View Full Version : What are the greens like?
I am planning to be in TV in a couple of weeks. Would like to know what the golf course conditions are, especially the greens. Will be mostly interested in the country club courses. Are there any that have poor conditions or that should be avoided?

No problem! Glad to be of service on such a weighty matter!
Here's a schedule of OVERSEEDING.
You might want to play around it.

They are in great shape except for reseeding except they have gone to very tiny cups. Sinking a putt is next to impossible....:jester:

New to TV. Played three championship and three executive courses in August and September then had to go north. The greens were not good. I am hoping that this is how they are in the summer due to perhaps the heat or whatever. Will be back in November

Hi,
Good question, I should have been specific.
While repairing ball marks there was little to no resistance, loose and weak the dirt would just break down. I don't know what causes this but it seemed the grass roots were not deep and strong.
Also they were for the most part very, very slow.
I don't know maybe this is a seasonal thing. Maybe too much rain water...

They're still slow. I played Tierra the other day, and the grass was bristly, a little shaggy, and the greens just didn't roll well. I think with the high heat they've kept the grass long so they don't lose the greens, which is understandable. What bothers me is that we haven't had much rain lately and they're starting to lose the fairways. Tierra had numerous spots in the middle of the fairways where there wasn't any grass, just dirt and dust, or the grass was very sparse. I wouldn't play that course again for awhile. I haven't seen any fairway watering going on except at Palmer. Has anyone else seen them watering fairways?

on october 5th, and was not very impressed with the shape of the course. Nice layout though.

Played Havana on Monday, greens excellent. Played Palmer wednesday, greens excellent. Played Lopez yesterday and they were outstanding. Maybe stay away from Hacienda. Past couple times they were terrible. Overseeding being done but shouldn't affect to much. Greens are all much better than they were during the summer.

I did play Hacienda today, and the greens rolled okay, but theywere slow. I've played Mallory twice last week and they were slow as well. I will have to give Havana a try. When driving by it, though, it looked like the fairways were all burned up. Was that the case?

Fairways a little firm and fast. Tight lies. but overall I would say very good. Greens great. Yesterday greens at Lopez probably running around 10.

Played Glenview today...started on Tally which was a mistake. Rough only... fairways soaked and not mown. Made for a miserable round..... and btw.... were told of the restrictions after our money was accepted for play.

I'm relatively sure you could get back the money if you decided not to play based on that info. At least it was worth the ask.

We played Glenview (Fox Run and Stirrup Cup) and felt both courses were in excellent shape. Glenview is always one of the best kept courses here in my opinion.

I love Glenview in the winter - when all the other courses are dried riight up from lack of rain, Glenview has generally had great conditions, comparable to Palmer. But we played it this summer a couple of times, and due to the rainy summer, it was very very wet, lots of casual water, and basically very difficlt to play.
When we played Hacienda the other day we encountered the same thing as Kaydee mentioned - rough only, fairways soaked, etc. They said it was because they are overseeding the fairways. It could be they are doing the same at Glenview. This is the time of year for that maintenance procedure.
We did encounter a problem at Palmer over the summer. They had plugged the greens, and we had payed our money before we found out. We obviously didn't want to play there and pay the premium greens fees when the greens weren't pristine, so we asked for a raincheck, and they did give us one.
