Yes, I like it but not using it to it's full potential. Great for browning beef then slow cooking it in the same pot. Need to experiment with it more. If you like to try new methods, it's for you.

I am thinking of getting one as well. Here's a link to some recipes you can make. One that caught my eye is a rotisserie chicken in 30 minutes fall off the bone. Lots of other great recipes. From my observation you would need to brown the meat before placing it in the instapot. I had a pressure cooker for years and used it all the time until I blew the lid off and put chili all over the ceiling. This was totally my fault. The instapot looks to have more safety features than the old pressure cooker I had. My sister makes soup all the time with hers and she loves it.

I saw a piece on t.v. where they were high-lighting these. It was said it can replace 11 kitchen appliances (I doubt we've ever had THAT many at once). We've ordered one so time will tell if we like it or not. We use our slow-cooker frequently. I will probably keep that (just in case). Isn't it great we now have Pinterest and YouTube to go for ideas???

I bought one on Black Friday sales and so far it's great. Chicken alfredo in less than 10 minutes. Meatloaf and mashed potatoes! I like that I can brown or saute in it before or after cooking and don't have to mess another pan. Haven't tried the slow cooker yet.

I have several pressure cookers and use them often.
One that I have belonged to my grandmother and the instructions have a date code of 1945.

Since you are cooking under a closed cover, you need to follow recipe directions exactly. Spices for example-since the pot is closed they have more of an effect than in an opened pot where oils and flavor is lost.

It does a great job with tough meats such as corned beef or pot roast. A modern pressure cooker has several safety features that the older ones did not. For one thing the seals are made of silicon and seem to last forever. Also,
a modern STAINLESS STEEL quality pressure cooker will cost you about as much as the instant pot.

For people who have blown a pressure cooker. First of all the smallest one I have is 9 qt. The reason is-no one reads instructions-you are not supposed to fill it more than half way. So a nine quart is actually 4.5 qt usable-I expect that is also true of the instant pot.

I just got the Instant Pot Ultra model which is the newer model. It doesn't require you to set the pressure, it is automatic. It sautes, makes yogurt, cakes, acts a sous vide, and many other features. I think it is great and makes a great meal in a short time. Look for sales and make sure you compare models so you understand what each one does and does not do. There are phone apps with recipes as well as lots of online places to look for new ideas.

The beauty of the IP is you brown the meat right in the pot on the sauté mode then slow cook or pressure cook from there.

The Fagor Lux is probably the most highly rated brand name.
The 8 quart runs around $160 ish.
Think about what you are cooking because you can't fill them to the top.
If you're making a large pot roast, stew, soup or chicken, you probably would need the 8 qt.

This could be an idea for Christmas gifts in 2018. Making a list. Love my crock pot and how it smells up the house.

Does the Instant Pot have the same kind of affect?

I gave up pot of the other kind in 5th grade. Was coughing way too much in Elementary School. Did get high from MJ fumes at various concerts which I doubt happens here in the Villages. Cannot see people inhaling at an Amy Grant outdoor concert at the Polo Fields.

If you are considering the purchase of an electric pressure cooker, I would strongly suggest the Instant Pot or Fagor, as they have a stainless steel interior cooking pot.... the others (aka cheaper) are Teflon coated, and are subject to scratching and peeling.

The Fagor interiors are enamel, but they make a few different models and I don't know if that is true for all of them.
However -- you can never go wrong with stainless.

This thread is interesting to me and I was beginning to feel a sense of urgency. Then I started having flashbacks of a long ago, rather exhausting pursuit of a Cabbage Patch doll.

So I took a deep breath and ordered an Instant Pot cookbook for 12 bucks on Amazon.

Wrapping a cookbook will be easy. I will include a note to say we can go shopping after Christmas — if this thing looks like something that actually will be used.

One question: Can anyone tell me if this newfangled pot would be welcomed by someone who loves kitchen stuff but is perfectly comfortable and successful using an old-fashioned pressure cooker?

This is more than a pressure cooker. It is also a slow cooker. You can also use it as a sous vide if you get the Ultra, you can saute in it and then go directly to cooking in the same pot. You can make yogurt and breakfasts and desserts. I am making chicken marsala in mine tonight and doing the browning of the chicken in the pot before I pressure cook it. Separately making a pasta with pine nuts, feta cheese and mint, but I could make pasta in the cooker as well, just chose not too.

Making hard boiled eggs take 7 minutes, but they peel So Very EASILY! !!! Probably has something to do with the pressure/hard shell.

Takes about 90 minutes under pressure to make my own beef stock from all the steak bones that I collect in the freezer, and use that for homemade French onion soup. Chicken stock is about the same time too.

I've made several different cheesecakes and even yogurt... rice is a breeze - no watching or have it boiling over.

I was so happy with my 6qt, I got my daughter one last Christmas, and I bought myself an 8 qt on Primeday when it was on sale.

I'm getting very envious of all you people with the smaller Instant Pot. Can I cram one more small appliance into my already overpacked kitchen? I think so! Maybe it can sit in my turkey roasting pan.

For the ribs... would it work to finish them on the grill instead of under the broiler? Less mess in the oven.

That’s a good idea! I do have a larger toaster oven with broiling so I thought I’d give that a try instead of the oven, but the grill is better. Thanks.....and today, I’ve got to move stuff around to fit yet one more item in my kitchen....lolol.

Chicken............a whole frigg'n chicken. Comes out juicy. Have not played too much with sauces yet........but I plan on getting naked and crazy with chicken in 2018.

Poached Eggs............Kind'a like these with a piece of toast in a glass. Mix it up with a fork. My grandmother made these for me when I was 10.

Beef...........not the expense cut (I'm cheap). Slow cooking gives old Southern Cows new life.

Ours was on the recall list due to melting exposing bare wires.

Parental units were making ribs and it melted. At least is was on large wood cutting board.

Hmm... will have to check hat out, Asian three. I've gotten no recall notice. I bought mine from England. Maybe they're not so good at issuing recalls?

Glad to see dewilson back

I'm back!!.

Alive and well.

THANK YOU ALL.........for the Instant Pot information.

I did get a pot for my Bride.

I ended up getting the largest one............because size does matter.

The food seems healthier.

So very good to see you, Welcome home.

Where is the list. I got mine from Walmart just before Christmas. It should be on the list.

Hi all:

I got an instapot for Christmas and ended up returning it because I was nervous to use it. I have a hobby of doing sweepstakes on the internet and ended up winning another instapot. I guess I am destined to have an instapot. It's been sitting in the box staring at me for 3 weeks now and I am nervous to try it. I guess I need to dive right in but..... I am a good cook normally so I don't know why this intimidates me so much. Please tell me some things you make in your instapot to encourage me to open the box and take off the wrapper.

They make about 6 models. It was on the news about a week after ours melted. Google should give you which model it is.
