I know a yellow sign is an advisory sign so a yellow speed sign is advice.

So, if you are driving in the villages at the posted 30 mph and you get to a golf cart merge where this is a yellow sign that has 20 mph on it and there are no golf carts or other hazards, it is legal to continue at 30 mph, or could the deputy sheriff stop you for speeding?

As with most advisory signs, it would be safer if drivers took the advice.....and most of the time they do, the cars slow down and let the carts merge. This time of the year, when car volume increases and patience decreases it does become more dangerous so be careful out there.

The car has the right of way. That means that the golf cart need to slow down so that the car can safely pass.

In my opinion, you should slow down to 20 mph like the sign clearly says.

Thanks. I am talking about times when there are no golf carts around, nor any other hazards. I'm new to this (and the circles) so its different for me.

Just obey the signs and take the judgement out of the equation. Totally eliminates the possibility of being wrong!!

IF you obey the signs all the time...then you'll have that as a habit for when there is a cart there! I'd say just do it!

Yes, we understood you the first time. You didn't need to repeat it.

If the sign says to drive 20 mph or less, then that is what you should do.

Now that's the way to make an self-described newcomer feel really welcome.

if somebody in a car rear ends my golf cart after I have merged into the street, my lawyer will have right of way to their bank account.

Seems to me that most every one of those merges preceeds an intersection,
so maybe it is good advice to slow down a bit!

Not if you pull out in front of a car before the assigned merge portion of the cart lane, or without properly signaling.

Thanks Captain Obvious! I always merge legally and safely. 95% of the time, the rear ender pays in any traffic accident.

Sounds like someone needs to slow down in several ways.

Sorry, not Captain Obvious. Just really peeved when I see a golf cart going 20 mph pull out in front of me because they think they have the right of way to cross a solid white golf cart path line to pass a bicyclist.

I understand, this peeves me also. On the other hand are car drivers that speed up to inhibit cart drivers merging!

That happened to me last week. Golf bag fell off of a golf cart. the driver stopped to pick it up. The golf cart behind him too impatient to stop & wait for the guy to pick up his clubs; jerked out around him without looking. I had to slam on the brakes to avoid hitting him.
