We have a Samsung refrigerator french doors with freezer below.

Recently we have heard a distinct humming sound not heard before. It stops when we open the refrig.

We removed one large casserole dish and the sound disappeared. However this afternoon it started again and then stopped.

My question is, could this be a fan that is in the process of going bad?

rubicon, have had the same noise problem with our Samsung side by side...worst refrigerator I have ever owned... it has happened a few times over the last year... when the refrig. motor comes on sounds like a fan blade is hitting a wire... we shift things around and noise usually goes away...just 3 weeks ago before we left for a week it happened and wouldn't stop, I tried to call 2 different repairman and no one wants to work on them...we came back last week and its quiet again...lol

Thank you. Ours does not sound as if something is hitting a wire but just a humming noise?
