I was just reading the thread about the Village Idiot and see it was "CLOSED. Why do threads get closed and who decides to close threads? This thread didn't seem all that caustic. Just wondering why it is closed.

I suspect certain people are offended with the term Village Idiot and complained.

I think most threads get closed after six months.
The Mods seem to close threads for frequently going off topic, personal attacks, sarcasm, politically incorrect, you name it.
I don't always agree that they should be closed, but I respect the integrity of the Mods.

Threads get closed for violation of the Terms of Use.

You might want to read them at https://www.talkofthevillages.com/forums/cmps_index.php?pageid=rules

That really doesn't make sense to me.

If someone violates the Terms of Use, they should simply remove the post in violation.
I see many threads which are closed and wished they hadn't closed them because in some way, they are of interest.

Why do threads get closed is the same reason that the Fourth Estate can and will refuse to print anything they choose not to report. Its their call. It may not be right? It may be manipulation? It can be aggravating.

With TOTV I would prefer a thread to be close primarily because of the lack of interest or activity. The quality of the thread can be regulated by the mod simply deleting poster's comments

Like any issue it kicks as much as it cuts and the one thing about Political Talk is that because it is not moderated a poster can self- moderate and so the thread in a matter of speaking just dies on the vine ( is simply ignored)

That's a great answer and I thank you. You would think I was new to message forums. LOL.

It's not always easy to just remove a post. Sometimes many people have quoted that post to respond to, so all of those posts would also have to be deleted.

I know my older threads are all closed, which is OK. The sad part is Photobucket changed their policy after many years, so now all of my pictures are gone and I cannot update the thread.

So many pictures of Caly (dog) and I exploring, golf cart learning, etc...
