He posts 10-20 minute videos on YouTube with great information on The Villages, and he’s a funny guy. We watch every one. Also, He could use our help as far as subscribers go, because YouTube has a new policy that requires a minimum of 1,000 subscribers. So watch one and you’ll be hooked, and laugh, and then hit the Subscribe button. It doesn’t cost anything.

If you give a link, it would probably entice more people to watch/join.

I love this guy! He tells it like it is. If I ever get the chance I would definitely sit down and have a cup of coffee or a beer with him - and I don’t drink beer, but rather drink wine - but for Skip I would have a beer!

This is the 2nd time that this misinformation has been posted. You DO NOT have to have 1000 subscribers to have a youtube channel.
You have to have 1000 subscribers to do mobile live streaming and you have to have a 1000 subscribers to MONETIZE your channel.
The latter is probably the reason this false information keeps being posted.

I too have pointed this out. Anyone can have a Youtube channel. BUT, if you want to make a few bucks off your channel then you must meet the 1,000 subscriber mark. ----->> Passing the YouTube 1,000 Subscriber Mark • Kevin Muldoon (https://www.kevinmuldoon.com/youtube-1000-subscriber-mark/)

Now you wouldn't think somebody in Skip's house is posting this false information? You know, to drum up support so he can make a little money on the side? And I do mean little money. I have a YT channel also. So I know how the system works. Self promotion of your YT channel is an inside joke on YT.

It's really not the views or hits that counts. It's engagement from the person watching the video. If you watch that entire commercial before the video the payout will be higher. But, not by much. Were talking pennies here. But, with enough videos out there and a good topic people are interesting interested in. You can eventually make some money.

Many posters on this board have various youtube channels. The difference being, we don't come on TOTV pushing our monetized site to skip paying for advertising here. Nor do we encourage our friends or family to do so. I would suspect that it is against the rules of this site.
Why is it that TOTV blocks out any links to the online news but they allow this?

It doesn't bother me that someone is telling us about a YT channel that is related to The Villages. It's just the misleading information about subscribers and so forth. There is enough FAKE NEWS out there already. People need to know what is real and what is not.

It doesn't bother me, either. Right up until the point that lies are being spread to drive people to the site so that he can make money.

Actually, you can make real money if your YouTube channel gets millions or billions of views. Here is a link to annual income of top 25 YouTube stars in 2013, #25 made $1 million #1 made $12 million.

I have a friend who started doing travel videos many years ago as a hobby. It's now a full time job that pays him several hundred thousand per year plus most of his travel is comped. A charmed life for sure.

I don’t know Skip Smith. But I have watched a number of TV YouTube videos, and his are not boring, that’s why I watch. He likes living in The Villages, he doesn’t run it down. He appears to be doing just fine, I don’t think he’s really trying to hit that $7.00/month plateau via YouTube to make a difference in his lifestyle.

For every person that makes 100K on Youtube there are 5,000,000 who don't make a dime. Those people are very rare. My hat is off to those who can indeed make a living off of their videos. For myself I'm comfortable with what I'm currently taking in.

Skip asked for subscribers on one of his videos. He did not come on here to do it. Someone who saw his video came on here. I see nothing wrong with his request for more subscribers, and he was upfront about the reason for it. He clearly stated that he needed 1000 subscribers for his channel to be monetized. He puts a lot of time and effort into, if he makes a couple bucks, so what??

More power to Skip and his channel. I'm glad it keeps him busy and if he can make a few bucks then great. But, one poster said if he didn't get 1,000 subscribers he would lose his channel. That is where this thing went off the rails.
