View Full Version : Southern Oaks-Fenney Lack Recreation Buildings?

Cannot believe it's just 11 months since Fenney opened! Wow, the building pace is amazing and people ARE moving in! I'm loving the progress, can't wait to see what's coming next... As we're now looking to purchase a second home in SO, I gotta ask: its been reported that TV club numbers have jumped some 28% over the past few years, where are the many thousands of new folks going to meet for club meetings, card parties, dances, theatre, events etc. in their new "home-villages" area in Southern Oaks-Fenney? The Fenny Sales Center is rather short on meeting rooms compared to other regional recreation centers? Is the plan that we drive our cars (not carts) back north? To Rohan? Eisenhower? I do not want to be one of little faith, but Blue Heron and the other new "recreation" areas do not offer "meeting space"... Does anyone have any ideas/leads on how the indoor meeting space needs are to be handled for folks south of 44? And is more executive golf on the way?

ANYONE who tells you what is planned here in The Villages is only guessing unless they are part of the builders inner circle...and some CLAIM they are but what you will get is speculation and rumors.

Having said that, I see no reason why recreation centers will not be added as in the past and golf courses too.

More of EVERYTHING is on the way. For example, a regional rec center will be built in the northwest quadrant where CR468 crosses the turnpike. Mass grading has already begun, so it will be open ... soon

True, it is underway and there are more in the plans. The sales office in the Fenney recreation center is temporary and that will open up more space in there when that time comes. Don't forget also that quite a large section of Southern Oaks will be a short golf cart ride to Rohan and the areas being built north of 468 east of the turnpike and south of 44 will have easy access to Eisenhower via Buena Vista. They know what they're doing down here. It's fun watching it all happen, except for the dust.

We are snowbirds and renting for 2 months. We’re in the Calumet area of TV, we’ve heard so much about Fenny, so we finally took a drive there at some point we’ll buy a home in TV. I don’t understand what the attraction is of living in Fenny it’s a real negative when you have to cross the Turnpike to get there, it’s almost like it’s not really part of TV. It was a 22 mile drive to get there from where we are renting. Would someone elighten me what the attraction of Fenny? I’m also under the impression that there’s a prison not too far away from Fenny?

There are lots of nice people who call Fenney home for the same reason that others have decided to move here. In time, probably about three years, the area between Fenney and the existing Villages north of there will be filled in, and people will live close to Fenny and far from it, just as people live close to Calumet and far from it now. Just about everyone likes their Village a lot here. Fenny has new homes and they are in a lovely area.

Some realtors are not happy about Fenney because they aren't allowed to sell new homes. New homes can only be sold by The Villages in house agents.

I don't sell Real Estate. I am a happy Villager.

You must have missed last Fridays Daily Sun. Here is a link you might find interesting. BTW if in the future you did not live where you are renting what does the 22 miles have to do with it?

As soon as the bridges and tunnels are completed, Villages to the south of Rt 44 will “feel” more like the rest of The Villages. The Villages is the best planned retirement community in the U.S. IMHO.

Thanks so much for the link, Bogie. I've been wanting more comprehensive info on what is going on down that way. Being all in one package so to speak, this really fits the bill. :BigApplause:

Do those who knowingly chose to buy and live in Fenney have the "disconnected"?

I would think not as it surely was a major input in their decision making.

The disconnectedness (or not) is point for discussion for many unfamiliar with the evolution of TV.

Part of the attraction is the prison and it's famous residents, no worry there. By the time you come back you won't have to cross the turnpike to get here, Fenney is just about built out and there will be plenty of Villages on either side of the Turnpike, take your pick, east or west, there will be golf cart access on both sides along with Buena Vista coming down. If you rent further south next time you won't be 22 miles away, you can be as near as just 4 miles away and then you can get here in just a few minutes. There are plenty of villages to choose from and it all depends on what you want, new homes are scarce up north although there are some being built, used homes are scarce down here although there are a few owners that are already building their second homes down here and selling their first. There is something for everyone in TV and if south of 44 isn't for you, that's all well and good, somebody has to buy the re-sales up north and I'm sure there are plenty of people that will do just that. Good luck on your future decisions.

We moved here in 2014, south of 466A in Hillsborough. People kept asking why we bought so far south. For us, it felt more open, had a different vibe and provided the type of neighborhood we were looking for. No mistake on our part, it has met all our needs and now, it seems, we may be in the middle of The Villages.....who knew? A few families that moved here when we did have sold their homes and have bought in Fenney? Why?.... different style homes, different and new amenities.....different reasons but makes their life happier. With all the upgrades, commercial growth that will show up, eventually north of 466 may not seem to belong in The Villages, might be referred to as the old section which of course will only be in the eyes of the buyer. Times are fun and exciting these days, it's great to live in TV

Like you just mentioned, it almost does not feel like the Villages. That is exactly why people like it. It's away from all the craziness, but yet still the Villages.

