Getting ready to witch cell carrier at the end of Nov and coming down the last 3 weeks in Dec. Is there a cell service that does not work there or works poorly? I would hate to change only to have one that does not at TV..

It's easier to say which ones work better. We have Verizon and have not had any problems here or up by the Chicago area.
They have lots of towers.:highfive:

I have both Verizon and ATT (iPhone) in Hemmingway. Verizon has much better reception. Lots of dropped calls inside my house with ATT. Never a problem with Verizon.

Interesting. I have AT&T and my wife has Verizon and I have better coverage in the home then her. Maybe it's the phone, not the service?

We have Sprint and Nextel; both work fine for us in TV.

I have yet to be dissapointed by the signal of Tracfone. No matter where in the USA we go, it never lets me down.

Cell phone reception is much improved in The Villages. I chose Verizon because most of my friends and family have Verizon. I would suggest you choose a carrier the same way. Why not wait until you get here to switch? All carriers have a 30 day money back guarantee. I got mine at the Verizon store in Buffalo Ridge in front of the Wal-Mart on 466a. Cheryl is the manager there, she will take good care of you.

Have had most all cell phone providers and I recently (past four months) switched to Pure Talk (see their ad here in TOTV to the left of the page).
Pure Talk is a prepay provider with no contract, no taxes or fees added, they can use your cell phone number you've had from any other provider and just $10/mo. See their ad....I highly recommend them. Their customer service is most accommodating and we have used it in MA and driving on the way to FL with terrific reception all the way.
If you choose to use the same cell phone you have, just purchase their SIM card for $10 and you're in business. Don't even have to buy a new phone as they also will give you a phone as well.
Try it, you'll like it! We did.

Ny villa is in Sabal Chase, I have a friend who just bought in Hemingway and we both have AT & T - awful in the southern parts of the Villages for both of us. My significant other has Sprint/Nextel and it works fine here. Friends who have Verizon seem to have no problems in my villa either. My AT & T works fine when I'm up in the northern part of the Villages (have friends in Piedmont and mine works fine at their house).
I'm planning on switching to Verizon shortly. Does it work well in all parts of the Villages?

We recently switched to ConsumerCellular.Com from AT&T because we never used the 450 shared minutes/month and had about 300 rollover minutes expire each month. Now we share 250 minutes and it saves us about half of what we were paying, have free phones and no contract. Consumer Cellular uses the AT&T network. We also went with Comcast's Digital Telephone service and have unlimited long distance, so we no longer have to use the cell phones to call family and friends around the country. The quality of Comcast's service is great and it works from every room in our home.

Since TV is such a big place, cell phone service from one vendor in one place may be fine but in another part of the villages it won't be. I had Sprint last winter in Hemingway and was very disappointed. It was fine outside the house but continually dropped calls while inside. Since we do not have a landline, good service in the house is a top priority. I switched to Verizon and have not had a problem since.

I've had Sprint for 10 years. Moved to TV and it's service is spotty. I know you saw 2 votes on here for Sprint but for those that know me they have heard me complain about the signal in parts of TV. Even drops calls between 466A & 466 heading north on Racetrack Rd. Parts of Villages of Mallory are useless.

I have t-mobile, love it, not one dropped call anywhere in TV in 5 years...GN
I am hearing the complaints about Sprint, but I live in Sabal Chase and have had Sprint for the past 3 years that I have lived here. I have never had a dropped call from anywhere in the Villages. Perhaps it is a hardware (phone) problem. Mr. Mac9 also has Sprint and tells me that he has had no problems either.

Don't know what the problem is but we had Sprint when we moved to Hemingway. The only place you could talk, kind of, was leaning up against the screen in the lanai. However, when we would walk over to Havana, we got great reception. We switched to Verizon and again, the only place it talks now is on the lanai. The mediocre service seem to start after the trial period expired. Does anyone know where the nearest cell towers are? Maybe our little house is in a dead zone?

Carla B try this site

You may have to cut and paste it into the URL address line of your browser. It shows a map of the antenna sites in the 32162 zip code. Interesting to note is that this search page shows 95 antennas, 13 towers and no new tower applications. Many of the water towers have cell phone antennas located on them.
Just Google cell phone tower locations and there are a ton of sites that will give you the information. Only problem is that I have not found one the will give the carriers name,

T-mobile works for me both in the house and throughout TV. T-mobile service is excellent. I use my Blackberry as a modem when I'm travelling and do not have wireless access.

I have used Verizon successfully for many years. After a year of waiting for a new tower, and more hours spent with customer service than I can count, I decided to switch to AT&T. With Verizon, I live in a "known Trouble area", but with AT&T, it may still be an "unknown trouble area". Poor, spotty reception in my home, but so far, no dropped calls. ( I am a lanai or back bedroom talker too.) As I travel to the North, reception is 100% on both services. There are 3 towers within one mile of my home, but not all providers have access to all towers. I love my new phone! I just want it to work!

I also am VERY satisfied with Tracfone. The rates are also very good for the the amount of time I use it.
