Can anyone tell we what's up with the PAID "2018 Email Newsletter Annual Subscription". Got an email about it today, it has always been free?

Guess they’re not making enough money off ads. I think we’ll find more and more sites going this route in order to stay afloat.

We read that particular "rag" more for "entertainment" than for content. Most of it is all the negative goings on here in The Bubble...then there are those who feel the need to comment and give commentary. I wish the 'news' well but wonder if folks will pony up with the $$??!!

Assuming the referred to Email Newsletter and the current dot com news we get for free are one and the same.

Monetize the product. You will now pay $50.00 per year, less a 50per cent discount for 2017.
We will now see if the law of "diminishing returns" is still valid
Although I scan this source on most mornings, I don't think I would be willing to pay $50 to view local police blotters each morning.
All that being said , an enterprise has to pay the bills by some method to keep open.

I wonder if "like us on Facebook" will provide the same content free of charge.

I think that this isn't correct. I will ask Meta.

I get the newsletter too, and scan it briefly. I wouldn't pay 50 cents a year for it, let alone 50 dollars. Has to be some kind of mistake.

I hate that they call themselves "villages" news and post crime from other areas.

:ohdear: I know there are a lot of people without a clue but may I ask "What is wrong with knowing what is going on around us?" Or is it just the name that you want changed?

The reasons are obvious.

I'm reading it to mean that the daily email alerts are what they are charging for. I'll be happy when they stop bombarding me with emails.

Since I am not one to stick my head in the sand I want to know what goes on around me and what may affect me in some way. The Villages is not a gated community; it is not located miles from its nearest neighboring community or on a remote island. Both Villagers and nonVillagers are everpresent both in The Villages and in the surrounding communities. DUIs, felonies and assaults do occur both in and around TV.
Also many good things happen. I find the online news informative and mostly unbiased.

Obvious to whom? I personally like a global view in context.

50 dollars a year is crazy considering a yearly subscription to The Villages Daily Sun is something like 80 dollars

:agree: I'm just not sure I would pay $50/year for this particular online newspaper. Their reporting is frequently terse and sub par journalism. I wish there were some other source of outside news easily available online.

I already talked to Meta's group today. If you want to continue reading the daily emails and breaking news via email you can pay $25. Otherwise you can just go to the site and read it free of charge. So it is just to receive the email system notifications! I would pay $50 not to have any advertising on the site!
