Being new in TV, and this is our first year, we have been told that the bill for our annual property tax, bond, and maint. assessment comes due in October. We have not seen or gotten yet. When and how does it come? Also how is payment made, options?
Thanks! Army Guy

It will be sent in October with discounts of November (4%), December (3%), January (2%) and February (1%). It is past due as of Apr 1 of 2010.
You can call like Bogie mentions but that is what it is.
BTW: Those dates are the last day of the month - ie Nov 30.

You will receive the bill in October, you can start paying in November and receive a 4% reduction if paid by November 30, pay by the end of December and receive 3% discount...and so on...it's all spelled out very clearly on the bill.....GN

My property assessment that I received in the mail a month or so ago did not appear to have any Homestead deductions associated with it. We became fulltime Florida residents in June of this year. Does the tax that gets paid in November reflect the 2008 taxes which would therefore not be expected to reflect Homestead deductions since we were not fulltime for all of 2008? Or, do I need to follow up with the tax assessor to make sure that the homestead credit is provided for this year? (We did register with the assessor as fulltime residents.)

The following is from the Florida Dept of Revenue web site:
"Every person who owns and resides on real property in Florida on January 1 and makes the property their permanent residence is eligible to receive a homestead exemption up to $50,000. The first $25,000 applies to all property taxes, including school district taxes. The additional exemption up to $25,000, applies to the assessed value between $50,000 and $75,000 and only to non-school taxes."

Great, thank-you all for the help. We will be watching for it. We have already gotten what I call the pre-bill of just our property tax, which surprised us cause it was less then what we had figured it would be!

Army Guy. Since you purchased a new home the first year taxes only reflect the property value. Next year the home will be included on your taxes so it will be higher and probably in line with what you expected.
PS: Thank you for your service to our country.

Did you go down and file for the homestead exemption? It is not automatic. You will need to file before March of 2010 to be eligible for the homestead exemption in 2010 and after.
