View Full Version : The World is Moving On Without Us

A group of 11 countries announced on Saturday that they had committed to resurrecting a sweeping multinational trade agreement, the Trans-Pacific Partnership, without the United States. A new deal, which would have to be signed and ratified by each country, would include major United States allies like Japan, Canada and Mexico. Collectively, they account for about a sixth of global trade.
The agreement will “serve as a foundation for building a broader free-trade area” across Asia, Taro Kono, Japan’s foreign minister, said in a statement.
Meanwhile, Mexico and Argentina are signing a trade deal where Mexico will buy its corn and wheat from Argentina, costing US farmers about $13 billion every year.
The decision to move ahead with the TPP agreement, minus the United States, reflects how Trump’s decision to withdraw from the deal created a vacuum other nations are now moving to fill, with or without the president

In January, the president assured Americans he’d replace the TPP with a “beautiful” alternative. It’s now mid-November and we’ve seen no such policy.

But, we do stand totally alone in regard to climate since Syria got on board. Thinking trade agreements will make that a necessity in the future.

It's ALL about money.
When the petrodollar goes away...then the game is over.
The Saudi's keep our country running...ALL the oil they pump is bought with dollars. Dollars we print out of thin air.
WHY do you think Islam has been allowed to flourish? Why do you think NOTHING was said when the 19 hijackers were from Saudi Arabia? Mecca in Saudi Arabia is like Jerusalem to Christians/Jews. What are we going to do to the "capital" of Islam...a religion of well over a billion "crazy" in their zealousness people?
The world is political. NK isn't our enemy...they're not our threat. China is...and we keep the tensions in NK going as an excuse to keep a strong military presence/nukes close to China.

So we will grow and eat our own corn instead of shipping it out of the country.
Not a BFD unless one needs anti-Trump cannon fodder.

Ethanol in gasoline will probably go to 20%...that is where the extra will go.

My bad for not researching. Thanks Tal.
Trump may not have paraphrased from the Nazi propaganda machine but he certainly does act from their playbook. Hence the link.

You can say that. Or at least the playbook of various demagogues like George Wallace, Huey Long, Joseph McCarthy, etc. Play on the fears of the masses.

We produce so much corn already that the government encourages its use in many other things (corn syrup, ethanol). And of course the government subsidizes growers..
Since 1995, 75 percent of federal subsidies have gone to 10 percent of farms, the same consolidated group of commodity crop growers who will continue to eat up a disproportionate share of the subsidy pie under the new system, too.
These payments fund a massive industrialized food system that takes its toll on our land and water, while our diets are full of all that extra corn, from our corn-fed burgers to our Halloween candy — and so are our cars.
