We just moved to the village of Fenney 3 wks ago from PA and are looking for a casual contemporary church service. We'd like one that has a contemporary band playing current christian or secular music, not a choir singing traditional hymns. Also like to be comfortable wearing jeans and hearing a message that is relevant to today's times.

We don't mean any disrespect to traditional type of church services and what others like. Can anyone suggest some contemporary church services we might be interested in? Thanks.

St. Timothy's. Wait they don't have a band, but they have the rest. AND they have services every day of the week. See you at seven thirty A.M.?

This is the Church we told you about. We've visited there 3 times. Will be back again when back at the Villages.

Grace Tabernacle would likely be a good fit for you and it would be a very easy ride for you from Fenney.

Brenda we did attend Live Oaks yesterday but I'm not sure it's the right fit for us. Sherry and I were about the only ones wearing jeans, so we felt a little out of place. And the band didn't seem to play contemporary music. They said they were playing requests that day. Is it possible this was just a different week from the type of music they usually play? Also they had an associate pastor giving they message that day, so maybe we need to go and hear the regular pastor?

Or maybe we just come from a very casual church in PA and we're not used to a structured type of church anymore. Our church in PA doesn't even accept members, you just come as you are when you want to come. Our band in PA is contemporary instruments playing all contemporary christian and secular music that fits the message for that day. Our church is so casual they don't even pass a plate for collections, instead they just have a few collection boxes around the lobby. Heck our pastor even wears discs in his ears and has tattoos up and down his arms. I have a feeling he might freak a lot of people out if he was a pastor here in the villages..lol.

So I'm not sure we'll be able to find that kind of church here or not. But maybe we have to give Live Oaks a couple more tries. Hopefully we'll find something we like.

We miss seeing you guys. Hope you're doing well. Any idea when you'll be coming back to FL?

I wear jeans every Sunday, but I feel overdressed compared to my friends who wear shorts.

Hi John, I would give the church another try. Steve and I have enjoyed it when we have visited. As far as when we are coming back...hopefully April for Spring break! We miss you both as well.

You could give New Covenant Methodist Church at Eisenhower Rec Center a try. Even the pastor wears jeans. They recently broke ground on a new building on 44A.

Take a look at Church@The Springs - they have a website that you can 'see' what a visit looks like.

Welcome to Northlake Presbyterian 9:30 service. It will fit your bill. Wonderful contemporary music with a band. Even tables where you can sit with a cup of coffee. Our pastors are fantastic also. We are located behind Home Depot on 441. Definitely relevant sermons.

New Covenant United Methodist also has a Saturday night and early Sunday morning contemporary service at its campus off 466 behind Publix. I'm not one for contemporary services myself, but we do get a good turnout for them.

An addendum to LIVE OAKS is that it's grown VERY quickly since being in their new building! Many of those who made the one person feel "over dressed" may have been new as well or visiting. If you become "regular" you will see all manner of clothing from shorts to suits (guys) and women the same in their way of being casual to dressy. The music will be blended there without a lot of "glitz". I'd call it more contemporary as it's not with hymns with hymnals and a choir with robes.

That would be in the two a.m. services. For further casual-ness come in your golf cart on Sunday evenings at 4:30 for the outside service. You may either sit in it OR bring a chair.

My church dates back, way back and has three locations here in The Villages..;)

My God is for everyone and can be found in all places of worship. :)

Praying the OP finds a comfortable fit. We all love our worship communities. Long may they live.

It sounds like Church at The Springs is what you are looking for. They have three campuses, but none that are really that close to Fenney. Contemporary band and very casual dress.

The main campus is in Ocala.

Thanks everyone for all your suggestions. Like I said in my original post I wasn't trying to disrespect anyone's opinion of their church, just trying to find a fit for us.

We've been checking out the online messages and web sites for everyone's suggestions and I think we'll give Church at the Springs a try this week. Really liked how their messages seemed to be centered around today's living.

Please let us know how you liked it. I am a dyed-in-the-wool Presbyterian of the traditional sort, but I am fascinated and like to hear about contemporary services and the people who like them. Also, thanks for describing yourself and what you are comfortable with. Good luck with finding a church that fits your needs. I wish you well.

Ok, it’s not too close to Fenney....but I love my church, The Garden Worship Center. Pastor Norman is the best...knowledgeable, funny, and entertaining. (He wears jeans every Sunday). Great music....wonderful, caring church family...very welcoming. There are 3 services on Sunday...9:00, 11:00, 5:30.
Anyone who doesn’t have a church home come and give us a visit.

The Villages community is certainly blessed to have so many different church options all around it - and I mean good options. I currently live right outside of a large metro area and do not feel I have as many good options as you do down there.

ITango, I wish you all the best in finding a church home that is just right for you.

I also put in a vote on Live Oaks Community Church behind Walmart on 466. They even have a JumbleTron and a service at 4:30 PM that you can watch from your golf cart. Their music minister worked for Franklin Graham and is immensely talented. This church started 6 years ago with 4 people now it is up to around 750. They must be doing something right.

New Covenant United Methodist Summerhill campus has a contemporary service @ 5:00 on Saturday. Come as you are shorts, jeans, slacks to any of the services. Pastor Herald Hendren sermons are most relevant and biblical and I’ve attended several Churches in several States since I was a small child. Three blended worship services on Sunday. 7:45, 9:15 and 10:45.

Another New Covenant campus (Lake Deacon) is currently under construction on 44A to better serve the southern Villages. They currently meet @ Eisenhower Recreation center near Brownwood. 8:30, 9:45 & 11:00 am.

First Presbyterian Church of Leesburg has a blended worship service with fantastic music. Traditional choir and Praise choir are backed up by several retired professional musicians. I don't see many jeans or tatoos but we are a friendly congregation and our pastor is so good he gets applauded at the end of his sermon.

This month (Feb 2018) our sermon series is "The Gospel on Broadway". The Feb 4 theme was "The Masks We Wear" with music from the Phantom of the Opera. The organist/pianist and great solos were all spot on.

The next three Sunday's themes are "The Father Lives in You" with music from Lion King, "The Family of God" with music from Fiddler on the Roof, and "Saved for God" with music from Les Miserables.

We shopped around for a church for almost a year before we found First Pres of Leesburg. The first service we attended confirmed that we had found a new church home. Go east on 44, just 8 minutes from Rohan. 200 S Lone Oak Rd. Good luck in your search.

No wonder the Christian Church is dying on its feet.
When Bands, Jeans and non biblical messages etc. become a priority!
Sounds more like a night on the square to me.

I disagree. I think it is wonderful for people to be so enthusiastic about their churches. Does not matter how the message is delivered as long as their is an audience for it.
