As snowbirds, leaving in June to head back north and now here to enjoy the weather and TV. But looks like we never left behind the potholes! Went back north and potholes left over from winter weather, get here and potholes everywhere, like we never left. What's going on? Why are they not repaired? We are assessed a yearly maintenance fee for repairs, etc should be no excuse for the poor roads we are experiencing.

The pot holes have been there for many months now, and the two main thoroughfares, Morse and Buena Vista are in disgraceful condition.
Since our streets are public, it is up to the county to do the repairs.
I guess the developer doesn't care that much because it doesn't put anything in his pocket, but you would think because we are the hands that feed him, he would put pressure on the county to take care of this.

there you are. I did a thread on "A Sensible Move" and some poster who was misguided thought I was talking about CDD supervisors when I was talking about the boys on [T]HE Board of Supervisors that work with the county and local towns. but before clarification for the entire group could be made a moderator closed the thread
As we grow what happens to Buena Vista and Morse, the MMP's, that's the type of conversation I was looking for but it all got turned inward.

Yes, I noticed them too! Thought I left them behind in NJ. Would be nice it they were repaired. There are also some on the cart paths south of 466a.

IMHO, it some cases it appears the repair was not done properly, and the patch failed soon after it was completed. The original 'potholes' appear to be a failure of the final coat of blacktop to properly adhere to the base coat. In almost every case there is a nice flat surface at the base of the pothole, which is the base pavement. I have never been involved in road construction, but with so many of these final coat of blacktop failures, I am GUESSING that we are going see a lot more of these as this may be an indication the top blacktop was not applied correctly.
Fortunately these are rarely deep, and generally do not cause any damage to tires or cars, but yes these are annoying and unsightly, and do not reflect well on The Villages.

The rumor mill has it that cultist snowbirds have been bringing down potholes with them and are extorting Villagers not to deploy them. Obviously, there are multiple holes in this theory. We should sink this story now, and stop those religious extremists who think they are holy-er than thou.

This is not the responsibility of the developer and our maintenance fee does not go toward the roads, our taxes do.
And your point is? Posters keep turning back to TVLSI (Developer) which is puzzling when I am talking about our elected representatives.
it appears this Developer obsession will ever end

And there I was heading south on Morse yesterday thinking how nice it was of the county to put some potholes in to remind us of the holidays back up north.

The ridiculous thing is that it is considerably cheaper to repair a pot hole as soon as it appears rather than wait for months, after which time it will be larger and its loose edges will have been spread down the road to help create more pot holes.
Just another example of officialdom kicking the can down the road.

Are you serious? Where do you see potholes? I assume there might be a few somewhere but can't remember seeing them here in TV. Your characterization of "potholes everywhere" is absurd.
In fact, one of the things that I notice when I I return from a visit up north is how nice the streets are, specifically, the lack of potholes.

I agree, the streets and cart paths up here in Nancy Lopez area are fine. Maybe Marion County uses better materials.

Take a ride southbound on Morse south of 466. One day I counted 12 within 50 yards, some fixed with a poor quality patch. Also many on 466A east bound just west of Morse.

Just where is the developer? Some have a one track mind, negative.

Not exacftly what we called potholes in Ohio, but there are lots of broken pavement areas on lots of stretches of Morse. They can certainly rattle your car around, and I think it's very reasonable to call them potholes.
You must not get out much, Doc! LOL!! :)

You call them pot holes, wow. Really looking for something to complain about travel I-95 from Delaware Line north into Pennsylvania.

Yep...I was wondering if anyone else noticed the potholes on Morse and Buena Vista...reminds me of back home East. The county does not seem to notice or knows how to patch them properly.
In addition many sidewalks (especially Pinellas Dr) show numerous chips and breaks from a poor initial install. Contractors came by to try and patch them but once again it made a bigger mess since it was not done correctly.

I personally called Sumter county about the very poor quality of the "repairs" of the concrete in Pinellas, I was told, it was to late to go back after the company that did the repairs..... can you believe that!!!!

Got you the first time. But I might gently suggest that this is a forum. People are allowed to discuss. Or be disgusted.
There are quite a few potholes in our area. And I don't get it, because there is no freezing/thawing issue here.

I have seen a few potholes while driving around TV,
but in my opinion they are really minor in size and numbers
to what is encountered up north!
I don’t see this as a huge problem, in fact as I drive around in TV and outdide the bubble,
I am am always appreciative of the generally nice road conditions because of the lack of the freeze/thawing that you mention!

You are right, definitely not the axle-breakers we had in western PA.

And of course all these posts complaining will solve the problem.
Call the county, that does require some effort, and express that complaint.

Don't know what major North-South route you use to travel, Buena Vista or Morse, but once you travel above 466A, the potholes are there!! I erred in not saying that the Developer could put pressure on the County to service those major roads. What I feel as I bounce when I use these major routes is certainly not absurd. Once exiting those two roads, and into the residences, all is fine, no absurdity there!!

I drove Morse Blvd today all the way from El Camino to the Colony Rec Center. The only place I saw any “potholes” was between Stillwater Trail and the first Odell Loop. Even then, being from Indiana, I would not call these potholes. More like the final layer of the asphalt has broken. They were maybe an inch deep. If you want potholes, go to Indiana, Ohio, or Michigan in March after a few freezes and thaws. There you will find potholes!

A sub-standard base combined with sub-standard overlay materials is a recipe for the potholes we are beginning to see. The overlay on most of the roads in The Villages are at a point of starting to break down; just look at the surfaces at night when lights are shining on the roads and look at all the ripples and ridges and you'll understand why all the roads are getting really rough.

That would explain. There must be 20 potholes on 466A between BV & Morse.

First off when these potholes or whatever you'd like to call them start you should not come in and just patch it or it will just reappear in a short while. The correct way isvvto cut it out and replace the section but that requires more time, equipment and cost so usually the patch job is done and you move on to the next one. The County saves money and the people are quiet until the next batch appear. The increase in traffic on Morse, Buenna Vista etc. Should require more frequent surface grinding and resurfacing but unless someone puts the pressure on the County don't see that happening anytime soon. Way to many road projects in the works and on the planning table. Also the increase of big vehicles on these roads isn't helping either. Hopefully these streets never get as bad as the Northeast potholes. List a few tires & rims in those suckers
