View Full Version : Had To Put My Dog To Sleep

Had to put my dog to sleep. Heartbreaking time and I hate having to make that decision. But you know when it is the right thing to do. When they aren't getting better and the prognosis is not good. It is a shame that pet ownership comes with such a negative side. We had a wonderful couple of years with her. I hope she enjoyed her time with us as much as we enjoyed our time with her. She will be sorely missed.

So sorry for your loss. Be comforted that you knew to do the right thing at the right time. It takes courage, but it's right.

It is always a very hard decision to make but when there is no quality left in your pet's life, it is the right thing to do.
I believe in this for humans, as well, but our laws do not permit this.
Please know you did do the kind thing.
You will always miss her, smile at the funny things that happened in her life with you and little-by-little as time passes, the sadness will lessen.

I am truly saddened to hear it. It is a difficult decision for pet owners to make, which I have had to make more than once. Please accept my condolences for your loss.

I wish I had words to comfort you. It is so hard to lose a furry family member.

Geo, the words that I remember a few hours after we experienced the same thing was from a fellow TOTV poster whom I've never met. "They Said My Heart Bleeds For You". So many people on the Forum would take your pain from you if they could.

We are so sorry about the loss of your beloved pet. My Heart Bleeds For You. I hope for your pain to ease quickly. Take Care. Nucky.

I'm so sorry, GeoGeo. No time is a good time to lose a beloved pet, but the holidays are especially hard. I still miss every pet we've ever had.

I love that you were able to give her some good years. Was she a rescue? How old?

Thank you, CFrance. Yes, she was a rescue. We are guessing around 9. Best dog we ever had.

Thank you for taking an older dog in and giving her so much love. You did the right thing then and the right thing now. There are no words to take away your pain right now. My sincere condolences.

Think I have cried more from my pets' passing than that of any human relative. My condolences.

All of my dogs have lasted 14 to 18 years, you know it's coming, but when it's time the reality hits you like ton of bricks. I think I would rather cut my arm off than have to take them. I hope when I pass my dogs are waiting for me in the after life. With that said I wish there was something I could say to easy your pain. They say time will heel broken heart, but IMO it's still part broken. Sorry for your lost.

My deepest condolences ..... the loss of a beloved pet family member is such a difficult pain. Making the ultimate sacrifice, thinking of their comfort, knowing how you will suffer because they are now free, is one of the hardest decisions to make. Thinking more of them than yourself is true, never ending love. I’m so sorry for your loss.

Please accept my condolences for your loss. It is always tough when our beloved pets cross the rainbow bridge. I am sure that you will reflect on all of the good times you had with her, and I bet she was one happy camper to be with you.

I'm so very sorry, I know it's heartbreaking. In time, the precious and wonderful moments you had together will overtake the heartbreak and there will only be smiles when memories of your pup come into mind.

I know it sounds silly to say, but I believe there is a "rainbow bridge", and your dog and my dogs will there all waiting for us. May we be deserving of their love. Healing takes some time, but take the time for you.

EVERYONE....I started going through and thanking each of you. But the condolences were many and I'm in the middle of several fundraising campaigns for the rescue I am a volunteer with. So I will just say a REALLY BIG THANK YOU for all the condolences and kind words. It is never easy when we have to make that decision. Thankfully I have been super busy so that keeps my mind occupied. I would suggest to anyone who has a pet pass to keep crazy busy so your mind does not have time to think about it. It is the quiet moments that get the waterworks (tears) going.

I sure appreciate everyone reaching out. Your words mean so much to me. Thank you all.

The pain, in time, becomes less. The hole left in the heart never goes away.

Busy is good.

Plus... there are two sides to letting a forum of friends know about the passing of a pet. Each note of condolence both comforts and re-freshens the loss. It depends on the person's makeup as to which one it is.

I was unable to talk about our two pet losses on the forum at the time of their deaths. I envy people like you and Nucky who can see the comfort side of the condolences.

Soldier on, in whatever way helps.

Some what related..............I had to take my daughter's dog to the ER last weekend because of Sugar-free gum.

I was concerned when we caught him eating some, so I Google'd it.

Long Story, short: Orbit, Trident and Ice Breaker is deadly for dogs. Orbit Cubes are very nasty. The Vet required us to contact the Poison Center, get a case # and give the Vet instructions.

The dog is all good.

Just a heads-up for all.
