It will be my first time driving to pick up someone at Orlando International airport. Please advise the best way to pick up, where the person should meet me. The flight is 8:30 pm. Do you know how much time it usually take to drive there?

I try to avoid parking my car if possible. At Washington Dulles airport, we have a cell phone lot where people park there for a short period, waiting for cell phone call that the person is out waiting at the curve. Anyone know of such here in Orlando airport. Any advice is appreciated.

Thank you,
Ratana

There is a cell phone parking lot at the Orlando airport.
We usually sit there and have the visitor call us when they have their bag and we pick them up at the arrival area.

We usually allow a minimum of 90 minutes +.......bring a book or game to the cell phone lot.

It takes a little over an hour depending on time of day/traffic...down the turnpike....easy ride.

There is a cell phone lot at the airport. We have used it. It has a restroom and easy access onto the road into airport arrivals. As you are driving from TV to the airport, there is a sign for the cell phone lot. Take the first sign you see. Traffic from the cell phone lot to arrivals where you pick up your passenger was back-to-back slow moving at Christmastime, but when we got to arrivals I was able to walk into the baggage claim area and meet our son as he was waiting for his luggage, and get out to the car before the security people made us move on.

I have never seen traffic that heavy or slow there, so I would say your passenger should make a call to you upon arriving at the baggage claim area.

Another option may be the Villages Airport Shuttle for $40 and pick up the person at LSL.

I would drive for two or more people but one person..... $40 is cheap when you think about gas, tolls, maybe parking and your time.

It takes about 1 hour and 20 minutes to the airport. Remember it will take them a while to get from the gate they arrive in till they collect their luggage. Follow the signs to the cell phone lot. After your guest gets their luggage have them walk directly out the door where they collected their luggage. Have them call you and tell you the number of the door they are standing near. Enjoy your company.

If they only have carry on luggage, have them exit the terminal at the departure doors (up stairs, don't go down to baggage claim). At 8:30 pm, there is less traffic up there.

The cell phone lot has a bathroom, arrivals screen, and free WiFi. It’s pretty nice.

For my most recent trip (12/14/17 to 1/3/18) to the Orlando airport from the Village of Hillsborough SunPass charged me $11.26 round trip. Without a SunPass it would be a little more. SunPass is a great money saver and time saver since you don't have to stop at the toll booths. We bought ours at one of the rest stops on the turnpike, but you can get them at a lot of places like Wallgreens. It is like a thick sticker that you place on the inside of the windshield behind the rearview mirror. Ours has been through 3 cars and still works.
There are 2 cell lots at MCO, North and South. Either one is excellent and only a couple of minutes, except for the big travel holidays, from the airport pickup locations. My only other suggestion is that you have someone with you to help read the signs while you drive because it can be very confusing when you are new to the area. Good Luck.

Taking TV bus to Lake Sumter is quite easy and painless right? Have to book on-line? There is luggage to deal with.

Appreciate everyone's advice.

Went to Orlando Airport last night to pickup my wife who was arriving at 11:30 PM.

Due to nighttime construction (11 PM - 6 AM) southbound turnpike closed beyond exit 254 which is where you get off to go east to the airport. All southbound traffic must exit at 254.

Coming back, west bound B-Line expressway, FL 528, from the airport temporarily ends at exit 4 which is the normal connection to the Turnpike. Signs there direct you to follow signs to get to the Turnpike. After driving around for about 30 minutes trying to get on the northbound Turnpike we stopped the car and turned on the GPS which lead us to I-4 and directions back to our home.
However, as is many times the case with GPS' it sent us the shortest way and not the quickest way (even tho we pushed the button for quickest way) and it had us going east and way from the the Turnpike.

What is usually a 1 hour and 15 minutes drive turned into a 2 hour drive - and got us home at 3:30 AM.

(if these road closures happen to you - head north to I-4 and the Turnpike interchange. Do not go east thru downtown Orlando)

Approximately $6.00 each direction. Buy a Sunpass and create an account. Save yourself time at the toll booths and a few cents!
