This whole situation is so sad, that being said, IMHO perhaps it should be considered "dropping" Paddock from Brownwood Square? As we all know, that was the name of the shooter. Any thoughts?

Paddock is the name for an enclosure for horses and Brownwood is in a horsey western theme.

I say no. I never once made the connection with the shooters name and I doubt few did.

I cannot tell whether this is a bait subject or not. It surely feels like it.

My opinion? No. Totally and completely unwarranted. The two have no relationship and absolutely nothing in common what so ever, except the name. Where it it stop? Sounds like? What about all the other people in the world with the same name.

The Las Vegas shooting is incredibly sad and disturbing but has nothing to do with our town square. I say leave the name alone.

I don't know what this world is coming to. Every time somebody doesn't like something because it reminds them of something else, we have to do away with it. No matter how much history it holds and has literally nothing to do with the people living in 2017. I'm speaking of course of all those statues that now need to be removed, they are historical, you can't hide our history, you can't sweep it under the carpet.

Today's post is just a lesser version of that.

My apologies for the suggestion, and that was all it was. It was not a bait question! It was something that came to mind as I was watching Dr. Phil interviewing victims in their hospital beds. How sad for these people, this incident will change their lives, and for many of them, not for the better. New Englander and Gracie girl, thank you for your opinion said in a considerate way, without ridicule.

What if his name had been crapper? Should we start using various other words for johns?

Just trying a little gallows humor.

I didn't mean to ridicule, sorry if it came off like that. It just reminded me of the situation the world is in today and it is a very sad situation that we need to do away with everything in our history because someone decides to feel it bothers them, for the most part I think they just want to make the news. Not really a reflection on you.

Erijo, I know your question was well intended but you should have known many TOTV members would attack. If you didn’t know this happens on this forum, now you know.

If the name were a fictitious name coming from the imagination of Mr. Morse, than I would agree it should be changed out of respect to all massacred. But paddock, in this instance, is about horses. Personally, I would favor keeping it as is.

I say no. A paddock is a place. There is no connection with the shooter. Further, his name will be forgotten by most in a few months, and he will be referred to as you did --- the Las Vegas shooter.

For example, it is probable that no one who reads this, other than a very serious student of firearms incidents, could tell you the name of the "Texas Tower Shooter," who killed 11 and wounded 31, after killing 5 others before going up into the tower.

It is even likely that most people don't know the location of the tower, other than the obvious, that it is in Texas.

Movie buffs might know it because of the Kurt Russell movie as well as the current flick on that incident. Kurt Russell - Rotten Tomatoes (https://www.rottentomatoes.com/celebrity/kurt_russell/) It was The Deadly Tower from 1975.

I think that you, just like most of us, are trying to make sense of this tragedy. It has broken our hearts and destroyed another bit of our sense of being safe. We are clutching at straws trying to steady ourselves against unfathomable evil.

Continue to tell us what you think. All opinions matter.

For some reason I thought of Paddock, but instead it was Paddock Mall in Ocala and would people get a negative feeling going to that mall? Probably not, and then I forgot about it.
