For people who have TV service from Dish Network, does your receiver box get hot enough almost to heat up coffee, even when its off? Or is this how its suppose to work?

Ours is over 100 deg F, and it's never off. We don't turn it off but it powers off after 4 hrs of inactivity which is about 4AM. And is is back on about 6. No, we don't watch that much TV but the receiver is on and set to Serius radio.

The Dish Network satellite receivers draw about 50 watts (some more, some less). They MUST have adequate ventillation or they will become as hot as you say. When placed inside a cabinet where there is no air circulation they will overheat. If they become too hot they will either burn something or fail internally. If you must hide it in a cabinet then cut large holes in the back and do not place anything on top of the satellite receiver. Be sure nothing blocks the side, top, and bottom vent holes. When it is turned off by the remote, the receiver draws somewhat less power but is not actually "off." Some people disconnect them when away for a few days.

Ours is not very hot at all, I would call it warm. Call Dish!

I just checked both boxes. The one that is the DVR is hot. The one that's set up for the cheap rooms in the house is barely warm. So in my guestimation it depends on what unit you have.

I USED DISH FOR TWO YEARS during which time I had to call almost every two or three months with problems.
Two years ago I switched to Direct and never have to call them with a problem. And during storms I lost the signal rarely. Unlike Dish.
