice tomorrow, etc....lol. Believe me, I’m not a fan of the heat and humidity, but you learn to live around it. In colder climates, some don’t venture out....slippery roads, dangerous weather conditions. Here at least there is good climate control everywhere and just short trips from a cooled house, to a cooled car, aren’t unbearable. Some tolerate the heat and humidity better than others...I don’t golf during the hot months, my husband does. My friends and I do other things while waiting for temps and humidity to become more comfortable for us. There is so much to do or not, you decide....so many shops and stores, considerably more than when we arrived in 2006, it’s beautiful and so many areas are accessible by golf cart....ah, love being able to us a cart to get around.
Remember it will be different here, maybe not all will be the same as where you come from....some things are easily adjusted to, other things might take a little longer. Everyplace is different from other places....but some of the differences are really, really nice....;)

The Villages isn't for everyone! Like dewison says, there are all knds here, like him, but many with regrets and have left. Like me -I'll be gone as soon a I sell my house. I hate the summers here - hot, humid - I don't like the cold either but never shovelled - paid someone to dhjo it. Its a toss up, Ill take the cold, and get months of gorgeous weather, scenery, frienfds and family the redt og the yesr. 2000 activities but how many will you use? My advice, rent here for a few week in the Summer. Try to do some activities you enjoy outside (like me - gardening) . No cultural things outside of The Villages in this area unless you drive for over an hour!
Everyone is entitled to an opinion. Hope this helps. Good luck!

I am enjoying the Villages as we travel back and forth between the northeast and down here. I do see myself eventually staying here for longer periods of time although I miss my grandchildren while being down here. Love the heat and sunshine!