Read JoMar's post above.

Our neighbors just sold their home and bought in Fenney for all of those reasons.

I'll bet Harold may be stirring up a whirlpool in the fountain over that one. FYI The Developers live north of 466.

Thank you for the link to what was in the newspaper last Friday. Ah, I should have written we have strong ties to Ocala with some family and friends. Being in the Calumet area where we are renting provides easier access to Sr 42 then 484 to Ocala’s Oak Run.

P.S. Since I’m from the greater Boston area, I feel a lot better knowing we’d be closer to Whitey while he’s in prison LOL! All kidding aside thank you everyone for your input, it’s appreciated.

The craziness of which you speak occur in the “common” areas. Once I enter my neighborhood and up my driveway the “craziness” doesn’t exist. This applies to any neighborhood no matter how close or far away from the craziness it is. There is no logic in the getting away from the craziness.

Right, the Morses are moving their entire compound plus the Polo Fields down south so they will still 'belong in The Villages" They will also jack up the Savannah and the Sharon and trailer those down as well.

I did miss this! Thanks BogieShooter. WOW! Can we ask for anything more? This is MORE! The planners sat down and said, "How do we make the most of this opportunity?" THIS IS THE ANSWER! Soooo, impressive, for everyone.

I think you mistaken about the Polo Fields, they are actually in the process of building a new set of pole barns adjacent to the fields. I doubt they'd spend money on the renovation and additions if they were just going to move the fields. The developer is building new offices in Brownwood across from McAllisters, that appears to be a business decision to locate their offices nearer the area where they'll be working for the next 10 to 20 years.

Thank you for clarifying this. Mark Morse just built himself a new home with a gate just across the street from our Village on 466. I was pretty sure they aren't moving the family compound. It is really big in there.

While I see new construction going on in the compound I missed the announcement that Mark was building himself a new home. Any place I can view that announcement ? Any description of the domicile ? How many homes are back in there ? Do all the family members live in there ? Mark, Tracy, Jennifer, their children, grandchildren, inlaws ?

Go to sumterpa.com and type in a name.

We watched it go up. Very nice house. You can see it from 466. Lotsa trees planted. View will be obscured when they grow bigger.

Several weeks ago, I drove down to Fenney to use the put and play with friends and parked along the road in front as did everyone else putting that day. Yesterday, I drove past to notice a Wildwood police car parked behind the one empty car parked alongside that road.

I assume the police decided to alert motorists that parking in the golf cart lane is not to be an accepted practice in Fenney from now on. All other cars were parking on a side street that tees into the main road in question.

There were a lot of cars parked in this construction area with no golf carts in the golf cart parking area. That will change in the future but cars will still be used by many. So, be careful where you park when using this fun Village facility.

The lack of championship golf would be a deal breaker for me. Although the golf will probably eventually come, at my age the best remaining years are now, and I want to enjoy the things I like to do as much as possible before the unavoidable physical decline eventually comes. Not that it hasn't already started happening.

The release of Southern Oaks "goodies" is nothing less than spectacular... True, our collective "window-of-abilty" is the here and now (where I am now in life/and what I have now may be the best years I have)... However, if we look at how quickly Fenney has advanced in the past year, we might be able to gauge the speed-of-development (for at least the short-term) that allows even those of us here to invest in the new VOSO areas. Fenney opened for sales last March?, and within a year, over 1,000 new residents have moved in... and the house-building/amenity expansion has pushed forward at an incredible pace. And that growth must also include the magnificent job accomplished filling out the rest of Pine Hills/Pine Ridge/Osceola Hills build-out. If we judge the pace of growth from March 2017 to March 2018, allowing for the start-up and customer-curve (getting used to/accepting the idea of a Fenney that stands apart from TV, at the moment), knowing that EVERYTHING new north of 44 is gone, we might project, with some assurance, that a year from now, the "Fenney" bubble might be built to include areas West of the Red Fox Golf Course all the way East to 501... In March 2019, the Fenney-Southern Oaks area may report as many as 5,000 residents... and that is just the beginning of the VOSO tsunami. The first phase (initial Fenney build) required a hardy-clan of folks willing to be "the first"... the next wave of VOSO residents will be the "show-me" sort who will BUY BUY BUY because they can see the land's beauties and possibilities for themselves. I, for one, am carefully pouring over the available maps (and information) waiting to stake my claim on "my perfect lot" for my "perfect home." To me, the BEST is yet to come!
NOTE: GG DISCLAIMER (nod to the amazing Gracie Girl), I am not a realtor of any sort, I am not a member of the Developer's Family, I am not associated with any sales-development-management-financial entity of TV, and I am NOT, of course, privy to ANY circle of knowledgable TV planners... I am just a TVer like all the rest of us; having fun on TOTV: dreaming about the future. Personal Motto:"It's More Fun, To Have Fun."
