Are there any locations just outside the villages that are not safe to be in? Just wondering, Some places do not look safe but I don't know if I may be overreacting. And I mean personal safety and would my car be safe if I parked and went into a store in that neighborhood in the daytime. Please be gentle, sometimes when I post I get attacked and I would prefer not to be unless you can't help yourself. When not behind the computer I am a pretty nice person.

I can't think of anyplace that one would worry about a car. What made you ask this question? There are nasty folks everywhere.

Short of that, would not be any more worried than in similar areas in the USA. But whenever you are out in a strange area, be aware of your surroundings and don't behave in a manner that puts a target on your back.

Leesburg, Walmart--southside of St.Pete, certain neighborHOODS in Orlando, same goes for HOODS in Ocala, Leesburg and Gainesville==keep your head on a swivel and carry if you can
The only situation you are guaranteed to win/survive is the one you avoid

There are some low income areas around us that may look “unsafe”to some but low income does not equate to unsafe.

I think there was a guy killed at the Spanish Springs town center last year. As I recall, he was a worker who confronted some local ruffians who had bothered a girl.

This doesn't make Spanish Springs unsafe.

Leesburg, Walmart--southside of St.Pete,...
Sounds like you've been there. I grew up on the southside of St. Pete, played Little League at Bartlett Park, went to Southside Jr. High, rode my bike all over downtown from about '60 to '66, went to many spring training games at Al Lang Field and had lots of autographs from Roger Maris to Frank Robinson. I remember pitcher Jim Kaat as a rookie came and spoke to my elementary class, biggest person I had ever seen. We use to ride our homemade soapbox derby carts down Roser Park hill (9th Ave & 6th St South) and see who could miss the palm trees and be the closest to the canal without going in, hanging one wheel off the seawall was usually the winner.

I remember very well reading years ago that predators usually attack only those who look timid while walking. So look strong and confident.

Be sure and tell that to the family of the young man who was killed there.

Why would I ever want to leave The Villages?
Because there are great attractions, diverse places to eat, historical adventures plus a lot of the towns outside hold some fun and interesting activities through out the year. I have been here just over 3 years and we have gone to Wildwood and Leesberg to shop and eat both during the day and in the evenings....no issues. A couple of our favorite places are in Bellvue...no issues. Get out and explore.

The question was "what are the un-safe areas outside the villages"
Un-safe areas of the villages were not requested.

????
Sir. Please read the low crime statistics for THIS place which is similar to the area where I came from in Ohio. How one looks at things has a lot to do with people's past experiences.
Most of us worked hard, saved, and sacrificed so we could bring our children up in the safest neighborhood with the best schools we could afford.
I think a lot of those people, law abiding and careful moved here.
That is one of the many reasons I love it here.

Unsafe is all how you view the world. I think it is unsafe every time I get on the roads here in The Villages ie...speeding, no signals, golf carts speeding, turning from the golf cart lane when making a left turn. Bad people and bad things happen to people no matter where you are in this world. Do not let fear restrict and control your life. Get out and enjoy life and the many interesting locations of this world.

Thank you all. I know its hard to pick certain places outside the villages. I just thought there may be gang areas, or high crime during the day areas. I'm more Villager, less night owl so nighttime isn't a problem. I also like to stay inside the bubble. Again, thanks.

The only thing I'll say is that I've seen the Squares get a little rougher after 9p when the nitely entertain ends and the bars pick up. More of a local crowd at certain places than Villagers.

Judged by the driving, the arrest for drunkeness, wife/husband beating, shooting up neighbors front doors, sinkholes, a third world hospital etc.you are probably safer outside TV anyway!

The bubble does not burst if you drive out, only when you try to return :pepper2: unless you don’t have a DL why would you not leave
