Moving down to TV in Dec and have a mother at our present location that is in a nursing home, requiring full time care. She is literally 7 blocks from where we now live and am not looking froward to moving her. But it is time for our lifestyle change to TV and I need to find something down there for her if possible. The difficulty I am having is that I am not familiar enough with TV area and surrounding area. I have searched the internet for nursing homes and given my lack of geographical knowledge do not know if a home is right next door or at the other end of the state. And trying to google the location on each is a real pain. So my question is can anyone lend a hand with what is available in the area, or point me to a local source that may know? Any personal knowledge of a home would also be helpful and if you want to PM me if it is negative that would be fine and very helpful. Do not know how others feel, but I owe my mother everything, (not a mamas boy), just extremely grateful for having someone so special, that raised me and I am trying to do right by her. Thanks in advance. Probably more than you needed to know....

Does your Mom need Independent, Assisted or regular nursing home care? One assisted and nursing home care is "Springs of Lady Lake" very close to the Spanish Springs section. 452-259-0016

I visited there searching for my own Mom (who needs independent when we eventually move to TV). I was fine with the facility, but the independent apartments were tiny and I mean tiny.

There is a brand new Independent Living facility being built right off of 466, very close to the Walmart and McDonalds (close to TV, village of Bellvedere)
It is scheduled to open in July 2010. Name of the company running it is Hawthorne Retirement Group. I already have my Mom on the waiting list.

Thanks, she needs full time nursing care, so I will check the one you suggested. The new one will not work if it is just assisted living. Anyone else have info, it would greatly appreciated.

It was about8 years ago, but I needed to bring my mom down here from New York and she needed a nursing home. She was in Lake Port Square in Leesburg and for the 8 months she was there, they treated her very well.. She had suffered numerous strokes, so she could not do anything for herself. She didn't have any bed sores during that time and when I would visit her at all different times of the day, she usually had an aide with her keeping her company. I can say they treated her very well and with the utmost of respect.

Have you looked into Freedom Point. It is brand new. Very nice--and near our hospital. http://www.brookdaleliving.com/freedom-pointe-at-the-villages.aspx

We brought my wife's mom down with us.
She had a stroke in April and we had to move fast as brining her home was not going to be an option

We searched & visited many homes within 40-50 miles.

Village of Homewood on Village property is very nice but expensive and do not accept medicaid.

Within 10-15 miles . . .
Lady Lake Specialty - Lady Lake. . . . relatively large . . seemed clean but something about it bothered us. Can't really put a finger on it.

Lake Harris Health Center - Leesburg. . . again kinda large . . very clean and we would have chose it but at the time we didn't know if we'd qualify for medicaid and it was $1500 more than our next choice

Arbor Village - Wildwood - again good size - less expensive but was crowded.

Further away - 20 miles plus
We looked at homes in Bushnell, Tavares, Clermont, Eustis.
Main reason we didn't opt for any of them is the distance.

We chose Arbor Village. Price and location were main factors.
My wife visits about 5 days per week AT DIFFFERENT times during the day.

As with anyone that does a job, some CNA's and nurses are better than others. I think no matter where you choose you will need to visit often.

My wife has no regrets with her decision

If you have any questions send me an e-mail @ ajarumbo@hotmail.com

In the mean time check out this website.

It was helpful to us

I also used http://www.healthgrades.com/ for evaluation of our final two selections.

If you need help with medicaid, contact Brenda Lee @ American Senior Financials. Their information is on the following site.

Outstanding, thanks so much for the input from all. You have given me plenty to look at and as I have said I appreciate it. No reason to reinvent the wheel. Thanks again

Does your Mom need skilled nursing or just personal care? There are Care Homes in the area that care for the elderly/memory impaired/wheelchairs, etc. in residential settings. They usually serve about 6 -8 residents. Two I know of are: "Heidi's Haven" which has locatons in Leesburg and Lady Lake area and "Caine's Comfort Care" on Route 42, just east of 441. They are state inspected/regulated. My mother has been at Caine's since May and I feel she is well cared for. If I can answer any questions please call (352) 259-2746.
