I heard it too. I counted 5 bangs that sounded like shots. But I have no idea what caused them.

It woke up the cat. Checked the house and looked outside for workmen or something. I have heard duck hunting shots before, but that wasn't the sound.

Well, I am shocked hunting of any kind is allowed this close to residential area. (If that is what this is.)Even shot gun pellets travel far if fired skyward. Plus I did not sign up for an outdoor shooting range so close at 7:00 AM. Plus some shots sounded like rifle shots.

Someone maybe closer to the action than I am may need to see if The Villages discloses to buyers of gun shots in the morning.

Sounds like hunting. We hear it a few times a year, usually on the weekends. Listen for it again tomorrow.

Link to hunting season dates.

You can't mix up the sound of a shotgun with a loud bang. Shotguns have a distinct sound. I rabbit & pheasant hunted for 50 yrs. I would know the difference between a shotgun, rifle or any other loud bang. CWGUY, don't be to rough on somebody that has never hunted & doesn't know the sound of guns going off!

I think it was nail gun noise but it started at 6:30 AM Lake Deaton this past Saturday. I thought I had read a noise ordnance in place for the villages which prevented even landscapers from mowing before 9:00 AM???? It woke up our entire household and started again Sunday at 7:00 AM. Wish someone would get to the bottom of it and stop it. Maybe it is only temporary???? Need some sleep here.....

sail33or
11-20-2017, 08:50 AM
Well, the noise was absolutely, 100% shotguns being fired at Lake Deaton. And they were automatic, not pumps. And there were at least 100 shots fired in all from 7:00 AM - 8:00 AM. I guess all ducks and waterfowl left the lake after that. I guess any fishermen had to watch out for flying pellets with that many shots. There had to be a ton of hunters or just a few that were really bad shots. I am still shocked hunting is allowed within feet of The Villages. (Not opposed to hunting, just not within sight of 100's of houses.)

So you want the generations of hunters, who have hunted (lawfully) on Lake Deaton, to stop now because you bought a house built near the lake? Keep in mind, the world existed in this area long before The Villages was built.

I am just telling ALL FUTURE Village home buyers that there are real bullets flying around and lots of gun sounds right in the heart of The Villages.

Wouldn't want to offend the duck hunters. Killing ducks in 2017, buying a license, plucking feathers, gutting them and cooking the taste out of them is their U.S. given right. Lots of fun. Just as our forefathers.

The shot that comes out of those shotguns you hear does not travel long distances like bullets from a rifle or handgun.

Just fyi... We had an alligator in our backyard this past summer and we contacted everyone from neighborhood watch to the local police and were advised by the police that since it was in our backyard we could do anything we wanted to kill it. When I asked about discharging a firearm they said go ahead. So...

Although Lake Miona extends into The Villages from the West almost one third of the width of The Villages, you are correct that it is not within the boundary of The Villages according to googlemaps.

There were no meat shops or grocery stores around for our forefathers so they had to go out and hunt. Today we have these shops, so why hunt then? Cuz they like killing and blood. Leave harvesting to the pros.

Yes, I do - and still question why anyone can go out and kill Bambi's mother. I lived in the North Woods for several years and saw ugly shooting incidents which led me to question the true characters of these hunters.

When they said for the meat, they were lying. If they wanted venison, the local shops had plenty of it. No, they wanted to hunt just for the thrill of tracking and shooting. It was also a time of bonding for them. During the hunting seasons, we drove around as little as possible because of the drunk hunters. After all, it was quite boring waiting, watching, and stalking, so why not get drunk?

My, my............you do paint with a broad brush.

Unlike you, I know many hunters who love venison, and who exchange recipes for ways to prepare it, most usually being some variety of chili. But, of course, those within my circle of acquaintance are mostly folks who grew up in the deep south and enjoy not only the taste of venison, but also the "thrill of tracking and shooting" game and the "time of bonding."

Like many others, I have some great memories of evenings around an open campfire in hunting camp, in conversation with good companions, and sleeping beneath the stars. (Yep, even right on the ground with the bugs and the snakes.)

My hunting associates were not drinkers, and I don't recall ever encountering any drunk deer hunters. You have probably heard this before, but "We don't care how you did it up north." :1rotfl:

Have you found venison in the "local shops" in Florida? I doubt it. Only non-native venison may be sold, and that uncooked, so it is hardly worth the trouble to import, and is not available in restaurants.

Just relax. You aren't going to change this aspect of our culture.

Well, well.........Just like Politics or Religion, there is not ever going to be a debate that magically makes one side agree with the other side.

(I started this to find out about loud bang noises. And I really am surprised hunting is possible right next to a huge residential development. I believe there should be distance restrictions but maybe Florida is behind the times.)

For the record, I am against hunting. They always use the "thinning" argument but science proves nature will limit itself.(Less food sources, lower birth rate, etc.) Cavemen could not kill very many things with spears yet nature went on. (Yea, yea don't tell me about lack of wolves, etc.)

Venison and duck taste so bad that you must hide the taste with Chili powder, sauces and lots of other techniques. But like I said, no point in debating.
