2017-18 Newcomers Guide to the Villages

This morning, along with my daily newspaper, I received a copy of "A Guide to The Villages and Surrounding Counties".

My question to management of TV is would be "who pays for this large Magazine?" Does it come out of our amenities? Or is it covered by the advertisers shown in the magazine?

Also, IMHO it does not need to go to every household, would it not be better to hand one out to each new resident of TV? If you have lived here for a year or more you really do not need the information contained in this book, you already know most of what you need to know to live here.

:confused: What does management of the Villages have to do with something inserted in your paper? I would ask my question to the "Daily Sun".
But if you really want to ask the District..... I won't ask here. I doubt very much they read this site, they have there own site with all sorts of information including how to contact them.

Like on all the previous additions of this guide it says on the cover "A Supplement to The Villages Daily Sun". I find it a great reference and keep it all year.:wave:

Just a reminder that Talk of the Villages has NO connection to The Villages, The Morse organization. It is owned by a private group.

The Daily Sun was owned by The Villages, the Morse organization and is still housed in their building. It was sold to a friend of The Villages and the Morse organization, Phillip J. Markward, and has a strong Conservative bias, just as the Orlando Sentinel and the Tampa Bay Times have a strong liberal bias. In my opinion.

I agree that the cost of the large book was paid for solely by the advertisers. AND is a waste of paper in my humble opinion. But some use it a lot.

The Daily Sun was owned by Morse (TVLSI).... and sold to a friend Phillip Markward....

That is what was recorded in the Daily Sun and/or was circulated verbally or though venues such as this forum.

While I have no dog in this fight and honestly conclude that no fight exists, unless one has been privy to the signing agreements we really do not know what the legal relationship is between Markward and TVLSI.

What we can ascertain is that the Daily Sun is pro TVLSI and has never taken a position opposite to TVLSI.

What we do know from reading the Daily Sun is that it will avoid any sort of controversy and maintains tight control of what gets printed.

Perhaps the rationale around all of this is that responsible community leaders believe these aging minds of ours are very fragile and desires to shield us from disturbing and emotional news.:D I can be a nudge sometimes :)

When I closed on my house in June 2017 I did receive a full color approximately 30 page brochure with helpful information on the basics (pools, rec. centers, maps, trash days, golf, etc.) from the Villages closing office. It was very helpful and I think I would have driven my real estate agent nuts with questions without this brochure. Perhaps the booklet in the Daily Sun has additional information???

I imagine it would be very helpful to those buyers who close with private real estate offices and not TV.

I do agree that we should "save a tree" by perhaps making this booklet available for pick up at the Daily Sun offices and not an insert in the paper.:wave:

We receive these books when we stopped at the warranty department after closings on our homes. I can tell you that they have changed greatly. Some businesses are gone new businesses are taking their place and has helpful information. I thought it was a thoughtful idea to put together for residence and a bonus for the businesses. Some smaller businesses here do not advertise or it's so small you may miss it in the paper it's nice to have one book with that much information.

Like the Yellow Pages, some useful information, but mostly large advertisements. They can get the price for the ad by showing how many copies are distributed.

This year a few clubs were contacted and BOUGHT ads.

The LifeStyle Welcome Shows have them available for newcomers.

I find it very helpful, not only to newcomers but to those who have been here awhile. I have been here over 17 years and one thing I learned its that The Villages is a dynamic community. Everything is constantly changing, evolving. For example, none of the restaurants in Spanish Springs were the same ones that were there when I moved here. They have gone through multiple owners, changed names, and even have seen more built. Lake Sumter Landing and certainly Brownwood were not even built. With the expansions of Fenny and Pine Ridge and more villages to come, this publication lets everybody know what's going on and what we can look forward to in the future. I heartily disagree with the OP that those that lived here for more than a year or two don't need the information in the book... IMOP!

Price may have gone up, but you can buy it for $5.00 at any of the Sales Offices.
